John the level is good you can still sail along the spit, middle lake is ok but not super flat yet but then my ok to most people is flat. behind the islands is looking the goods though.
weed is still growing but not a problem getting in and out.

Is the event open to speed kiters? Any speed kiters listening in on this forum? (There's no specific thread for speed kiters unfortunately) Is it a good venue for speed kiters?

Moving to Sydney in Jan and obviously there's nowhere to speed kite around there so desperate to find some venues and events in Oz to hopefully keep upping my gps rankings.

Any info or advice greatly appreciated.

its not a bad drive down the hume hwy

Lake George GPS Event 2013

Event Description / Notice of Race

The Lake George GPS Event is a speedsailing event organised by Windsurfing SA that starts January 1, 2013 and ends March 31, 2013.

Lake George provided outstanding conditions for speed sailing in early 2012, and there is much anticipation about the speeds that can be achieved there this coming summer. The open time frame of the event will allow you to chase the optimum conditions to achieve the best speeds.

A current Windsurfing SA membership (or similar interstate membership) is required to compete.

Winners will be announced in each of the 6 GPSTC categories.

Max 2 second speed
5 x 10 second average
Nautical mile
500 m alpha racing (50 m)
1 hour
Total distance (within a single calender day)

Race venue
Lake George, Beachport, South Australia. Sessions can only be posted using data from middle lake and the main lake.

GPS Units and Data Analysis
Speed measurements must be made with Locosys Navi GT-31/GT-11 GPS units using Doppler mode, and posted within 10 days. To ensure uniform analysis parameters, tracks must be uploaded to http://www.ka72.com/, and the calculated speed results posted to the event on GP3S . All results must be posted by March 31, 2013, 8 pm South Australian time (GMT+10:30).

Safety
Speedsailing can be dangerous, you enter this event at your own risk.

In participating, you agree that safety of yourself and others on the lake is of paramount importance, and that you will always render assistance to anyone needing help.

quick question...

Im not a current paid up member of my states windsurfing association and Im definitely coming over to sail. Windsurfing VIC renews their membership in July so Im struggling to see the value in joining and only getting the benefit of 6 months membership. I competed at lake George at an Onboard run event in 2006 and paid for a SA membership at a reduced price? or maybe just to cover me for event?

So I guess the point is ... can something be organised by windsurfing SA or other states to cover the event? There's is no way that I will will any of the prizes for win a division so why should I enter? Have you considered some random prizes so that hacks like myself will be encouraged to participate?

Just some food for thought...

If there is an 'event' category in GPSSS and we use auto upload from GPS-Results or GPSAR-pro, why would we need to upload tracks to KA-72 as well?

Also, we do not need state association membership to post on GPSSS or GPSTC. Why would we need it for this?

Windsurfing SA is the organising body for this event, because as a sporting association, it covers itself with public liability insurance.

GPS Speed Sailing is dangerous (as is wave and slalom sailing) - it is wise for the organising body to be structured this way.

The benefit of this is that with everyone at an event covered there is no risk that gaps can suddenly appear in the cover if a claim is made.

This insurance cover for an individual comes with their state association membership.

It is also a good thing to be supporting your state windsurfing association.

So yes we do require each entrant to be a current financial member of Windsurfing SA, or their own state's windsurfing association.

No discounted half-year memberships...sorry Red.

In regards to State membership requirments, does being a paid up member of Inverloch Windsurf Club count as we are aligned with Yatching Victoria? We have personal accident insurance through them.

You are far more qualified to comment on the subject than me and since WSSA has also given the ok I will update the speel on the Event site to allow auto uploads. Ironically, I was able to auto-upload tonight for the first time in a year or so, I hadn't updated the GP3S password in the upload popup

I am going to add a sponsor page to the blog when all the prizes etc. are finalised. GP3S ask for a fee on their site if sponsors are promoted and I am looking into the costs involved there.

The differences between different software analysis programs are virtually non-existent. I sometimes see very minor differences but they are usually related to settings. With the same settings, the different programs invariably give the same results.

Plenty of sailors at LG this weekend. Figures will not be outstanding though. The weed is still too short and sparse so the water is not as flat as when the good speeds were done last year. Might get some nice speed runs behind the spit though.

It looks like the lake may not be ideal until mid February or even later.

Approx 20-30 minute drive from the lake (depending on how much pain you are in).

They have an after hours service, so ring when you start driving to give them notice. Hopefully this will not be required by anyone...
