I don't think fresh produce will be a problem. You can't stockpile fresh food and you can't freeze it, so there can't actually be a rush on it. Fruit and veggies are too expensive to make the stupid mistake to buy it and then watch it spoil. At the most, you could store it one week ahead, but there's not much point.

Similarly, bread shouldn't be a problem. Who are these people that have brought all the bread and yeast? LOL, they won't know what to do with it, and all the bakeries will just keep making bread each day anyway. You can fill a garage with toilet paper, but no-one wants day old bread and it's too bulky to put more than one or two loafs in the freezer, besides, frozen bread is crap anyway for anything other than toast.

We went to our local butcher yesterday to see more than half of the produce gone. Mince, steak, sausages all gone. We were laughing with them in disbelief when a lady next to us told us she worked at the Good guys. Apparently that day, they completely sold out of freezers and bread makers. She also said they rang Harveys to check with them, same thing..

Apparently in the US today, their were lines outside the guns shops before opening. The world really is going nuts..

I went a did my monthly meat shop. The meat section was cleared of all the cheap cuts, so I leisurely selected a few huge 5cm thick rib eyes bone on, some prime pork belly, a pork fillet, some premium veal mince and a couple of racks of lamb...

Same with the eggs. All the cheap battery farmed and pretend free range (10,000 hens per Ha) ones were gone, leaving the real free range (30 hens per Ha) eggs. Yum.

LOL, they can eat all the cheap sausage and chops they want...

You are very privileged to have multiple family members where this is a consideration. Possibly even able to send some of them to the salt coal mines to bring in additional income.

Going off on a tangent, you can make some great curries with the rubbish cuts of meat, so you aren't missing out on much. It would be a waste to use a good cut on them. You can even load up on the potatoes, and its still good food.

Hmmm, I might get started on the FormulaNova curry right now. Sort of Indian, sort of Thai, but lots of beef, potatoes, peas, and flavor! I think it could last years in the freezer too.

If you see all the 'mexican' tortillas disappear in your local IGA, you know what I am using to go with the curry.

Love my pressure cooker with the cheap cuts, much better result than the 'premium' cuts. Sounds like our curry might be similar.

I've worked out the perfect way to stop all the panic buying of groceries. The government should have a TV advertising campaign instructing Australian shoppers how to react when they see someone at the supermarket with an unreasonable quantity of any item. The ads will feature Lara Bingle, and instead of saying "So where the bloody hell are ya?", she'll be teaching everyone to say "So what are ya doing with all that pasta, you f**k*ng d**kh**d?" If we could get everyone to join in, pretty soon all the panic buying would stop.

Yeah after reading this today, I noticed that almost all meat was gone from the meat section except lamb chops and cutlets (??), some chicken schnitzel, and other random cuts of meat. I think I can say with certainty that the consumers of this meat are not going above the level of barbeque, although I have to admit that that's what I was looking for myself.

I draw the line at chick pea curries though. Have you people not heard of chicken? Sweet potato?

The last [well overdue] order of 5 tonnes arrived in W.A. - missing 3.5 tonnes
Unlike the supermarket's loo paper aisles, the gun shop shelves didn't get stripped - because almost all the powder was sold before it was on the shelves!

The only bonus was the freight bill was $15k, instead of $60k

Yep, cleaned out here yesterday for the first time also, just like the bread. Eggs gone too. Again, I figure it should be short-lived since meat arrives daily and home freezer sizes are limited, unlike garages that can hold a year's worth of loo paper.
