Just in case anyone wants to get a new custom made, now is a great time.

I have just ordered an Angulo Custom. Its been a great experiance so far.

Its a good time now as the Australian dollar is at such a good exchange rate to the U.S. dollar.

Mark emails me back now and again with suggestions and I have been able to design the paint scheme and fin set up and strap positions too. Each board also comes with a set of Black Project fins, these are probably about the best fins currently being made. This board is having 1 x 20cm and 2 x 10cm thrusters.

whats the cost of an angulo delivered? i saw some rad fades on the spray jobs when i was over there.

Nice board, I like the double corecell under your feet and all the footstrap positions.
The Angulo's have lots of shaping experience, which is really important when getting a custom

Good to see there is still a triving custom board market, sure beats buying a board off the shelf at your local store and having to ride something made to suit everywhere and works best nowhere..

I reckon it would go good over here, Maui has there fair share of not so good conditions and the Angulo's have sailed in other parts of the world and probably made heaps of boards for people in other countries. I'm sure he'd have the experience to adjust the rocker, volume and rails to suit. If Mattstocks has asked for a low volume, full on down the line offshore mast high slayer then it might not go too well here
But yeah good to see more custom boards(i am a bit biased to customs)

Mark asked me all the questions, ability, weight, sail size etc, and he came out with some good stuff like, what are the rips like and currents etc.

I let him come up with the dimensions, I just sort of quoted the volume.

It will have a lot of straps as my right knee has had three operations so when coming in I cant ride with my legs in the usual Strap positions so have chosen to get another mid back strap fitted just for riding, wont be having a jump pad in under that strap either so I get more Feel for the board.

I am getting a custom spray job too, purple and orange with some Daisy's on it as thats my little girls name and want to keep her interested in Windsurfing and am not afraid to show my soft side either.

As soon as Mark sends me the finished picture I will post it.

They are about $2500 depending on what you go for but the delivery is around $450 without GST which I am not sure I will have to pay...????? Which is around the same as a new board from a shop.

Hey Matt.... I'm frothin over those pics of your new custom Can't wait to see the final product. What volume and width did you go for ? I have been dropping subtle hints to the mrs for some new kit.... got any suggestions ....

I went for a 89 litre, 58.5 cm wide. It usually takes around three weeks for mark to make as theres several stages in the process of construction from shaping the blank to re-inforcements to laminating then fittings then spray job.

If I were going for a smaller board I would get a Tri-panel thruster as on his website.

This is why I chose Angulo, he works with tools and uses his eye and just knows a good shape.

Also theres plenty of good shapers in Oz, Stone, EOS, Nude and others and all seem to good at what they do too.

Wow thats getting expensive after freight, hope you don't get hit with import tax and gst.. it will be over $3000 then..

Yea I paid 1950 for my custom Stoney and it's suited to Wa conditions and rips in the waves and I think nude does a similar thing as well

WTF is this boards suited to WA conditions or not made for WA conditions.. a good board work in all conditions. and we have pretty good conditions. i haven't been to maui but i'd say we have some better spots. gnarls for one and the others i won't name cause they are crowded enough.

it's like saying that quatro boards won't work here, and starboards by scotty won't work anywhere else.. taboos and all the other **** only work in europe.

Actually after chatting to Mark, the prices are around $2000 so including delivery they aren't totally different compared to retail.

Still not sure on the GST etc yet though.

Had a look at his wedsite, some of the little ones are 216 long!.. NOt that impressive cause I have a freestyle board shorter than that, but still pretty progressive for a Doorknob.. Looks like he's taking length off behind the back strap, whereas I like it off the nose..

I recon you need a bit of length on a wave board, too short and they are just too korky....

Freestyle you want it as short as poss so you can chuck it around in the air.

my new board is 235 long and I still recon thats short. 216 is still short compared to a lot out there, still recon the plan shapes are great on an Angulo, nice curved edges.

If you look at mine the back strap isn't that close to the edge, maybe being a total custom the people that ordered them want to ride then that way. Also the boards do look longer when viewing from above as they have constant curved edges, no straight sections, means you can have a faster rocker line and use the rails for turns, which I prefer.

235 wowzers! thats long (imagine telling someone your board was 235 ten years ago).. I still reckon 220 is a sensible length and it's only not common on productions cause people are afraid of nosediving..

You don't use the rail outline to carve?, rails act against your carve. If you engage a curved rail in the water it will steer you away from the turn.. It's the rocker that engages the correct turn.


The outline of a snowboard is the reverse of surfboard. And some formulas seem to have parallel rails, they still turn fine.. Always curious about a wave board with a snowboard outline..

Theres a bit of a print error on the 92 litre board it should be 239cm as its 8ft 1inch.

I still think a good wave board for my size should be around 235cm, thats short enough.

Also just in case anyone else thinks people have got the whole rocker thing a bit wrong I got some expert advice and the pro's all say a board will turn with three things.

1) Rocker.
2) Fin size and sweep.
3) Rails, rail tuck and edge curves.

I wouldn't ever want to ride a formula board in surf either.

I think he's pretty clever taking it off the tail. I took 3cm off the tail of the last board I made, it reduces the length with minimal effect to volume, it's just extra wetted drag area that can be removed with minimal negative effect on the board.

Also have photo's of the finished board but aren't going to put them up as its a special present to myself for my 40th birthday and dont want people to slate it and tell me they think its going to be bad because of this and that.....

Its in some ways not at all what I imagined and in a lot of ways heaps better..

I believe, that because it's made according to your desires and thorough consulting, it is going to kick ass, no matter how long and how wide, it is board made for you and you will ride it better than any other boards just because of that...

dont really mind if it kicks ass etc, just hope its miles better than what I have now and rides nicely etc......

Colours are different from what I originally wanted but told them to keep it plane but nice with the flowers so my little girl will love it too and hopefully want to windsurf one day too.

Deck is actually emerald green to blue fade just Mark emailed from his phone and colours aren't as bright.

Theres extra plugs for an intermediate back strap just in case I want it.

bottom is definately an ass kicker :) Very nice!

Looking at width, litres, tail etc, I think it is going to end up being great board for east coast wavesailing.

haven't been on the forums in ages, but hey, I got my quatro custom last year from maui... i'll dig up some stuff that might help ya with customs ;) PM me if ya want the info... I got it delivered to sydney airport and picked it up from there after it got cleared through customs, need an importing agent to do some paperwork so I could pick it up but wasn't too expensive. After it arrived it took about 3-4days until I had my hands on it...

Technically you will have to pay GST as it is over $1000, you will be paying GST on the freight component as well. Not sure about Duty, there is a free trade ageement with the US but not sure if it covers this type of item.
I advise you to talk to a freight forwarder before getting it shipped, any mistakes can be costly.
