So you can edit your post well done. Obviously did not enjoy school and believe teachers are bludgers. As I said before you are welcome to come and show us how it should be done. 32 students in a small room with ea's for the diagnosed SAER kids. I loved school, don't know why you are making up storys that I didn't ?? We had some great teachers that loved what they did and the challengers that came with it. Some use to go surfing with us after school and weekends, were great teachers that we looked up to.
They also weren't shy about saying they loved all the 2 week holidays every few months and the 8 weeks off at xmas. That dosent mean they are bludgers like you say, just meant they knew they were on a good wicket and loved what they did.
You have chosen to become a teacher, that was your dream, you knew what it involved.
Its like choosing to become a policeman then complaining of having to deal with criminals. lol
If its too tough for you and you don't like it (which you obviously don't), stop doing it. But you are lucky to have work at all atm so make the most of it.

What a whinge fest. If you have lost your job come join the party as a teacher. Its rad fun, and Im sure you will find it a piece of piss. Heaps of money and holidays too, I love it and yes I get plenty of water time, and a bit of snow time when i take the snowboarding team to the mountain.

I'm a teacher. Such disrespect by some toward our profession. So easy to pick those who are teachers and understand the situation. As said, the main problem work load wise is teacher will not be able to provide face to face education, an online program, and make work packages for those at home without internet. That's the workload problem. Health wise, teachers have no PPE and are exposed by direct contact to huge numbers of people. I find it hard to take the safety measures seriously outside of work because... it would be like sending a Russian submariner into the reactor then when they get home lecturing them about standing too close to the microwave. We're at huge risk - we're totally unprotected.

I won't dispute that teachers have a tough job. But so do many other people, except those that have no job at all of course.

The PM and Chief Medical Officer have clearly stated that teachers are at very little risk of catching COVID-19 from kids. They have even gone as far as saying there is more risk in the staffroom. This is not a radical view and the facts are hard to dispute with less than 2% of all in Australian cases presenting in the under 20 age group. And the majority of that 2% had little to no symptoms and were kids of adults who got it.

Given this they are in no different risk profile than your local supermarket workers and a hell of a lot better off than medical and emergency response workers. Kids should be at school and teachers should just get on with it. I am sick of governments being run by unions.

Makes sense. Sort of wondering why they virus will weaken as it goes on. Maybe the weaker mutation doesn't attract attention so has more opportunity to spread. But those it spreads to still develop immunity to the stronger strain which then fades away.

I'm thinking one by one nations will tire of this social distancing, follow Sweden's lead, and leaves us oldies to take our chances. Fair enough.

This virus is hard on anyone with a mix of age and hypertension, heart disease, cancer or diabetes. That right there is 80% of mortality. This virus may well drive some change in the way people view thier own health and that old fashioned good eating and exercise to combat issues beats reliance on drugs.

I don't think its a matter of older teachers being pushed aside, but maybe more of an increased focus on protection. As mentioned they are more at risk when mixing with adults. It unlikely to be the kids that give it to them, old mate down the RSL or Karen from Bingo will be the culpret.

I do feel for those in the vulnerable demographic, but they are going to have to learn to manage the risks of this just like all the other risks they currently have.

I am only guessing here but I suspect you are right and that as the virus goes through exponential life cycles the mutations making it less dangerous replicate just as well as the more dangerous version. Theoretically a less dangerous virus will spread and multiply more readily than a dangerous one as less people care what it is doing.

Well there you go .Our esteemed premier admits it all about herself. Today she advised she is not opening schools 100% yet because if there is an outbreak she and the minister for education will get the blame .
Its about time we got rid of all women in power as their first priority is themselves ,

Usual ignorant comment with no knowledge of how a school works. So how do we know who will turn up everyday?? We are told we have to provide face to face so we have to staff every class even if less than 50% turn up. Then we have to provide online education and hard copy. So who do I send home and say you do not have a job?? Oh but 70% turned up the next day. Welcome to come a do work experience at my school of 1700 kids and see how easy we have it.

Typical work day for my wife.....

Weekdays: At school from 7:30am to 5:00pm, with 20 minutes lunch break to herself 2 days a week. Work from 8pm to 10pm each night.
Weekends: Around 3-4 hours each on Sat and Sun.
So yep, a 60+ hour week easily.

School holidays: Minimum 4 hours work each day.

It's not the easy job people think!

It wasn't until my kids started school that I realised how hard the teachers work. Similar hours to your wife and they are all obliged to attend the frequent school presentations, plays, social occasions, sports comps etc which will often go on till 9, 10pm at night and at weekends. Then there are the multiple after hours emails they have to attend to.... I'm sure there are teachers that are bolting on the door at 3.29pm, but I can't imagine a school hanging on to them for long.

Even if they're out by a factor of 10 and as many as 26 million have had it and are immune. That's 7.8 billion - 26 million = 7.8 billion of us hanging out for a vaccine. And 1/4 of Australia's chooks are flat out producing eggs for the flu vaccine that only a percentage of us bother getting. We need more chooks.

Does that mean Im ok to cavort around whoopee . My immune attacked my arteries in 2017 ,lost sight in right eye etc for a while, and I was put on mega doses of prednisone to suppress my immune to zero . Had to take 10 other tabs a day to offset side effects As of last year Im off the prednisone and on methotrexate ,another immune suppressing drug.

Firstly, I have a huge respect for teachers with having to deal with the all that is expected of them today as well dealing with parents. But back on topic now, yesterday the teachers union said that 90% of it's members did not think that social distancing was possible in a classroom situation. In WA it looks like Catholic and other private schools will only open for years 11 and 12 students in term 2. Public schools will open for all years but it's not mandatory.

Teachers are expected to teach face to face for those that attend school and online for those who stay at home. I'm not sure how they are going to manage that. School policy seems to be changing almost on a daily basis so more fine tuning might yet happen.

Both my children before the school holidays had to sit within virtual classrooms the entire school day. Teachers that I know have all said it's far more work to operate these virtual classrooms on every measure and would rather be at school any day of the week.
The edict to maintain a curriculum and testing within the classroom plus individual contact to those not there is almost impossible to realistically administer.

The same ignorance I have read on here is the same ignorance applied by the pencil pushing administration viruses (in that they live on the host and produce nothing of value and they are increasing like a the covid virus) and indeed the politicians who ONLY make decisions on the popular consensus.


I suppose teachers are an easy target as from those that I know are very honest caring people who will run in front of a bus for their students. And children don't make their own decisions.

That article quoting Peter Frazer touches on that.

Not sure exactly what that rant is about? That teachers have a hard job? OK I've never done it but believe you. Ive also done some pretty tough work gigs in my life too. So what?

However the established medical advice is that those under 20 are not really a factor in this pendemic. They have a very low chance of contracting it, and if they do somehow get it, they don't seem to be much of a factor in spreading it. Even established studies on other Corona Viruses that do effect younger people say that closing schools make little difference. In this case it's miniscule.

Australia's Chief Medical Officer has clearly stated all these facts and that in this case, teachers are at a low risk in a classroom environment and social distancing at schools is not necessary due to that low risk. I will assume you are including him in your all encompasing "moronic" labelling.

All up the official medical advice for Australia is that there is no more risk for teachers than anyone else working outside the home right now and you dont hear bleating and threatened strike action from anyone else. They just get on with it.

My kids are also at a private school, and thankfully that school has chosen to listen to the Chief Medical Officer, told the QLD Gov to get nicked with thier pandering to militent self serving unions and said that any kid who wants to come to school can.

Fair enough. This is the crap still going on in Queensland though. The unions are plainly better equipped to assess the health of kids and teachers than the medical experts.
