I have some long service leave due so it may now be feasible to get to Lake George in 2024 for a reasonable period of time.
How does February compare to March? Wind, water level, accommodation availability, number of other windsurfers there?
If I could get there for three weeks what would be the optimal time?

Anita I plan to be there in Feb, no idea re water level etc but I've been a few times and it's always been a great experience. One trip I spent a few days there in March, conditions were good but way too cold for me.

Too cold... its was bloody tropical!!

Statistically the best wind is in february, but it is also the most crowded and around the lake the parking spots are limited. Bring your winter wetsuit and clothes, it will not always be cold, but it can be freezing when the wind really blows. Also needed is insect repellent for march flies and the worst the sandflies , they can give you a lasting terrible itch. If you stay 3 weeks it is almost guaranteed that you will have a few epic days. Most windsurfers stay at the Southern Ocean Tourist park, but there is also another caravan park more exposed to the winds. Some teams rent a house.
Talk to Dezza and Sue (sboardcrazy) i am sure they can give you more hints from a woman's perspective.

February is traditionally the busiest month. It's fun catching up with old friends from all over the Australian GPS community during this time.

The wind is still very good in March but sometimes the water level can get a bit low. The levels in the lake were reported as high a month ago, so maybe water levels in March won't be a problem.

In the end it really doesn't matter when you come, if you can come for at least 3 weeks, you'll have a great time.

Just get yourself down there, and you will fall in love
The locals are a lovley bunch of people, as for all of us wind junkies, well we all scrub up not too bad as well .
Accommodation caravan Park. Search the web for housing, usually it's booked in advanced. Otherwise call the realeaste down Beachport or even Robe to help you out.
Many memorable moments. Just watch out for the Roo's.

Thats great, but be aware that the town and caravan Parks will be very crowded. It is likely that here will not be many other sailors there then either (apart from a couple of locals and day trippers from SA), the lake may still be a little bit high for best conditions, but the winds are often at their best (strongest) in January. I am planning to do strike missions at that time on good forecasts so I hope to see you there.

SQ, I'm gunna take what ever comes my way. Less sailors means more lake for me ????. So friggn stoked to be going, so, no matter what happens, I will be smiling ??

Is it a full on wet suit wearing time of the year guys. Firie will attest to, we only wear boardies , year round up here. So, when passing through Brisbane, do I need to pick up some rubber ??

You will need a wetsuit. Temperatures are mlld for down here, but considerably lower than what you are accustomed too. The wind chill factor dictates I usually wear a 3/2mm or 2mm steamer, like pretty much everyone else. If you have to wade through the weed, it's nice to have long leg suit. Keeps the sunburn at bay as well.

Long neoprene legs also protect your shins from cuts from kicking the back of the delta fin when water starting in thick weed or snot grass

I usually go in February but I take my thick winter wettie ( 5-4-3 mm ) as well as it can be pretty cold some days especially if it's a W.
If you don't want to buy a thick wettie maybe 2 cheapies or rashies under ( although I've tried that and still froze).

spray jacket over wetty is the go, keeps the wind off the wet wetsuit, almost stops the chill factor.

See you there mate. Can't do Feb or Mar due to work. Yes, the less sailors means you get to rig on that little green spot of weed that somebody would park on in Feb.

Somebody once told me QLD sailors rig on grass. Is that true ?

We are currently in Torquay , on our way to Beachport, for the next 4 nights. Dipped our toes in the ocean during a walk last evening, and if the water temp here is anything to go by, I might duck up the road and see if I can get a dry suit ??????. Mien Gott. Even the locals had wetties on on for a casual swim ????.

Billy shallow lake water not as cold as open ocean, I only use a spring rubber in Feb unless it's raining, then it's coffee and cake with my Child Bride
