It's a shame , because I admire people who come up with ideas and put their money on the line .
Ill keep using my dumb , simple , solid Chinook that has never let me down . I can't think of any way of making it better .

I do: add a ratchet! For people who live in very gusty places, all the time up and down, and with less than ideal shores, going back to the beach is a pain (especially with a foil) so the Duotone power XT has been extremely handy. I envy those people who set the sail and don't touch outhaul/ downhaul unless they are changing sails!

I know you can change the outhaul setting in the water even with a regular extension, but when you start using the ratchet, you don't go back to a normal extension. Disclaimer: I use 8.5 m cambered sails down to 3.7 wave sails (for foiling). If I only used small sails I can see less of a benefit, but with big sails it is a no brainer.

For foiling I usually set the downhaul to minimum, most of the time, and just use outhaul for changing wind conditions within the sail range, and switch out the wing if the wind changes too much for the sail outhaul range. I have always avoided using a lot of downhaul to avoid stress on the mast, even though it is 100% carbon.

The need to change downhaul might depend on the sail? I adjusted the downhaul very little with my Hot Sails Maui, and with my current Point-7, ACX and SPY, I only adjust the outhaul, the down has pretty much one setting. Point-7 makes the point (sorry) of actually having "the one" setting for the down.

I have also the Noerstick RDM carbon 35cm extension.

And i have the same problem with the ropes... very very poor quality.
I am going to try Formulaline 3.8mm rope and hope the problem goes away because next to this problem the extension is a superb item.
It is light ,just as light as my old Severe Cyclops 24cm carbon and lighter then the 36cm cyclops, and it is stiff and strong but the best thing is the system that you dont have to set the right extended setting but you can just rig it and forget. It realy works very good and you can rig pretty fast.
I love it i really do.
Now just have to find the solution so the ropes wont get distroyed after a few sessions....
The biggest dissapointment of this all is that the owner Finn Noer doesnt reply when you have a problem and his communication is sub zero.
Not good... not good at all...

Hi, thanks for the comments.

But it would be great if you could provide some evidence that the Noerstick is 'just as light' as your Severne Cyclops 24cms - or lighter than the 36cms Cyclops.
This is technically not possible in a strength for weight contest - given the extrusion used and extra rope and pulleys in the Noerstick design.


I'd also love to see a video of you rigging the sail using the Noerstick, perhaps even beating the Cyclops video rigging time shown on the Severne site.
That would really help us all.

I can say that mine Norstick is 496gr on the scale.

Yep, as I mentioned with mine the rope broke the first time I rigged. I was kind of pissed, you expect a bit more from a $280 extension! I tried the formuline 3.8 but it was too wide to work. Only solution seemed to be a 3 mm braided rope instead of the one the extension came from (that has a core with poly cover) but I was not happy at the idea of using a 3 mm on a downhaul. So I sent it back. It took many e-mails to get a return label, and a couple more to get a refund after they received the item. They payed me back using paypal so I lost about 10% of the original cost.

Well i have the Formuline 3.8mm on it now and that fits great....
We will see how it holds though.
But i have to say that aside of the poor ropes (and the ring that cuts the rope in the first place) it is a very special piece of kit.

And i agree and reconyce that the service and support is very POOR

Can't he do exactly the same using some kind of screw around a big tube to make the ring move to get the adjustment instead of all of those ropes? Maybe the concept is innovative but the design has inertia for something that has more than 30 years. I would do a mix between a normal extension and add to it a rotating part that as rotates, fine tunes the ring distance.

A long time back there was an extension with was basically a bid screw and the ring was the nut, you you wound it up and down. Tough to do under load though

So... other option would be to use a "clicker ramp" like mechanism pedal operated. One press one slot up... down? Another problem :-)

That's strange, on my RDM the formuline was too wide to go through the pulleys. Maybe it is a revised version and they changed something to increase clearance.

I see this extension in action in Profitt's latest utube video.
