That 3M VHB tape they use is crazy effective. A few pieces are holding a 200wh solar panel on the top of my van and it hasn't flinched over the last year or so of use

The tape is strong, but not the surface you're attaching to. Whether a surf board or your van roof, the tape only sticks to the paint. When the paint comes off, so does the VHB bond...

Yeah you can do the same with Severne RDM wave masts too. I have done that previously when I didn't have a spare after noticing a crack in the bottom part. It works as a temporary option, but it's never ideal as the sails are designed to work on the specified mast.

As per above, you're probably better off buying the 460. Knowing that the half's are interchangeable, you have options when you break something down the track.

Thanks for the review. These boards seem to be popping up everywhere in WA now, give me one! Will see if I can get my hand on a 74 or 80 demo.

I'm calling shenanigans on this whole long harness line thing. At 180cm with long arms for my height, 26" are borderline too long. Any longer and I have to artificially stick my rear out to load the harness properly, which is uncomfortable for my (healthy) back.

Nah, 26" is very short. It's probably a matter of getting used to the longer lines and you can never go back after. Try 28", then 30".

Don't listen to the pros! Many don't have the ability to relate to recreational sailors. If your 32" have been working well, stick to it. Otherwise, try a different size and see if you like it more.

The Gorilla, Blue, and Red SeverneRDM masts are identical, except for the 1 layer (Blue) or 2 layers (Gorilla) of glass for strength. Makes you wonder why the Red is more expensive than the Gorilla as it requires less material and labour. Guess it's a higher quality prepreg carbon.

Agree on keeping the fitout flexible but I do not approve of your lack of a decent rack

My fitout was perfect when it was finished, now I'm carrying lots of gear on the bed as well. Oh well, I guess that happens with any layout as you just accumulate more stuff.

More time, probably but who's going to fund that... I guess someone's managing budgets and this one might not survive much longer. That is purely a guess fwiw.

It's probably because the straps are so far out and to the back. You can try putting them more inboard until you can reliably go into the back strap and then move them outboard in the most forward setting.

You just have to learn getting into them, it's not easy but you'll get there. I struggled back in the days on a F2 RX with similar issues. Persevere and you'll be rewarded. Have confidence and you crank that foot in there.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the beginning of the end for this 3Di construction in windsurfing sails, let's see what happens next.

You will always run out of space so go with the biggest one that you can afford and/or park and willing to drive around with.

Even when it'll fit your gear today, you might decide to go foiling or just expand your quiver tomorrow.

Looks like the Amado news is official now. This looks like a mostly stitched together sail though, no 3D stuff? (from his Insta)

Next time, try posting in The FREE stuff thread which is for this purpose. While it was a classic, it wasn't particularly a beauty so not sure if it would have helped. It's always sad to see boards go to landfill, but unless someone is collecting and patching up, there's probably not much use for a board like this anymore.

Based on the description it's not suitable. Best to leave it where it is.

I wouldn't buy a beginner setup either as you outgrow it quickly. Try to get a couple of lessons first. It will generally include beginner equipment and after you know the basics, you can jump an a big intermediate board with a matching sail. Your instructor can advise you based on your local conditions.

If there's no lessons in the area, maybe someone here can set you up. Try in the Victoria forum. The lake looks quite far inland. Does it get windy?

When you press the board on those spots, does it feel soft or firm? If you're not sure, compare to another section that doesn't have damage.

Rdm mast and carbon boom is probably the biggest change to great feel you can make.

I'm not sure if the "pro" versions of sails are worth the extra $$$, at least not for me as I'm probably not good enough to really feel the difference.

I really like the Severne Enigma booms because of the narrow boom diameter, but it's not for everyone.

Don't overthink it! Skills (tuning and technique) are probably more important than the gear, assuming you don't use crappy old stuff. Your skills will improve quickly when you've got more time on the water and in the waves. When you start feeling that your gear is holding you back, that's the time to start upgrading, one by one.

Enjoy, excited times ahead!

Buy a new sail. The bags don't come with zippers anymore and it doesn't cost $100

Yeah avoid using front pockets. My PLB is in the back, still not great but much safer I think.

Never carry potentially dangerous (sharp) objects like old car keys! I've seen folks wearing them on a lanyard under their wetsuits, same applies to pockets, so dangerous!

Yeah great conditions, bit choppy on some of the waves but there were cleaner ones as well. Looked a bit average initially, but it got better and better during the day. They nailed it!

Don't know the person but can't be too many windsurfing Tom's over there. In case it helps, Google gave me Tom Pidden, who seems to live there or otherwise Tom Hofmann who has a YouTube channel with some windsurfing action from there.

Look at the prognosis maps and you'll see why there's uncertainty. There's another trough coming in and hard to predict how that affects the wind so anything can happen.

Haha, thanks!

The event was brilliant. Amazing heats and how close was that women's final!

The live stream made it feel like a 5 star already, nice little chats with the participants as well for some insights. And as always, great drone flying by PVB.

Go watch the recording, I promise it's better than most things on Netflix. Some super gnarly wipeouts and Julian's wave 360 was massive.

Same, I like my Blades but if there was a considerably better sail without a premium price that lasts, I'd consider it. Let's see where North are heading, hopefully everyone can just share honest reviews rather than promos though.

I have not no, but I still think that the language used by Manawa is extremely over exaggerating it. The sails can't be that much better, as already pointed out by others. Maybe some might find them better, but it doesn't make non-North sails redundant. It all just sound like an AI-generated promo to me.

When the sails came out originally, someone here challenged me to trial the sails as Surf Sail had a demo. However, they required me to hire the rig for a day in order to try them. Surely I'm not paying for trying a sail. That said, from what I've seen in the professional and local scene, I don't think it's a game changer.

So maybe North need to win a couple of world titles across disciplines in the PWA/IWT this season before making claims like this...

Honestly? If I were you, I'd wait.
The Gen 2 is an amazing sail, don't get me wrong it fixed the minor quirks of the first batch and it's already light years ahead of any monofilm sail. But the Gen 3 is the 'refined' masterpiece. It depends also on your budget of course. If you want to get on the water with North sails right now, buy the Gen 2. It's a fantastic sail and you'll love it from day one. But if you're the type of person who always wants the latest tech and can afford to wait a little longer for the absolute best, then hold out for Gen 3. Either way, you're leaving the 'stitched curtains' era behind, so you can't really lose! Do you like jumping or only wave riding?

Come on, cut the crap! Light years ahead, refined masterpiece, stitched curtains' era, seriously?!

If this is not AI generated it's merely marketing crap. Are you paid by North or otherwise a bot? I don't think posts like this sound very credible. Reminds me of the early days of this thread.
