I am glad you show an interest in this conversation Rod, now what length lines are you using???. So far we have converted many beginners to grinners with Anthony's Preaching..join the movement!!
And after the grotesque amounts consumed during Christmas lunch and diner there will be a lot of 'movements'. Albeit slightly different movements to Anthony's preaching, but still with a similar stench
OK out of the hidey hole. I use 28 in but with a seat harness. I think you should use what you find most comfortable. Has anyone thought of arm length? Someone 6 foot tall and built like a orang-utan will need longer lines than someone much shorter. Ant is right though, longer lines help but if you are happy with what you have why change? If you feel the need for speed you should talk to an expert, there are plenty around in the north and south, get their advice and follow it. And by the way, contrary to popular belief, Ant gave me some good tips from his recent trip that really worked. Thanks mate.
I tried 58" harness lines today. They are great. I don't need to wear a harness. I somersault over the boom trough the loop of the harness lines so I'm inside the lines. It is awesome! I'm still working on how to un hook for gybing.
Inches you duffs! and Kazz you should know how long 8inches is WTF!!, i.e your harness lines are not 20cm or your chin would be on the boom. Funny, windsurf boards are measured in cm. SUP and surf in inches/feet.
Also worth noting is there can be 2 inches in difference between manufacturers, you think they could get that right!! AND they should be spaced a hand width apart. I USE 40 inch lines but space them 2 foot apart
Making a few wild presumptions about the ladies Damo
Oh it's all a touchy subject this one. Actually the muscles in my forearms are continually sore this year, too much sailing, too longer harness lines or is it the new carbon boom? As for finger tips Fos, it's from clinging onto to your boom in fear....too much speed maybe? Old age?
I have just changed from 24 to 28 inch lines and find it remarkable . I no longer have any tingling in my forearms and my fingertips are free from pain. The forearm pump has gone completely. So i say a 26 inch member is very uncomfortable and causes too many catapults, especially when packing left or right. Sail safely and be protected
Yep, changed to 28" lines. It felt terrible the first few times on the water. I've stuck with them less forearm pump, and the shoulder agony I had with shorter lines is gone. I still catapult though. I don't think it my lines....just bad technique. I am hooking my lines gybing a bit , which results in a spekky crash. That's my contribution to entertaining spectators!
I thought with the latest Windsurf Magazine coming out it might be time to revisit an old favourite topic that generates many hours of heated debate and physical violence.

If you had the right length at Green Island you would have been on the podium......................... just think what could have been
Wow Ant sounds like you learnt heaps and progressed further. Last jumping clinic you came back using longer harness lines. This trip you've come back progressing to even longer ones. These clinics sound great if you want to learn those new lazy skills; like using longer harness lines. Maybe next trip you could ask them to give you tips on improving your sailing. Jumping Clinic - only advanced one handed moves require harness lines (still learning basic two handed jumps) CLINIC FAIL. Wave riding Clinic - Harness lines not required for wave riding(at least you can now sail out while still hooked in and not get catapulted) CLINIC FAIL.
That is such an uncool comment I learnt lots an lots and lots an lotz a ltz ........zzzzzz
Damo could you get me 32" lines three new RRD quads four new Ezzy sails two Ezzy masts new boom new...............I'll just ring Jem and ask him if I've missed something.... Ah an yes he just reminded me to get a new set of balls (Ezzy)
