Just a short word to let you know we just made an update on www.sportstracklive.com and you can now directly upload your SBP files from the GW-60 on our (free) platform.

We already included the feature for auto-split tracks if there is a delay of 60' of non activity detected from the track.

Couple of quick questions I have from a distance session yesterday.

Firstly if a GW60 (and GW52 for that matter) have their battery run flat during a session and shut down will the session data up to that shutdown point be saved and able to be downloaded?

The 2nd query is with my GW60 the battery was down to no bars and just showing the battery outline. Often with electronic devices the battery icon will start to flash before the device will shut down, is this the case with the watch?

Reason I ask is as I wasn't sure I shut the watch down early to ensure I had some saved data, it'd be a real bummer to put all that effort in only to find you have nothing to upload.

I've had a GW60 go flat, but didn't notice the battery outline flashing, and I'm not sure how long after the last bar disappeared it happened. So not much help there I'm afraid.

I now carry a spare cable in the car so I can charge up after during a break.

what is best logging settings to use for flat water sailboarding
option are - 1hz or 5 hz , or smart ?
and any other settings that i should have in there?

DO NOT USE SMART!!!!! It confuses some software, especially in Alphas. 5hz is the most accurate, especially for short times and alphas.
1hz can be used for distance, but unless you recharge the battery several times, you'll run out of power before you run out of memory.
If you're on a trip and unable to download your data, then 1hz will allow you to record more sessions.

Apart from that it depends what you are doing.
Are you in a GTC team?
If so it can tell you, the 2s, 5x10, alpha and distance. It can't do nautical miles or hours, but has got a timer you can set to an hour.

The Max speed function is usually overstated, typically by about 0.5kts so I don't set up for that.

The locosys website has a manual that explains how to set up for what you want to see.

I'd guess at 1/4hr, mine was down to 2 bars at lunch time, 3/4hr charge had it back up to 3 bars. But I have a feeling some car chargers are faster than others. A bit of research may be able to improve that.

The comparison between the Canmore and the GW60 is chalk and cheese. The Canmore is cheap and you get what you pay for, a somewhat accurate, basic GPS that provides very limited feedback when sailing. The GW60 is very accurate, is waterproof, can be configured to give you real time feedback for the session best and last run results for max speed, 2sec, 5x10, alphas, 500m and distance, while sailing. If looked after (rinse in tap water after sailing and store safely) it will provide reliable use. It has enough battery life to record up to a 150km session which is long enough for me. If I'm mad enough to do more, then I'll use my GT31. I've had trouble free operation for over a year. Connecting the watch to the utility on your computer was an issue initially for me, but subsequently solved by rinsing the watch terminals in tap water and drying before connecting the USB cable. No GPS unit is perfect, but the GW60 ticks most boxes, including most importantly for me that it is GPSTC compliant, waterproof and provides real time feedback

I hear ya. Im not breaking or getting near any records and while on the water the sailing is distraction enough. Im sure that the Canmore would give me a 150km session on the initial charge, if i could hang in there that long.
Getting what you pay for? not sure if the watch is that reliable (internal tech is fine). A $350 windsurfing device should be able to handle the conditions more reliably. Having said that the canmore isn't water proof and wasn't designed for windsurfing but for me its very adequate for now.
The second gen will be on my radar if I'm fast/far enough.

I measured the charging current on the GW-60 a bunch of times, and it always was around 0.08-0.09 A when the battery was nearly empty, less when it's close to full. Pretty much any USB charger supports at least 0.5 A, most go to 1 A, so a different charger won't make a difference for the watch. That's different to some phones, which can be charged at 2 A.

It may have been covered before. Could someone with a GW60 please post the current setting they use. I do understand that it depends what min/ max speeds through gybes/ upwind down wind speeds etc. But I would just like a starting point that I can adjust to my slow speeds.

Thanks for that. My GW60 should be arriving in the next couple of days.

Anyone got any idea's as my watch suddenly won't do anything when pushing any buttons, charges and shows time only.

I think the thing to try here is turn off and reboot. Trouble is to turn it off you need the old GW52 utility.
Reinstalling the firmware may also work.

Exactly the same symptoms as on mine GPS. I was advised to upgrade firmware to latest 1.3 but that not possible.
So my only option was to send the device to my dealer to have a look at this. From time only watch, my device quickly progressed to not responding at all, although light still works for a while when plugging into the charger.

The GW60 can be reset, with the old gw52 utility, it has a "power off" button that works on the GW60. This will fix a "crash" problem.

Im turned off the watch now. Or am I being too picky?

This one is hard to call, I've had no problems with my watch, but I look after it.
I don't press buttons if they are wet or stress the strap more than necessary to fasten it.

It appears there is also a small number of people trying to put the GW60 down, how much of this is due to false or exaggerated claims is impossible to say.
So sorry I can give no assurances either way.

The GT31 certainly didn't have as many complaints, as far as I remember. The main problem with them was the USB connection, the pins either lost pressure or suffered from corrosion. Earlier firmware would crash every so often, and unplugging the battery was required to reset it.

The GW52's touch screen was problematic, and it was dampness sensitive.

Keeping everything dry was the main way to avoid problems, and it seems that continues.
