Standard X ply will be a touch heavier, spongier and more expensive. So Andrew's response is generally, Why would we??????

I would like to do a sample in a high tech scrim like ODL04. We might do so we can see what the weight save is. Way, way more expensive though so it would need to be a significant difference to justify it.

KA just get better and better every year. I just love the fact that an Australian brand is still going strong. Well done KA, If you have never tried one? give one a go

I used the Kult 5.8 PP sample yesterday in pretty average super gusty conditions varying from 15-25 knots. I was very impressed, great low end power yet remained stable and manageble when pretty overpowered.

Thanks for the comments Guy,s. Actually I am not a huge fan of the black and white, the Boss love's it though. I prefer something a bit louder.
Especially on Koncept we try to keep the sail as simple and clean as possible, it is after all a high performance race sail not a fashion statement so we try to avoid additional unneccessary seams just for the sake of the graphic. I do try to keep it looking sharp though within the scope of the design brief.

Aesthetic design is so subjective, some will love what you do others will hate it, so it is nice to hear some possitive reviews. Thanks

Sausage, We will have something on the website late this week, early next. Luff lengths the same, boom lengths 3cm or so longer. Sizing has gone back to 09 sizes, so 4.4,5.0,5.8,6.6,7.5,8.5,9.5, head has stayed narrow like 2010 for low drag and some area is added to the lower 1/2.

Martin, I quite like those sail sizes, does this mean other manufacturers are going back to those sizes because of upcoming PWA changes etc., or is it something that KA has just decided to do

Haggar, For 2010 we removed some area in the head (made it narrower) to reduce drag and reduced the boom lengths by increasing the clew cutaway. This took the overall sail area down a bit from 2009, for example the 6.6 dropped to 6.4. The sails definitely got slipperier as a result but the comments coming back from the Team, especially the speed guy's, myself included, was that the back hand feedback had maybe got a touch too light. We were finding that with this really light back hand it could sometimes be easy to oversheet when running really broad on a speed run and stall the sail a bit.
Jesper also felt that in the larger sizes sailing in really light conditions a bit more tug from the back hand would make it easier to drive off the fin.
What we have done is lengthen the boom just a tad to generate a wee bit more pull from the back hand. As a result some area was added up the leech fading out about half way and the overall sail areas came back up to what they were in 2009.

I am running the 2009 Koyote6.6 and for my sailing style it works very well.

The new Koyote looks a bit sharper which I assume will result in a more positive fell for the rider.

I will definately be ordering a 5.5 if that will be one of the new sizes to add to the 2009.

Hi Walt, Koyote is a gem and I will have a couple in my quiver this season for seabreeze cruising on the Bay. Sizes are unchanged so your smaller options are 5.9 or 5.3. They can handle more wind than a wave sail in the equivalent size, the 5.3 can cope with seriously strong winds, so bear that in mind when deciding how small you want to go.

I like the fact they have gone back to 6.6 and 5.8. Replacing a couple of 09's so great to replace with the same size. If anything like my 2010 7.3 i am hanging to get them.

My dilemma is whether to replace my ageing 5.8 (KA Karve, 2002?) with a new 5.8 Kult. I have budgeted this year to either replace the 5.8, or make the move to a rdm mast. Would the Kult rig ok on my oldish North Sting drop shape 30% sdm? - my 6.4 Kult from a couple of years ago rigs ok on it (apart from a bit tight in the mast sleeve).
Also, it's mentioned that "heavier riders" would enjoy the new Kults - I'm not heavy so would I find it too powerful?

Hi Easty, Without measuringyour mast I would only be speculating on it's suitability for a 2011 Kult. I checked out the peterman.dk site and he had 2 North stings measured. One was 14.2 % bend curve and the other 16% bend curve. If it is 14.2 it is OK but 16% is sretching the friendship.
It might be worth you going to the trouble of measuring it, pretty easy. If you PM me I can explain how to do it.

Now the Kult is fairly powerful but not what I would call a big guy only sail. It has a fair bit of seam shaping down low and a bit more luff curve than a Wave sail. This means it is pretty tunable, you can set it up really grunty but it does respond really well to a lot of downhaul so you can depower it really well. It also has pretty good draft stability so you can sail it overpowered.
Where it differs from a real Wave sail ( like Kaos) is that due to the preshape and luff curve it holds power through the transitions and never goes completely neutral.
It is designed as Bump and Jump all rounder ,not a Wave sail, but some big guy,s like it for Wave sailing as it has lot,s of grunt on tap and they are storng enough to throw it around easily.
I love it for Bay blasting which is exactly what it is made for.

Thanks for that - I remembered there was a thread on measuring mast bend a while ago, so used the search thingo and hey presto, found it. (thanks Not Wal)
