Just got a Kalama e3 wing board. The 4'8"x 26" size. Looking for a board bag that is travel suitable. Ideally with sleeves for foil masts/ wings as well. The perfect solution looks like the LF supply travel bag, just wouldn't fit this board?

Get a LF bag. Just took the 5"9 overseas with a 4"0 board, 3 wings, 6 foils and 2 masts, pump and all my tools. Weighed in all in at 31.9/32kg Qantas allowance, then 38kg coming home - Hawaii checkin just marked it as 32 .
I made a custom neoprene board bag to put inside with 2mm top and bottom and 5mm protection for rails. Bubbled wrapped board/ foils, then put into neoprene bag. Then used wings and towels as extra protection in bag.

probably went overkill, but I don't want to see my gear ruined by anyone other than me.Would get a bag with wheels next time, but that's just more weight in the bag. Was a bit hard to carry 32kg and a normal bag, but you manage.

Recently used it on an airline trip and had my 60L appletree 4'9 wing board, my 35L amundson 4'6 prone board, 2 hand wings, 2 Armstrong masts, a fuse, 2 front wings, a couple of tail wings, and one fuse. Also had my wetsuits in there for padding.

i really like the internal and external straps to sinch everything down.

For my previous Quatro 90L board I used an Armstrong boardbag, which was also nice, however the mystic is more of a travel bag.

Do you have a picture of the bag packed up? I just ordered the same appletree board and the same board bag, and also have a 38L prone board. I'm using Lift foils though ??. I'd love to see how you packed all that stuff up to be plane-safe.

The ends of the bag have 20mm foam. It's built like the proverbial brick ****house.

The bags are roomy. I contacted them and they recommended the 4'9" bag for my 5' board. It fits like a glove for length. There's a fair bit of slack at the sides. I would have preferred a custom fit bag but it would have cost more and taken longer to arrive.

I had the Gofoil 5' x 24.5" x 4'8" in that bag. The length was perfect. The width was too much. It worked very well to protect the board but took up too much space in the car.

I've since bought the gen 2 version of the same bag. It's a bit narrower and tapers in at the nose and tail. It's a much nicer fit in the car.

If you contact Curve and give them your dimensions they'll tell you what size to get. They've been pretty much spot on with the advice they've given me.

I still have the old bag in the garage. Still deciding whether to sell it on or keep it to cut up for materials for making other stuff. It would not be too difficult to lengthen it to fit my 5'10 x 26 but the nose padding might make it a bit bulky for sitting in the back seat foot well.

Re. the Mystic star bag, Tucker (Mac kiteboarding) recommends the 5"6 for 5" boards to give more protective room.

I've seen people fit in a 5"4 board in that bag. And my board is only 5"/23" (narrower than most).

Surely 5"1 is big enough to pack 2 wings & complete foil with 2 front wings ?

I've been searching for a good travel bag setup as well. I'm still searching. I ordered a mystic 5.1 bag, but ended up sending it back. The build quality and padding was good, but the bag is very large. US airlines only allow 23kg for overweight and the mystic bag would weigh substantially more if filled to capacity. I'm looking for a bag that will fit one board, foil and two wings snugly. After seeing the gwen and damo show video about packing for travel it seems like going for a kiteboard golf style bag is my best bet for small compact setup. (The video is a bit confusing, gwen is packing into a cabrinha kite golf bag, but he's advertising a dakine wing bag which is clearly totally different and much bigger than the one he is using in the video)

What options are out there for a wheeled board bag? From what I can tell:

- Takoon (I have one)
- Manera
- Larry Foiler (but never in stock)
- mystic square bag

anything else that I'm missing? Definitely want wheels and want something smaller but more protective than the takoon bag. My latest approach is to separately pack foils and wings and keep the board bag lighter to limit damage. I find that an overpacked bag is more prone to damage.

