Ordered a 4.5m to replace my 4.5m Slick for the light stuff, expensive but if it's as good as people have been reporting the kite versions are it will be worth it I reckon. I get so much use out of my ding gear spending money where it counts is a no brainer for me.

I was interested to see duotone using Aluula in their kites knowing of course an Aluula wing wouldn't be far away. Props to Ocean Rodeo for pioneering the material but I feel like it needs multiple brands pushing Aluula before it will become common/ popular. Definitely excited to see the progression.

Seems like this is still in prototype stage. How did you order one? What sizes were offered and how much did it cost? Looks great to me!

This is great! The more Aluula used in production will hopefully help bring down the cost (more competition). I guess it comes down to the supply and production costs of the fabric. The more demand might lead to higher cost initially for the whole supply chain, but should hopefully dip down the road.

Given that Ocean Rodeo has yet to deliver any full Aluula wings (I paid for mine in March), Duotone may actually be the first ones on the market!

Hopefully this is the tipping point for Aluula. So many new innovations get stuck in a catch 22 situation. They need mass uptake to achieve mass production and lower costs. They also need mass uptake to prove themselves as a worthwhile product. But they also need lower costs and proof of being a worthwhile product to achieve mass uptake in the first place. Foiling was stuck in this holding pattern for decades before it exploded into what it is now.

When is it available? Sizes?

Every video from AWSI has some of these flapping around in the background. Kind of takes the focus off of whatever else the video is trying to show me!

I am thinking the uptake of Allula wings with the extra cost will be quicker than with kiting. This is because the allula material qualities are exactly what wingers are looking for. Rigid and light. Or more to the point the performance gains wing wise will be far more important for a wing than a kite.

What I want to know is whether they are using different bladder material for those high pressure on aluula wings because I cannot imagine the current ones withstanding 11psi and it's the most fragile component on wings - hence they keep bulging and popping.

Also why is aluula always yellow ? Can they not add dye to it ? Dacron can be in any colour.

The aluula supports the bladder. You can inflate the same bladder to higher pressure with aluula than Dacron. Unless the bladder gets unseated (which has nothing to do with the leading edge material) It's not going to bulge if it has nowhere to go.

puncture resistance is a different thing (although I understand aluula represents to be more puncture resistant than Dacron too).

Risking hijacking the Duotone thread ... so I'll focus my comments on Aluula rather than Ocean Rodeo specifically. I demo'd one a week ago, just got mine tonight, first session on it, just so good. As eppo said above...super stiff....light...exactly what we want in a wing. I have little doubt that all premium high-performance wings will have aluula leading edges and struts within a few years. Dacron will be still be available too, for mid-range "good enough" economy performance. If you get a chance to demo one, do so! Even playing with it on land, the difference is obvious. Pretty stoked for the upcoming wave season.

Arrrg the wait is killing me, they are still a long way off from what I've heard. How's the bottom end and pumpability compared to the Dacron version?

Doutone still seem to be sticking with the floppy front LE handle. Wings looks great otherwise. Will the canopy material still bag out after a season of heavy use? I saw a post recently of a PPC wing using a laminate canopy material. Keen to try one.

light wind on land flying/flagging test b/w the 4.0 regular and 4.0 Aluula, the Aluula version definitely flew earlier in the very light breeze. Pumping on land, you can feel the difference in stiffness and pop. On the water, I did not try the regular version, as they only brought one 4.0, and the breeze was light. Was able to go on the 4.5 Aluula on the Fanatic 5'0"/1250 combo when others were using large wings 6.0+ Of course Zane Schweitzer and Titouan Galea were also foiling at the same time on small gear from different brands.

recommended PSI printed on the LE was 6psi on the wings I checked. not sure if this will be on the production wings as these were ones Ken Winner flew in with from Maui. They said they were pumped slightly higher.

Also, there is a 2nd dump valve on the LE near one wingtip so you can roll from one side to the other.

tl;dr feels like a really nice wing and will be ordering a 3.5 for sure... and probably a 5.0 also. i'm 185lbs.

Good to hear. I have the current 4.5m Slick and 4.0 Unit but find myself reaching the 4.0m Unit all the time. I'm hoping the new 4.0m in the Aluula will get me the same pumping power as the 4.5m Slick, once I'm up there's not a lot of difference between the 4.0m Unit and 4.5m Slick.

Do we know what sizes the duotone unit aluula will come in?
