Had my first session !

Pinnaro Point - 12-13 knots.
Not choppy by any means for fin windsurfing, but still choppy enough to interfere with learning.

Hoped for a bit more wind. Many times almost up, the front being out, the tail still on the water.

Then up, all the way out , and the foil brached, crashed.

More struggle, then the board came out, and everything went quiet

Lasted for 10-15 seconds, then a wave touched the nose, and it was over. Still happy I got up.
A bit of a walk of shame back up wind.

I learned this:
The flight was effortless, everything else was exhausting.

The front footsteap interfering as I couldn't use it, and it was in the way. I think my front foot was too much forward because of it, so it was harder to lift the board.
Took it off until I get comfortable with my front foot.

Need to find some flat water. The chop makes the control more difficult.

Haven't uphaul a sail for a looong time. It's unpleasant.
Managed to waterstart most of the time, otherwise it would be even harder.

My leg touched the foil twice. Luckily I had the wetsuit on - thanks for the advice.

Did you read this thread?

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Foiling/Slingshot-Hover-Glide-fuselage-positions

Most people ran i76 in B and i99/i84 in C. But it looks like you have invented a D position with the front wing further forward than the stab is back from the mast

Yes, that's me, the innovator
I was told to use the C position for this (formula) board.

In C position the fuse front becomes back
it's to get the front wing forward enough for Tuttle

Thanks Mark, will turn the fuse around then.

I got my bolts, and have set it up in te "C" position.

Is this too far back?
The manual sats something about reversing the fuse 180 degrees, which confuses me.

I have no idea how I ended up with 3 images.
It's the same photo

There is more to it in my opinion.
The mast stiffness and curve also makes a difference.

I used a NP 100% with Ezzy Cheetah. The mast is very light but the sail always felt a bit "wet" and inert.
I then bought a Blueline 75%, and the same sail feels "crispier".
I now only use the Blueline with this sail, regardless of the mast weight.

Will hold onto the boom . Thanks.
Found the booties and the impact vest at the back.
The vest seems to have "shrunk".

There will (hopefully) be some nice stories, rather than battle scars. I prepared the first aid kit though
Just need the bolts to arrive...

Spent a few hours today visiting bolt places looking for the tuttle bolts without much luck.
Eventually got home and ordered them online.
So pushing back my first session by one week

Thanks for your advice guys. The gear is in a great condition for it's age, and I'll look after it.
Rinse after each use and disassemble frequently.

Thedoor...
Will start with a 5.7m wave sail. It should be ok. Interesting approach to control the flight by going upwind or downwind.
Learning a lot here.
Hope it doesn't all evaporate upon the first attempt

Was thinking the river first but now thinking Hillarys North wall. It's protected in SW and "flattish". Wingers seem to like the spot.

Thanks,
It was well looked after so far. In a very good nick.
The seller told me to apply quality grease on the threads and holes.

Why is lanolin better than i.e. WD40?

Interesting about the wing surface and oil.

Cheers Paducah,
I thought the i84 would be perfect (appx 2000cm2), but one takes what's available.
The i76 should work with a bit of wind.

Not 100% ready. Need to hunt down 2 long bolts for the tuttle box. The current ones are too short.
Alen head, 10mm x 10cm - not your usual Bunning item.
Don't want to order online - will take too long to arrive.

Thanks utcminusfour,

heaps of great advice. Will try to follow, but once the excitement takes over, one forgets everything

The back foot position in front of the box. In the center. The front foot over the front wing.
I Will leave waterstarting for later.

I can imagine getting it balanced is the biggest challenge.
Although, watching the racers flying around the gybe marks seems simple enough

Don't mind the formula board. It's very light and sems very comfortable for uphauling.
Don't know if I remember how. I am sure I have an uphaul rope somewhere

Thanks guys, now onto tge videos. One step at the time.

So now to pair it to a sail. 5.7? 7m?

Now, Youtube instruction videos ??

Mark reinforced the box. Don't think he moved it.

Will check the Superflyer, thanks.

Madlad, thanks not looking beyond the initial experience at the moment. If I find I like it, I'll start looking for the next level set.

Thanks !

It's an older formula board.
No idea on the volume. Seems big.
Other people started on it so I imagine it works.

I have 5.7 and 5.3 Wave sails.
The next size up is 7m freeride.

Will look for a longer fuse. Thanks

Hi guys,

Looking for your guidance on which foil is suitable for a 100kg beginner.

Looking for a cheap s/h option.
Need to figure out if I like it first before I spend for a better foil.

So I have a board now (thanks Mark).
Mark suggested the Infinity 76.
I read about them Infinities and I guess the 84 would work too.

Ah yes, it's a deep Tuttle box.

Not many advertised, so hoping I could get a few more recommendations here.

thanks

Sorry to hear Sue. Will be hard to sleep. Every time you move...

I once cracked a rib, went to a GP and told him "I may have cracked a rib", so he sent me to have xrays. 5 xrays later, went back to the same GP, who looked at the xrays, scratched his head and said: "you may have cracked a rib"

Only cost me $700 in total.
Took about 6 weeks to heal.

I had a JP FSW 2005 which was perfect.
Tried to replace it with many boards but none felt as nice (to me). Not even another vintage of the same board.
Could not believe my luck when I saw the same board advertised.
Maybe wait for your board to become available? Likely to be cheap too.

Yes, agreed for Dyno. In a single fin 4 straps combo, it gets reasonably fast.
3S Classic , yes. Would not agree with a 3S+ being as fast.

It does get frustrating with the versions.
I like the standard Rocket a lot, as it can be fast and is extremely friendly in chop.
But only the 2016 vintage.
Hought some earlier models, and these were more "slappy". Later models are going wider.
I don't have money for experiments of that magnitude.
