The Christenson thread has turned into a pretty fun convo about midlengths in general so I thought it might be cool to start a new thread as generally a lot of longboarders have a mid in the quiver for when it gets a bit bigger.
I reckon mids are super interesting as they take on the broadest range of design characteristics depending on where your coming from and how you are wanting to surf... They take elements of longboards, logs and gliders but also fish and short boards...
So use this space to share what your riding, to talk about design, shapers and share some cool midlength clips.
A mate needed a softboard for his daughter & when I offered him mine he offered me this
Its a circa 1985 - 1990 Santosha shaped by Mark Ogram dims 6'6 x 19 x 2. The 2 inches is maintained from the rocker to the front fins & the photo's don't do the depth & awesome'ness of the channels justice. Its only got a few light pressures and a very small delamination on the bottom Santosha decal which is also has a small hole.
I want to clean this board up & ride it, I reckon it will be sick. My friend said it rides great, but he has another old board that is his favourite.
Obviously it needs a light sand & from memory these speed finish boards were basically boards which were sanded & then didn't have a filler or gloss coat.
Considering the glass is so old I'm worried it might be brittle & break easily. So I'm tempted to have it glassed with like 1 ounce glass or something. At the very least I want a fresh coat of resin on it.
What do you guys think, will the age of the board make it weak? What do yuz reckon I should do?
I wanna ride this thing so bad, but not until I know its strong.
