Tried to find some info on first day results and found some on the Loft Sails forum and GPSS.....speed world cup site has no info at this stage,big congrats must go to first time competitor Loft sails rider Dirk Jan Knol for finishing top in one heat ahead of Antoine and Valerie top in the womens!!

First heat Silverfleet.
Dirk Jan and my self started in the silverfleet.
I start with myself becuase it's a short story.
First heat, I did 2 runs of 35 knots, going upwind someone suddenly gybed in front of me and I could not prevent a collision.
My boom broke in several pieces, end of heat and the orther heats I did not recover from this crash.

Because this was Dirk Jan' s firts major event ( Monty offered DJ a wild card.) the first heat he was still a little nervous and took 6th place.
Totally differtent the next heat, Dirk Jan took 1st place and moved up to the gold fleet.

The heat in the gold fleet DIrk Jan delivered !!!!!
Dirk Jan made a run of 40 knots.
It took some time before A. Albeau also made a run of 40 knots and at that moment Albeaus took the lead.
Dirk Jan went out again and put down a tremendous run of 40.5 knots .
No one could match this result and Dirk Jan won this heat !!!!

So not all the know names but Dirk Jan in his first WC event.

He and his Blade 6.2 were on fire.

The last heat of the day was a full fleet heat and very crowded on the course.
DJ took 10th place in this heat.

Very good relsut for the first day at the WC.

From now on DJ is not longer onknown an will be watched and seen als a man to be aware off.

Difficult day for the first day of the world championships. Some great runs by some guys, and plenty of frustration for others including myself. The wind was different today than for the Greek championships earlier in the week, and it took me all day for that to click. I made the mistake of taking the lines that were working in the last contest. But today there was a lot less wind, especially near the beach. I blew up my arms after the first 2 runs of the first heat due to borrowing a new harness that didnt fit properly (my old one is tearing apart). The hook ended up too high for my line settings so I used my arms way too much. Also the 7m was a bit too big in the gusts. End result was rock hard forearms and no ability to hold on in the gusts. By the 3rd round the arms were going down so I was able to make a lot of runs. But none of them were very sucessful being completely underpowered and unable to break a cycle of 36.0s on the timing board- I must have done close to 10 in a row! The last 2 runs just before the course closed were a bit faster... but nothing special. Congrats to all the guys that were flying today!

What a day for dutch speedsurfing. Mixed feelings for me, normally i would be happy to sail top 10 on a world cup speed, but with 5 other dutch guys in front of me it feels like becomming 6th on a usm.....
Offcourse it is a big lottery with the gusts and free runs here in Karpathos, but finally after 5 days the best windsurfer will win for sure. Even Bjorn Dunkerbeck finished around 15th the first heat, totally lost. Or doing well but not well enough.
Some big surprises today, Hans was leading the first half of the first heat and Dirk was doing only 2 runs in the second goldfleet heat and won. Nobody was able to get him anymore even not after doing 20 runs. The top guys were thinking who the **** are these guys....we know better.
Maybe not so smart to change equipment one week before such an event, but afterwards it is easy talking. Albeau was peaking 45 knots with exactly the same equipment but he or Finian is leading the event so i have to blame my self only.
Looking forward for the next days and i hope i can improve, but i feel broken like everybody

Only 1 good run in todays lottery. Not enough for an impressive result. Heat no 1, I only needed one more good time to make the top 10 but the wind played tricks on me.
Heat no 2 seemed promishing but something happened in the end and I was pushed back in the ranking.
Heat no 3 was a total disaster. I did 11 runs but the score was so miserable! The worst thing is that still I have not figured out what went wrong. Maybe it was fatigue. This year, top 10 is a very hard task

what a day for the dutch crew.

First heat i was using a new combi 7,0 with the 54wide and a 27fin
was a good decision after 30minutes i was in the lead it was awesome to hear Hans kreisel first place repeat first place a new guy from holland thought i was dreaming NOTTTTT but after that Finian and Antoine and Benny got back at me.

Second heat was really bad started off with some huge crashes on my missile xs and could not get my setup to work and had some trouble on the course so rerigged only didn't have time to make up.

Heat 3 took the 7,0 again only was really crowded because a full fleet was out but still got a 6t position so had a really nice start and i'm very happy

Respect to Dirk in heat 2 he got some nice gusts and was able to lock it all the way well done now there are 6 dutchies in the gold fleet

Whats interesting about the event is that it's great to see the regular GPSS sailors all doing so well.It goes to show that GPSS GPSTC comps really do help everyone in regards to fine tuning their gear to world class standards and being able to compete against the full time pros.

What is also interesting is Bjorn's new Severnes. Seems like the protos are copying the Prydes with the luff pocket much narrower at the top and a bigger clew cut out.

Any ideas as to why the official site has so little information on what is happening?

Does anyone know if Finian is using his old F2 speed boards(I have heard that he made them, not Patrick) or does he have some RRD protos?

Chris may have an interesting story on that. My understanding was that after trying Chris' CA at last years event (and I think using his CA50 in the last heat(s?) Finian got himself a brace of CAs from James Dinnis.... but not to ride.

My bet is he will be on custom RRDs but they may have some similar rockers/outlines to the CAs. Though Finian has been doing this so long I'm sure his shaper(s) know exactly what works for him.

Day 4
Chris managed to pick up another 4 points on 5th place yesterday's only round only needs another 4 to jump a position.

And what a bun fight for the place behind Chris. There are 7 riders in with a chance (at least).

EDIT: Just looked at the windguru forecast for Karpathos...Not Good. The above results may be the final ones as today is the last day and prize giving is not long after lunch.

Another frustrating round. Was in 3rd for a lot of it with a string of 36s until a gust came through right at the end- I rode the start of it but ran past it and out of wind at the end. Then I watched 6 or 7 guys get it all the way and get 37s, knocking me down to 9th. Spewing. I went on a mission but didnt get any good gusts except for an OK one which gave me my equal fastest run despite having to sail around the guy in front of me who lost it on the run. In conditions where you lose 2 places for 5cm (like yesterday) its important to get a clean run. I was lucky enough to get a small puff half way through one of my last runs. I was powered up for a few seconds and it was enough to claw back to 6th place for the round. Jacques came through just behind me in the big gust - looks like it was your turn this round :) Hoping for another round tomorrow- only 4 points away from knocking Hans (blue steel) out of his 5th place perch... haha All runs here from the race. Did some late in the day but the wind was a lot lighter so speeds heaps lower.

Small fine tuning can make the difference. Finally a top 3 result in between the big guys........ I hope for another race tomorrow, if the luck is on my side i can try to work my way up to place 7 overall.
I need a simular race than today and the 5 guys in front of me aswell.......Everything is possible.
