Guys,

We are hoping to collate a knowledge base with click-able Google map overlay of sites to sail in Tasmania, with everything you might want to know.
It will be like talking to the local guy before you sail...(even if they are mad dumb pricks )

There isn't such a thing as too much information, so ideally, I'd like to see everyone send me something about their favourite spot, or dream spot that they're too scared to sail at, but know how to get there for example.

We've done up a basic template to try and keep things uniform, and asking for those of you who are willing to share your thoughts, knowledge, tips, photo's, guides, random words, even dots and dashes, we can hopefully increase Windsurfing Tassie awareness, but also make it easier for everyone to find somewhere to get on the water.

There really isn't a long term plan for this, other than to make something that is usable for everyone - so if anyone has any ideas or improvements or critisms, please speak up. I know a few of you have posted in the past google maps with directions/guides, where to park, and launch from etc - could you please email these too me as well, so I don't have to go looking for them!

Please email me whatever you have to johnhuett at gmail.com (change "at" to @).

Here's the basic template below, an example on what content to enter is here: accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=blogger&hl=en-GB&passive=true&continue=https://www.blogger.com/blogin.g?blogspotURL%3Dhttp://wtspotguide.blogspot.com/2012/04/lagoon-bay-low-head.html%26zx%3Di5gchup547sg

Template
Spot Name: GPS location or google map screen cap would also be great!
Ideal for:
Winds: (list onshore direction first, then go around the other 3 cardinal points)
Directions:
Parking:
Rigging:
Facilities:
Currents:
Waves:
Tide:
Comments:

Thanks again to everyone.

Great project! Many thanks for undertaking it.
Is it possible to have an updating list of which locations you already have info for, to save people sending stuff you already have?

LOL thanks again guys.

I'm not 100% sure what i've whipped up for Lagoon Bay is correct guys, so if you've got something, or anything to add let me know - I guestimated a few things, so if you've got anything else, shoot! Eg. winds to fly across to Kelso etc?

Cardinal - sorry, I should have just used N, E, S & W ... (even if they are mad ...)
Perhaps I could have said, "other spots on the weather-vein" ?
Love your sense of humour though mate.

I have the old site Locations from nomadics, which once we get Pottsys ok, I'll put up...
BUT - they're more of a general spiel, they don't really fit the "talking to the local guy" template, so the nomadic stuff is really a useful start, not what we're after in its entirety.

The one's I have are: (ideally I still need someone to give me their "side of the story" for these)...

Arthur River
Back of Lighthouse
Bakers Beach
Bell Buoy
Bluff Beach
Bluff Reef
Cloudy Bay
Furries
Greens Beach
Musselroe Bay
Netleys
Policemans Point
Port Latta
Sandpits
Shellys
Stanley
Temma
Thunder Reef
Trial Harbour

I should have mentioned the list above is what I have from the old Nomadic site - but I still need you guys to give me an updated Spot Guide per the template we've done.

I'm updating the map with links to the 'sandbox' site as I go - so if its not 'live' then I'd love YOUR version please. Even if I do have a site covered, there's a good chance we all have tips about a site that someone else hasn't thought of it...
We have a few listed now - please have a read and provide some feedback - I'm not real good with proofreading!

Ant, is this blog going to be posted somewhere where everyone knows it can be found? Good info for newcomers but they need to know where to find it. I thought the entries for Georges Bay were particularly good.

I think it is one of the best things for newcomers and those new to the state.
looking great.

Thanks guys - I certainly don't mind taking the time (whilst it's a lot - I actually enjoy it) - but all those who supply their local knowledge are really to thank.
It's coming together forsure.

I'm in two minds now as to if we'll need to change how it's all set up.
The Google Maps Link: http://g.co/maps/ph775 will be a static address - so I guess we can link to it now.
It is google searchable, and the blogspot pages where all the content is, is also searchable, and its getting quite a lot of hits from around the world too.

Once we get it a little more complete (only 2 places in the south for example right now!) then I'll get it added as a separate Seabreeze Windsurfing Tasmania Sticky, and also get Windsurfing.org to add the Map link to that Tasmania Page.
Seabreeze forums are being upgraded, but for now, the forums can't handle embedded google maps - so only a link can be used...

And thanks Damo - linking from your site would be good. I plan on doing a Thanks/Credits page later on as well, so provide "back links" to your site.

Cheers guys

Ha! And to think just a few short days ago you guys were all like it's 'secret, secret...windsurfing business!!'...Seriously though think it's a brilliant idea, really good for visiting sailors especially, could save someone a lot of wasted driving hours/frustration if they're only visiting for a short time and help some newbies out. I'm pretty keen on looking at the area North of Launceston when I come down, can purchase property soon but due to work commitments would only be able to visit over the next few years, hopefully move down permanent in around four years...guess that'll give me some time to acclimatise.

Johnny once we've developed it a little further we can put it on the Windsurfing Tas site and Seabreeze.
Fos who is our WT elected website coordinator Damo and I are currently upgrading those sites so we'll wait till you're further down the track before we finalize the changes.
This is a good time to do this so it's all up and cranking for early next season when the newbies are ready to hit the water
My home Internet is down since the last rain but as soon as it's fixed I'll get back onto doing more windsurfing spots for you
If anyone has good photos on marrawah spots could you send them to me or Johnny
I have plenty of good pics of the southern spots
Also need pics of Bruny

Hey Guys,

I'm not giving up on this.

With a little help, we're slowly building this up. Everything back links to each other. Each GPS location links back to the map, or the guide page.

We still need more info on spots that the guru's own - *hint hint Izaak*

Anyway, I would really like some feedback, and someone to point out typo's, wrong directions, winds, etc - surely we didn't get it right the first attempt?
See above for those playing at home for the links.
Thanks
Johnny

Yep - spot on Ant, Use the Marion Bay one as the template to use, just added the Map coordinates on a separate line so people click it to load the map... which wasn't as obvious. I'll modify all the others to a separate line when I can.
Cheers guys.

Hey thanks guys.

I've just made a little change, by adding the GoogleMap at the top of the blogpages. Not sure if it's really going to work, but the link to take you to the full size is really what I was after... any thoughts? It's easy enough to remove/change... my creative limitations are coming through now. Speak up if you do or dont like it.

Also, something really cool...
If you have a google account, you can add this to your "My Places" and then use Google Earth on your mobile devices to see the spot guides.
By browsing direct to the Map - http://g.co/maps/ph775 - and clicking on "Save to My Places" at the top left of the page.
Then on all your devices (like iphone) you can open GoogleEarth App (NOT the maps app - you have to use Google Earth).
Click the Spanner to Sign in using your google account, and the Windsurfing Tassie Map will appear on your device, giving you access to all the information that I've put up on these sites.
All this information will be in your hands whereever you are....eg. Parked at the end of "blahblah" street and cant see any water, you can whip out your phone and find which road you should have gone down...
I can provide step by step instructions for those playing at home.

*disclaimer - personal data usages on your mobile phone account are your problem*

Hi Johhny,

The spot guide is looking great and I'm sure will grow into something quite big and lasting. Just wondering whether we can add to it our GPS Spot Records? These are can be found at the following forum link (www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Tasmania/GPS-Spot-Records-TAS/?page=1). WA have something similar (http://www.windsurfingwa.org.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57:wa-10sec-speed-table&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=29).

We could perhaps add more categories, such as 5x10 (maybe even everything)! I reckon having them toghether on the one page, rather than listed at the spot would be best, but perhaps it can be hyperlinked some way that it updates for the spot?

The current list is:
