Hilly,Yep they are claiming a 3 inch rise in the last few decades!

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_level_rise

More precise data gathered from satellite radar measurements reveal an accelerating rise of 7.5 cm (3.0 in) from 1993 to 2017,

Just thinking about that, we moved here in late 93.
At super low tides, you could walk all the way along the reef at Avalon from 2nd break to the big gap at 3rd break, I haven't seen that for a few years now.
Hardly a scientific observation though, I haven't been sure to be there at absolute low tide, and taken height measurements every year, along with barometric pressure, etc etc.

A three inch rise could mean a lot,lot more of the beach covered by water.

Of course that is a FACT they are counting on you not being aware of.

How TF did that bollocks get green thumbed? It's from Breitbart, only slightly to the left of Stormfront. They wouldn't have a global warming denial agenda, noooo.

You guys have been given a link to a legitimate science source and you choose to believe contradiction by dead****s like Breitbart!!

Bruun's rule of thumb suggests that for a sandy coastline the ratio of beach retreat to sea level rise is 50 to 100 to 1
So a 3 inch rise could cause the beach to move 300 inches inland.

Wouldn't that mean that the beach would be 300 inches narrower? Assuming vegetation and structures remain in place. And ignoring shifting mud and sand.

Even with all its critics, I'd think it's still a lot better than those. You're free to be critical of Bruun's rule without getting cast adrift.

The irony is the army usually does bugger all when it comes to helping out in natural disasters & normally steps in after the worst is over & most of the work has been done. If I was the PM my response would be to sack this bloke and the rest of the army with him. I might keep the army reserves and the SAS/commandoes. That would be about it. The army does very little to protect Australians from foreign invasion and are a big waste of money.

If you actually look at it, standing armies are the biggest socialist institutions around. They operate purely on top down commands and do not respond at all to bottom up market stimuluses. Is it a coincidence many socialist societies start resembling militaristic ones after a while?

Convenient for decrepit to not respond to the claimed three inch rise in sea level in the last 20 odd years - which if true would on average result in a 300 inch or 25 feet covering of land.

I can assure decrepit and other cultists that the beaches around the Swan River have NOT been encroached by an additional 25 feet of water and are the similar to exactly the same as they were twenty odd years ago

I understand it's hard for some folks to admit they've been well and truly been led up tbe garden path. The ego is who we are for some.

Sometimes it takes our soul to see through the lies. Some of us just know by our gut this 24/7 propaganda campaign is hogwash.

Actually Pete I did respond, but either my post was removed, or this silly old fart forgot to hit the "Post" button.

So I'll have another go.
When we moved here in 93, at very low tides, you could walk along the reef between 2nd break and the big gap at 3rd break. I haven't seen that happen for several years.
Not a scientific observation though, I haven't taken any measurements, or taken into account, when peak low tide occurred, and what the storm surge was.

Climate change science does not predict any past apocalyptic events, what are you talking about????????

If you are referring to all the doomsday nut job predictions, that's irrelevant, we're talking about the vast majority of the world's climate scientists, sort of a different level don't you think?

It's bollocks. Substantiate the claim that climate scientists have claimed we should have had a "global apocalyptic event".
They haven't. It's a strawman.

What they have said is that the globe is warming and bad things are on the way. They have also warned us about tipping points, you know run away warming that can't be stopped.

I haven't seen it for a while, but there was also the chaos theory worry that the climate could slip into another "strange attractor" state, which would mean a completely different unknowable planetary weather system.

Chaos theory is interesting stuff, from wikipedia.
Chaos theory is a branch of mathematics focusing on the behavior of dynamical systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions. Chaos theory is an interdisciplinary theory stating that within the apparent randomness of chaotic complex systems, there are underlying patterns, constant feedback loops, repetition, self-similarity, fractals, and self-organization.Wikipedia

So we are in one "underlying pattern" now created by the current feedback loops. A small change in one of those loops can change the underlying pattern.
One of the predictions is the shut down of the golf stream current buy melting ice, if it happens, this will make Western Britain and Eastern Canada colder for a while. Enough of a feedback loop change? Who knows, it's a chaotic system and the change in underlying patterns is hard to predict.
