i wont go that small leman cause i am a heavy guy. i would only go down to a 4.5 i think. i can hold down my 5.4 in 30 knots, so a 4.5 would be ok for me..

What size is you mast and boom? You could probably go down that far without replacing the rest. Most of those small sails have extension webbing out the top. Both my 4.5 and 4.7 do and they are KA Khaos. I can sail controllably up to 40knots, but then it gets nose smashing scary. Would love to be able to sail in 40-50knots in reasonable control but who wants to fork out $1000 for once or twice a year conditions.

The 3.3 Kaos will rig on either a 370 or 400 mast as it has an adjustable strap at the top - luff length is 352. It needs a boom which will go down to 141. So most people will have a 400 mast and an adjustable boom which goes this small. I am not quite 70kg so figure either myself or my partner, who is a novice, will get some use out of the 3.3. I figure that on a 40+ day I'd be looking to use it.

Because it was old stock (2006 model), even though brand new, it was way less than $1000 - in fact less than half that from memory.

But when giants like Tony Wynhoven were rigging their 4.4s on Big Sunday, then the runts like myself need to go significantly smaller in order to be able to sail.
