Not much except publicly condemn them. The biggest mistake muslims in the past made was to be scared to publicly condemn this behaviour. Fortunately this has changed as we've seen from events in recent years.
Same as the paedophile priests. The worst thing the catholic church tried to do was hiding it because they effectively looked like they condoned the behaviour and in doing so, they allowed it to continue.
No religion is innocent, every religion has blood on their hands at some point in history, as do the atheists who have also been guilty of some of the biggest atrocities in history, so its not specific to religion at all. In some cases, its as simple as there being bad people in the world.
The other reality, is whether its race or religion, it won't end until we teach our children not to hate. There are many people living in Aus who hate other nations when they were born in Australia. That's their parents legacy that has been passed down and there is no excuse for that.
