I don't know however there's been plenty of examples around the world of terrorist attackers wrecking havoc in the name of Islam. Unfortunately if you criticise Islam you are much more likely to get attacked. Look what happened to Salmon Rushdie.

Can't say Australians are particulary worried about a Jain or Buddhist terrorist attack.

"The individual is a white Australian male who was 28 years old in March 2019. He displayed racist behaviour from a young age. His life experiences appear to have fuelled resentment and he became radicalised, forming extreme right-wing views about people he considered a threat. Eventually, he mobilised to violence.

The individual arrived in New Zealand on 17 August 2017. As an Australian, he was entitled to live in New Zealand. Within a few days of arrival, he moved to Dunedin and from this time, his life was largely devoted to planning and preparing for the terrorist attack. We looked at his use of online platforms before and during the terrorist attack. We also examined how the individual obtained a firearms licence and how he was then legally able to acquire firearms and ammunition."

51 Muslims murdered, 40 injured.

I thought we were talking about the Sydney attack? Of course that Aussie guy who murdered 51 Muslims was a psycho.

If you're into terrorist competitions then here's the top 11 between 1970 and 2024.

8 of them are Islamist.

Interesting, I've just started researching this topic more thanks to this thread.

Jihadists killed 98 percent, or 3,612 of the 3,676 of the terror victims counted in the 2022 Global Terrorism Index.

www.visionofhumanity.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/GTI-2022-web-04112022.pdf

Having said all that, domestic violence is a greater risk to Australians than terrorism by a long way.

There doesn't seem to be much difference between the two Sydney violent nutbags, The 16yo apparently ranted political memes, so that's why his crime is terrorism.

I understand a bizarre riot happened outside the church after the attack, and now the church membership is fractured with a number of their members seeking revenge.

I couldn't help but see the parallels between events on a micro level and what's happening in Israel/Gaza. If the radical sections of this church were to go out and seek revenge by maybe burning down a few of the other teams houses and maybe kill a handful of their family members, it would be considered unacceptable.

The media don't talk about suicide, so maybe we/they need to be more careful about labeling these lone wolf type crimes. Labelling a crime as terrorism, has the potential to inspire others and incite some to seek revenge. I'd be happier if they just said they had mental health issues and chemically castrate them, to calm them down.

It pi55es me off that this crap is seeping into Australia.

Oh I see, you are talking about the Bondi Junction stabbings where a devout Christian killed 5 and injured a dozen others.

He ended up being a devout Christian did he? Haven't heard that in the media yet.

Shame he forgot about commandment 6.

Technically he ranted religious memes not political?

For sure, that's a good analogy.

Don't think chemical castration will erase a persons warped ideology. Only lifting them out of ignorance will.

Yeah, but your puppy doesn't hang out in weird Internet forums or read religious texts.

Can't be fagged watching the news, but the 16yo Church attack, labled as terrorism.

Can some terrorism expert in the Seabreeze Brains Trust enlight me. WTF happened?

I know a couple of people got stabbed by the duck, and the church, where it happend has members from some sort of minority Iraq group who left there because of persecution.

But what's with the first responders getting attacked, cops being stabbed, police cars getting trashed and talk of revenge from some sections of the church on some other group?

"Definition of terrorism in Australian law

Terrorism in Commonwealth law is defined as an act or threat that is intended to:

advance a political, ideological or religious cause; and coerce or intimidate an Australian or foreign government or the public (or section of the public ), including foreign public.

The conduct falls within the definition if it:
causes serious physical harm to a person or serious damage to property; causes death or endangers a persons life; creates a serious risk to the health and safety to the public (or section of the public), or seriously interferes, disrupts or destroys: an electronic information, telecommunications or financial system; or

an electronic system used for the delivery of essential government services, used for or by an essential public utility, or transport system.

I guess by that definition, one could argue that this country was founded on terrorism. Any wonder it's present.

So I'm assuming the 16yo was part of some other group, opposed to these Christians going back to the old country. Has the group been named? And why and who attacked the first responders?

Yeah, I have heard mention of it, but it seems to be vacant from the regular free news as far as I can tell.

I was just giving you a hint as to what to search for incase you had not bothered trying.

I have a workmate many years ago that was in that community and I was a bit uncertain about it all. They definitely got the short end of the stick back home, but I think they brought some problems with them, or maybe their ex-country men did. My impression means nothing though and I could have been reading it all wrong.

There's still something that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

The 16yo was restrained, by church goers after the attack. The 16yo must have been part of some group opposed to church, to be charged with terrorism.

It doesn't make sense that this church group attacked the police and ambulance officers, as it was their own members holding the boy and called police.

As a layperson, it sounds as though, that members of the boys group came, or were there, and were inciting violence. Did they attack first responders? That would make more sense to me as a layperson.

Has Crackandtalk already answered this? If so, I cannot read it. In case not, one of the articles I read suggested that the crowd attacked the first responders because the 16yo was being held and kept from them. I can see how this would happen.

Some of these people have bought their way of dealing with problems with them, and like lots of migrants they have settled in the same area, so it probably makes it worse.

You see. You see. You moan and bitch and get all huffy, but when the **** hits the fan you always come running back to the same place.

Has anyone actually been charged with terrorism ?

Is the only real reference that the police "are investigating the incident as terrorist related" ?

No conclusion on anything, but maybe Ch 7 put the rest of the story together for everybody.
