So is it now OK for us to talk about the rampant crime committed by a certain segment, who obviously need help and what we are doing as a society is not helping? What is also horrific is somebody will walk up to a bloke doing nothing and smash his face in for a cigarette or $10, and then not care they are on CCTV stealing fuel in a stolen car. The interesting part is not caring about the CCTV - no fear of being caught at all.

Well Loggy its nice to see you agree now we are allowed to talk about certain groups and call a spade a spade. That is the way forward.

Wayyyy back here there was a thread about Aboriginal offending and anyone who even mentioned it was a problem (high crime in that group) was immediately called a racist or bigot.
Of course we're all coming from the perspective of trying to fix the problem / help / prevention etc. But to do so, one has to acknowledge the problem. 13x higher incarceration rate does not show Australia is racist, it shows we have a crime problem within a group.

Then, that's why many say changing the date for Australia Day won't do anything as its a feel-good move that won't actually change the disadvantage and attitudes that lead to horrible crime like this.

More importantly, it makes one wonder about jail. That fella was happy to drive around in a stolen car doing robberies and didn't care he was on camera filling up. He is almost certainly going to be caught. So there is no fear of jail and/or drugs cause irrational behavior. He's have all the rehab programs and much Federal $$$ thrown at him since birth and its done nothing.

There's big big questions there.

He deliberately caused serious injury to someone knowing full well that the attack had the very real potential to cause death.

Not to mention it was completely unprovoked.

Trouble is with good behaviour he will likely be out in months not years which would make our justice system a laughing stock.