The mystic is just 8mm if I recall, this is quite slim to travel ? I do have the Dakine Wing travel Wagon, I fitted 2 full foils, 3 wings, extra stabs/fuses/wetsuits/yoga mat for the wife/snorkling gear and a 4'10 (I do have the 5'4). It's 12mm and has a hard divider that will offer protection for your board from foil and mast. Downside, it's expensive and a bit heavy. I was 65lbs while limite is 70lbs. The mystic star bag is great. I have it too. Saw a good review by Tucker (Mackite) and decided to go for it.
The one thing that's annoyingly missing though, is a velcro-ed cut for the foil mast. This would make the bag ideal for daily use too.

I have a Takoon day bag that has this cut for the mast and it's just very convenient.

Also I have to admit, the Mystic Star bag is so well equipped with the needed pockets and compartments, that it's easy to fit everything in it, making a packed bag also pretty heavy with e.g. board, foil, 2 wings, wetsuit etc.. I do miss the wheels.. @dspace how did you fit the wheels?

Would I buy it again? Only if it had the mast cutout/velcro + wheels.

I second the Mystic after travel to Oahu from Virginia. I used a cruiser skateboard as wheels, but that was a bit tricky at times. I'd be super keen to get more insight as to how @dspace sourced/rigged his temporary cart.

A bag with wheels is too much of a weight hit if you are trying to keep under the 22.6 kg weight limits a lot of flights have for standard baggage.

You shoulda seen me at 3:30 am on this never ending hike from hell across this carpeted airport with no carts in sight, my skateboard plan failing, pulling two bags trying to keep up with my wife. Full sweats by the time I made baggage.

I flew to Baja w/ the ION Tec Gearbag 5.4. I flew Alaska, and they let you go over the 50lb weight limit for sports equipment... they didn't even weigh my bag. The wheels are super nice to have and there's a shoulder strap that you attach to the front so you sling it over your shoulder to roll and you have two free hands which is super awesome when you have a newborn in a stroller. I was able to pack in my 4.8 wing board, one foil, three wings, two wetsuits, towel, pump, parts, leashes, etc... I think it was around 60lbs.

Just finished packing it for Maui. This time I'm dividing into two bags to make it easier for the baggage handlers and fitting in an uber... and also b/c I'm bringing a prone board and more foils. So far the hardest part has been finding Uber XL's that actually are large. Nice when you get a minivan.

My rental cars have ranged from Nissan X-Trail to Dodge Journey to Chevy Traverse, and the 5.4 wheelie bag fits in the back with one seat down.

I had Duotone Slick and SLS (all have windows) wings packed in the bag for two trips. No problems at all.

all of the wings I packed had windows. never had a problem. I do make sure to fold on the cloth instead of the PVC, but my first repaired wing I pulled the battens and stuffed it into a tiny box crumpling the windows to death. It came back fine!

Funny, PVC windows in windsurfing sails are supposedly the strong part.

For those who asked about temporarily securing a small folding cart to the Mystic Star bag, this is what I used. Purchased on Amazon; under $50 usd, about 3-4 pounds, secured with a few bungees. Once I'm at the gate, I take it off, fold it up and put it in the roller duffel bag.

I also put my 90ish cm Gong carbon mast in the roller duffel bag, not the Mystic bag. I could have squeezed it in the Mystic bag along with other stuff (like the pump) but I just didn't like the board bag being that heavy at all, and it would have been an awkward fit. For all the traveling, keeping the board bag under 25kg was completely worth it for this old guy.

Although the folding roller cart worked adequately as a quick and simple solution for that big trip, I think I could make a custom removable roller setup that would work better ( wider wheel stance, quicker on-and-off, just as light). Maybe a spring project.

i see you are also splitting up stuff into two bags. I'm going to try that this trip to Maui. Alaska is giving me two free checked bags per person on our reservation, so having smaller, lighter bags probably is easier to travel with... I guess I'm about to find out at least.

There are some airports like PDX (Portland, OR near the Gorge) that have really long walks from baggage claim to the car rental counter. Having wheels or a cart in these situations is mandatory.

Interesting looking bag! Is there a difference or a point checking this bag in as a 'golf bag' instead of a ' wingfoil bag'? Or do you say 'kitesurf bag'?

Do airlines know what is winging?
