Saw a dead 1.4 metre Bull shark caught in the net of the swimming enclosure at Redland Bay. It was trying to get out. Are we safe anywhere?????

Don't worry about it! Our sharks hardly ever eat british people, they prefer Americans!

How easy is to differentiate between sharks and dolphin fins? Or can be misinterpreted?
I see many fins quite often jumping of swimming in Shearwater- hope all belongs to dolphins.

sharks have a more sharp triangular fin, dolphins are curved. u can tell them apart , with a bit of time and familiarity, check out some pictures online.

sharks tends to swim along the top of the water more, - like in a straight run... dolphins wont - they just pop up then pop down again, in a semi circle / arc direction.

good to hear all the shark sighting stories - i sail at vic point area, I want to avoid sharks , and for my family too . i spoke with the ferry drives at choochie and they said the have seen bull sharks jump out of the water, in the channel area. So I dont sail out that way :)

lucky we aren't in the water as much, like surfers... which i use to do ...

caught 3 sharks on the weekend at Woody Head Iluka, only pups, but all within the main swimming area! ! thresher, 1 wobbegong 1 x school shark, thats 5 now in 2 trips at the same spot. Biggest was like 800mm long, my question 5 different sharks in the same area, what else is there! It was only 3 m off the shore as well! Where is mum and dad?

Yes. Sharks are in the oceans and in estuaries, rivers and bays. You are not the primary diet of these fish. Are you looking for reasons to not sail?
Simple rules..avoid being in water at dusk and dawn- when you have your period (it would seem frequently for some of you).
STOP WATCHING JAWS!

Oh by the way I better add all were safely returned to the water

i sail in the chanell area i'll have to master those gybes

Been sailing Vic Pt (Thompson's Beach) area for years and years and never seen a shark, but if I did there'd also be a big shart!!
But I suppose with someone who has run into a half submerged wooden boat there, maybe my eyes aren't that good.........

Hit one once in my tinnie (aluminium boat). In a Gold Coast canal driving along where we usually skurfed (water-ski on a surfboard) at rapid pace when ****ING BANG!!! The outboard ripped off its hinges and came into the boat, still running.

The rest of the gang drove around for a bit looking for a log. We never found anything. Shark is the most likely suspect.

I heard that a surfer got interviewed recently and when asked what it feels like to see a shark in the water he replied - it is like when you were a kid and had spent a good part of the night worrying that there was a monster under your bed. Then when you finally got the courage to take a look there really was a monster there.

Could really relate to that...

Yeah - those amphibious sharks.. worst nightmare.
