No 30kts is when I'll need it.. Take 30kgs off a lot of the heavyweights kgs and you'd know what I mean!

I just rigged my 7mOD to specs.. I didn't downhaul it pulley to pulley as it looked like too much downhaul to me as it was?? Are they designed to rig with a really floppy leech?





Sorry mobile phone upload..I tightened one of the battens to remove the vertical creases but left the others as I figured I'd just sail as is for a few times then fix it??

Sue you have to get rid of that awful yellow uphaul !!! it ruins the colour scheme !!

Are you leaving all these wrinkles to match the windsurf demographics ?
Ask the shop where you bought it from to rig it for you?? A new sail should look better to me.

I like severne sails but the lack of specific rigging and tuning guides is hard to understand. Referring to the same 'no cam sail rigging guide' for s1pro, blade, gator and even ncx is just not good enough.

Needs loads more batten tension on all battens, downhaul looks ok, I found if you set the extension to the recommended the sail pulleys always ended up about where you have it. You could back of about a cm or so for light wind days.

the sail does tend to take a couple of times to settle in as well.

the tack strap should be around the bottom of the extension over where your downhaul wraps under that little ledge which is full of mud on yours. Really heave on it to give the sail a nice full bottom or let it of to loose some power

oh and just being ocd put the bottom of your up haul through the gap in the sleeve about 15cm up

Re Tack strap , Thanks. I knew it's use but didn't realise that's where it sits..I've washed the extension..

Thanks re uphaul.. there you go I've learnt a few things from this post..

I just noticed at the M2 pictures at the severne website, the boom has an outside tail just like the duotone platinum race ones. Strange, this doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in the enigma description.

Booms also got shorter on the overdrives, and luff a bit longer.

9.4 M2 overdrive seems to have significantly shorter boom (12cm) and slightly shorter luff too (2cm)

10cm shorter on most sizes for less back-hand pressure.

Exactly the same text as last year, give it a couple more years and I'm gonna need a shorter boom. The 8.6 is 6cm shorter boom and only 1cm longer luff. The 9.4 is 2cm longer luff and 12cm shorter luff (not shorter luff)

Sails stretch. A new sail will be less-than-spec'ed (or on-spec... depending on brand). Over time it will need a bit more downhaul - for some sails this will be up to 3-4cm.

That was rigged with an SDM mast. Cams were RDM though and a very tight fit! Have swapped the RDM cams for SDM's and was lucky enough to get out on that sail and the 5.5 today (unexpected wind)!

Both sails felt great. Used the 5.5 first and it had a heap of power (in photo below) and then the 6.2 which I did over 35 knots on (gpsteamchallenge.com.au/sailor_session/show?date=2018-12-29&team=27).

I've had OD's last few years, but the MACH2's felt super locked in and with some gusts over 30 knots, handle that wind well.

so, yes, M2 has shorter both luff and boom.

Sailed the 7.8 and then the 7.0 MACH2's yesterday and both felt powerful and locked in. A bit too windy for the 7.8 on the 139L (pictured) so after a few runs came back in and changed to the 7.0 on the 107, which felt perfect for the choppy conditions on the Derwent River.


That's four sails tested over three days - nice way to end 2018, knowing I've got some awesome sails for 2019!

I tried my 7m for the first time.I decided to rig it as they suggest..It felt really light and powerful! Only a few runs.
I also had a new boom and harness lines to get used to .The harness lines felt a bit weird but that may just have been not enough wind. I came back in and rigged larger.
Once I get the new combo sorted I'm going to love it.. The light and powerful sail will make gybing even easier. It rotated well out of the bag..

My 8.6 OverDrive M2 come in a few days, won't be out on it for a few months as the seas frozen ??

My R8 7.0m rotates like a dream with a lot of downhaul with my 460 Maui mast but when I drop the downhaul when the wind drops the rotation goes from around a 9 to only a 5.

When this happens I never come out fully planning as I stall the speed trying to get the cams over!

Let the downhaul off further for extra light wind performance and the bottom two cams sometimes come off whilst sailing.

All the spacers have been taken off this sail.

I have two R8 7metre sails and the other one has exactly the same problem only the spacers are not removed.

The cam rotation is not as good though the bottom two cams will only come off with less downhaul applied.

Im going to try my Maui 430 mast to see if this helps.

Some of the quoted weights are surprising.

Mach 2 6.2m is only 4.7kg - last years Mach 1 of the same size was 5.2kg.

My Overdrive M2 and Enigma boom turned up today
So the Enigma Boom is 100grams lighter than my Severne alloy race boom but this is probably down to the Enigma being 10cm shorter. But it is much prettier, shiny carbon rear end.

As for the sail M1 vs M2 8.6. Both the same weight give or take 20grams ( my scale aren't that accurate). You now get a Allen wrench tucked into the bottom of the luff sleeve, there's a bit more area below the boom and un fortunately the batten above the boom sticks out beyond the clew even more just waiting to be stuck into the ground and break. Then apart from the red xply for the top half of the luff it all looks about the same.

wont get to use it until April probably as we are having a very cold winter

oh and could someone send Severne some scissors, there threads hanging off it everywhere the stitching ends. Some could double up as tell tells

been wondering what's the purpose of the red rope at the top of the sail ?

Not the short loop used to hold it down with a screwdriver while derriging, the longer one.
