The sport is still so young and at no stage has it stalled in development or gone back to an older design. As riders skill level rises across the board so will the designs in the foils & other associated equipment . it's especially painful for me chatting to team riders from most brands of what's new and frothing coming out only to get my hands on it 6 to 8 months later and by that stage someone else has something new in the pipeline. Having said all that , getting the opportunity to ride heaps of new stuff can actually send you backwards in your riding and if you have a set up which you are super comfortable on and it does everything you want , I agree why change........ unless you are a foil addict like me

Rob I love how you showcase the new stuff, defo keep that flame and feedback coming :-) but would also love to know your thoughts on what you think your current desert island set up would be? (assume the island has a right point on one side, a small beachie on the other and constant wind off it what has been your fav setup to date?

I have been winging for 3 years and I've realised that hand wings don't interest me much and I don't need the big bucks wings. Im strapless, don't jump and I don't freestyle. All I want a hand wing to do is get me on foil and into waves and if I put a hole in it then oh well. If spent silly money on a wing I'd be a bit more cautious in the water and I don't want that!!!

I don't think boards make a huge difference and have had my Naish for 14 months after having 4 or 5 in quick succession.

The one area I still spend on is foils. However, this is because you need to drop some money to work out what works for you, your weight, skill level and your local conditions. I now think I've worked it out (if you are interested the majority of my foiling is MA). Btw, Gong foils being a bit cheaper has definitely helped me explore and experiment without spending too big. .

I've enjoyed reading peoples spending journeys..

Right now if I packed my gear and headed to Fiji I'd only take 2 foils . My Cab 800 & 1000 (78 & 85 mast) that will cover all my prone needs and wing ding with a 4.5m & 6m Slick SLS. If there was a chance I could tow I'd throw in the 650 as well. That's all I only use now here at home. I'm pretty taken on my Cab gear and once the new stuff comes out I "Probably" won't change again .

BUT now I'm back into the Sup DW again that's another suitcase full of foils so I'll never travel with that , once I get off my Axis big foils and my skill set has set in , hopefully I'll be Sup DW on the new Cab 1300...... but we will have to wait and see on that one

Nice, glad to hear you are still a big fan of the cab gear and yes, unfortunately this sup downwind business puts a very different equation in the mix when it comes to foils - as if it wasn't complicated enough!

My experience with constant gear upgrades goes both ways. It slowed me down in certain areas but had me progressing very fast in other.

Back when I was struggling with gybes I had 3 different foils systems and I tried each without a lot of success
and then added another foil system to my quiver which instantaneously unlocked my gybes and kept it at high success rate.

I had the same experience when learning to ride bumps, a single foil unlocked my ability to comfortably ride downwind from struggling to keep up with one bump at a time to having to dry runs within few weeks.

I noticed the same affect with another friend who went the same route and saw leap in his ability to perform.
I then understood that the right gear could make a huge impact.

That said, I don't mean that one foil is better than another but for me certain foils were better than other so I'll keep on buying stuff as long as I'm exploring different conditions and changes.

No new hand wings or boards for me this season. The only thing I might do is upgrade my carbon mast to a high modulus version and add one front foil to the foil quiver.

I really didn't think the cost of the High Modulus mast was worth it .... until I got one..... it seriously is worth the money , everything just works so much better with it especially on the larger foils .

You went and convinced me to upgrade to HM. Order placed. Net upgrade cost after I sell my current V2 carbon mast will be ~$400 usd in the Gong ecosystem. I figure good enough for Malo and,......well within the MWR (minimal-wife-resistance) range

Piros, the Cabrinha gear looks really good. Just curious if you've had a chance to revisit the Armstrong gear with the new masts and MA foils? I know you didn't get on with the previous mast and wider span (HA1125+) foils. Lots of great choices and "stiff" competition now.
