Still watching and kite foiling.

I've got a Sunova crossover and a GoFoil Iwa. Waiting for Switch to bring out a wing. Based on their kite prices they should be $700-800.

There's a wing foiling crew that go out from Edwards St ramp near the Red Bluff on any kind of southerly. There's sand bars inshore and protected from the swell. You get quite long rolling swell from a fair way out. The early adopters are improving quickly.

Just grab a Gong if you want a cheap, decent wing.

And here am I thinking this is just some average spot on the bay

Now once the spot is teeming with so many wingfoilers you can't find a spot in the lineup, know who to thank

See you on the weekend!

Im an experienced windsurfer, now a novice windfoiler, now curious about windwinging. Im windfoiling on a massive 1m wide 180L formula board with a Starboard Supercruiser foil (Deep Tuttle connection). I'm 95kg, so thinking of a 6m wing as once it hits 18+kts I'll be on my windsurfer.

So my question is would my super tanker formula board work for windwinging while Im learning or is it just silly?

Stretchy, for wing foiling I think it would be better using a sup foil, or wind surf foil board. Using the Starboard 0cean 2400 or 2000 would be recommended. I use the Starboard 2000 mainly for wing foiling and when using the supercruiser windfoiling. The 2400 Starboard Ocean will allow for the earliest foiling performance when wing foiling. I use a 6m Ozone wasp with the 2400 foil for 12-18kts. The fuselage on the super cruiser can be used however for more of a surfy feel then the shorter 67 surf fuselage I would recommend. The supercruiser fuselage offers better upwind performance.

There are more and more Wing specific foil boards hitting the market. They seem to have volume in relatively less length and width compared to an SUP. F-One and Fanatic are 2 examples.

Interesting they don't give the thickness in their specs for either site....I guess that's the secret ingredient. The DIY wing-specific boards I've read about, people seem to be going 5-6" thick, more or less a dock float, as that volume has to come from somewhere! But cool if it works, enough float to kneel-start, but less swing weight while up would be .

I have a DIY sup foil, 6'x28x5.5", which will soon get a try with the wing. The negative, though, I went with the Kalama inspired square nose with very little nose rocker ... and for sup foiling, it has a tendency to grab on take-offs or touchdowns. I think it'll be worse winging, as I've noticed in large chop the nose can dig in while planing forward, gaining speed, but not yet up on foil. I am considering some surgery on it, shaving in some nose rocker and bit more profile in the nose ... lose a little volume but the forward movement gains should make up for it. It's a frankeboard already, really can't get any uglier.

We learned to wing foil by doing downwinders so going upwind was not a concern. That way we could focus on getting comfortable flying the foil and handling the wing before trying to go upwind. You need to have an angle of at least about 45 degrees to the wind though, going straight downwind does not work. Practicing wing handling on land is really important and will make the first session much easier. We made this video with helpful tips:

Yeah those are some helpful tips. Practicing on land is really helpful, and the 45 degrees angles works pretty well also. It's been a while since I spent time sailing on my old Hobie cat but what I learned on that sailboat helps me with the wing

Break through session today. New location=flat water and 14-16 knots of consistent wind. Used 5 meter Fone with Armstrong 2400. Able to gybe to toeside consistently and switch feet on foil. So satisfying to be making progress. Almost ready to try some small waves.

Also, you do not have to account for the row effect on a Wing specific foil boards, so you can have less length, less parallel rails, and a more rounded outline to avoid touching water in turns. In the Gong line, you can compare the Lemon (pure Wing) with the Flint (Wing and SUP hybrid)
