Try smaller Tail. Depending on your weight you could give it a try on the Carving XS 140
Smaller Tail means less drag and results in more speed

thanks mate!

anyone else out there been towing the Sk8 ?

any tips on harness line setup Smik bar? looking for setup that'll handle edging HARD upwind when lit

Same as any other para. Single loops like Fone or Ozone on the A line end of the bar work best IMO. Or have a rope/hook on your harness that you click onto the bar never tried but heaps of DIY example on web.

thanks Hilly!

I've got a 3.1m Paia to try but I haven't gotten in the water with it yet. With water temps around 40f or 4.4c I don't like falling in without gloves on. We've had the wind though...

Playing with the Paia on the beach it's clear that it's different than a single skin and I don't want to go out in cold east wind conditions as my intro to that sail. So, I've just been using my old 2m hand wing to scratch the itch on windy days (strike v3 with infinite holes in the canopy).

After parawinging so much the 2nd half of 2025 getting back on a hand wing is wild. The power is so different and the ability to instantly go to true 100% depower is dreamy vs the parawing. You just have to reset your swell riding brain to remember that you have a dance partner to work with now.

March is when we start to get west winds again and that's when the Paia will get a shot. Also trying to get a demo on the 1.9m Hatch and by then the new Pocket Rocket will be releasing so there will be plenty of options to choose from and I'll definitely be excited to get it sorted out.

cool!
yep, so good to mix it up occ with inflatable wing eh.
I cant imagine what that windchill is sittin on yr board in 50 knots 4 degree water and air. Ocean here's cooled with monsoon crap weather, down to 29.3C on the sounder yesty ;)
really lookin frwd to v2 Pocket rocket too. Powerpack-ish line config with a canopy for fanging upwind, shld make for some fun sailin!

BWalnut you should get down to lake Mohave as it gets real windy there and 8-10 wingers out most windy days and most guys own 2m wings

Do people stay in Lost Wages and then travel to the lake on windy days? Sounds like a wild adventure. I love the climbing there in Red Rocks.

JonahL said.. I think it partly depends on what type of gusty winds you are in.

I'll be testing this:

High winds here are never steady. They are always gusty and conditions like this are brutal to ride effectively in. I can have a blast in this with a 2m Strike v3 (no low end, unlimited top end) but I'm yet to really lock in to these winds with the right parawing. I'm hoping this is where the Paia can shine.

For future comparison, this is one of my stronger days on the 2.4m Pocket Rocket where it wasn't full survival mode, gusting to 43 knots:

The angles aren't bad but my lap times are always weak on the 2.4m. 10 minutes down, 15 minutes up is common on most of my laps. That, and the fact that I do have to be hyper aware of what's going on gets a bit tiring mentally. My hope is that the Paia will be faster upwind and calmer.

An unknown variable is how much slower am I going upwind because the swell is so much steeper and breaking on days like this vs going fast upwind in calmer waters.

How goes the search for a tiny wang for smokeonthewater days B?

Towing into long period stuff on my sK8 v1 / XXXS Carving180 tail/ 85mast, been putting the hours in but still coming unstuck too much when there's even small chop or any reverb at all,. And those are big stacks. Tapping into a whole lot more energy than even fully lit winging
any tips on milking Sk8 top end? aside from buying another foil

any insight how that angled bottom aft of the boxes improves takeoff and/or touchdowns??

I've been quite pleased with the Pilot as a solid upgrade in that realm vs the Carver. I think the pilot releases far better when you clip a rail than the Carver or Aviator did, that's my favorite thing about it. Aviator would track, Carver would bog, Pilot just lets go.

thanks!......so with some miles on the Pilot, what neutral volume Sunova would you buy now, say if you were headed to La Vent or Fiji?

Granted its ugly as sin, but my stock Carver's a brilliant wing/parawing daily driver, and the build has stood up to so much punishment boatlaunching and reef landings.
Carver length/width/volume distribution recipe just right for a neutral volume board - steady at rest but nimble as picking your way thru groundswell overlaid with big windswell.
Would love to test drive the Coaster, see if Ben's tweaks and that angled rockerline rear of the boxes [vs the flat-thru-tail Carver] improves takeoff enuf to justify upgrading

I have the 1150 sk8 and I think it is a great foil. Low stall speed and good allround. I use this in low wind. Crisp 130 tail with xxs.

thanks John! is that a custom Crisp stab to fit the monobloc fuse?

anyone tried 1150 or 1050 Sk8 for light wind parawing option?
I realise Sk8s are not lift monsters, but seeing more on s/h market, and figure a big one with a bigger stab might work nice with 5m trashbag in the light stuff? Enuf lift to get going in 10 knots with some bump help, and still have a nice bit of roll & flow compared to a big Sevenseas
Have been winging 850 Sk8 in 10k+ and 550 sk8 15k+, so not looking for top end.

am stuck with only a 2019 4m Naish Wingsurfer for the holidays, any hot tips on getting on foil with this thing in less-than-Maui wind?
Squirrelly little bugger esp coming from boomed wings.
It'd be sacrilege, but I'm tempted to macgyver a boom onto it, try and add some control over the centre of effort and pump
