Sailing report from elanda point- yesterday I had my first real ride on the jp with the 5.6 overdrive, after some frustrating rides ant constant tuning I managed to trim the board and sail to work together. I'm as happy as a dog with two tails! Finally got the thing to feel like I had some sort of control over what was happening and it was all happening fast. once that happened the speed was enjoyable. Today was 8.2 and cruising on the big Thommen, easy peasy. Only five more days left here, oh well.......

Ok Sandstoners, BOM model is showing a bit of a NE sea breeze this arvo, maybe Turner's after lunch?

Adam and myself noticed the breeze had come up just after lunch so went to Turners. It was the busiest I've ever seen it, the joint was packed. We were the only sailors and the wind soon had them all scurrying. Good solid 15kn gusty sea breeze from the NE. We were overpowered in the gusts with both of us using 7.8 sails but it was good to have the bit of size in the holes. Jeff had a little nap after eating his pie so was a late starter and missed the good wind but should still have had a good sail. Adam is back on form now after ditching the weed fin on his Naish and using a 52cm slalom fin, it made a massive difference. Good planing runs from the moorings near Kal ma Kuta park right the way up to the old oyster racks past Ningi Creek today, fun as!

Well that was insane!!! Buggered after 2 short planing runs. You know it's too windy when...,

You can't get the board down to the waters edge without being blown over

I stayed on the beach, the windline was halfway across the lake offshore and didnt want to risk dogging out and having to dog back on 100 litre board or even the big thommen - ist day off the water for yonks so cant complain.

I should be over this bug by then so I am hoping I can get out for a sail. Need to get back out on the water already, still need to try out my new sails.

I am out on Saturday with family commitments but am aiming to go out on Sunday. So happy to head up to sandstone. :)

I,m not able to do Sunday with work but will be at turners camp sat till about 2 when work calls again. However shift work has its bonuses. Got last Monday s northerly in at wello between shifts. And yes Pete, someone had to do the hard work. Finally proved l cracked the 30 knts on the trusty 20 year old JV and the $100 blue bullet pre millenium wind action. Who needs the latest tech . Whoops l did... A GPS to prove it.. And yes .. Buying a 2015 KA 6.2 so l can see through my sail and what's on the downwind side before l crack 60 k or my ribs and fin box.

Well Adam stuck to his guns with the forecast and picked it like a dirty nose. I thought it'd be no good, but there was 15-20+kn of gusty NE at Turners Camp today with the roughest chop I've experienced yet in the passage. Long, planing runs trying to dodge the holes and the bomb gusts from Turners right down to the middle of the passage out the front of Spinnaker Sound Marina with 1m waves in the middle of the passage. Johnno was out on a 7m sail when I got there and all 60kg of him looked out of control but he was hanging in there and flying. Adam, Stevie and myself all rigged 6.1m sails and I didn't pull mine down too hard to try and get it to go through the holes a bit better. Pope John was flying solo over the other side running between Pac Harbour and Toorbul across the flats. Great lunchtime session for myself and Adam as advancing learners, very testing indeed.

Got it up to over 65 kg with a long (wet) tie paddles. And a bottle of water. But keep burning it off uncontrollably. Anyone got a weight belt for sail. Or do l just OD iron supplements. Have Wednesday off so for now l,LL just be there with
BELLS ON wed arvo clinging to the 7 trying to hold down the floaty wide JP in that chop. Found the nice flat run up the creek entry worth having big sail up for though. So don,t be alarmed by the bell dings when u turn up later. Its not a shark alarm or mister whippy on water.

That was great. Nice sail at turners camp. Finally out on a sail bigger than a handkerchief.

8.5 on superlight wind. Caught last of afternoon breeze. Pope john looked good sailing on the other side. Jelly blubberes nearly catapulted me as I got going. Worried I was going to rip the fin out

It's breezy here at Beachmere at the moment but I'll probably give it a miss till Sunday arvo now. Northerly wind forecast is looking ok for Turner's Camp low tide sailing off the sand spit tomorrow afternoon if anyone's keen.

Sunday:- Enjoyable afternoon after work sail at turners camp. Wind seemed good but forecast had it declining Bribie John looked good on other side with Ezzy 7.5. Decided to rig 8.5 and as a bit of fun try the Exocet 124 sting with 46 fin in what was now obviously dying wind.

Slogged around but did manage to pump it onto plane for a very nice run into ningi creek flat water. Both feet in the straps.

Couldn't uphaul it and managed a lucky water start. Decided I didn't want to get stuck. So big sails on small boards I need guaranteed starts or turnarounds.

Slogged back and put the 8.5 on the JP SLW and had a few enjoyable runs as the wind completely dropped!! Much easier time on the big board
