Well said Kelly. All this and sailing with the guys today has got me thinking about switching teams - my distance would have contributed to MBM today....

I still think a "virtual" ladies team would be cool. It wouldn't worry me if it didn't happen as I love the GPCTC as it is.

Be nice to have a Lady on the team, Mark comes pretty close though just need to put a skirt on him oh there always Mikey too

A national team was never meant to be compulsory. Those who want to stay in their own teams can. It would just provide another option for those who want to join a women's team. There is little use starting a state women's team because there aren't enough people to make it work and we would find ourselves in the same situation as Boardcrazy girls or Divas. At least if there was a team where anyone in Australia could join (or perhaps the world??), the chances of two women sailing on the one day would be much greater.

Only problem is that it could be seen to be cheating because you would have the best of the wind conditions in each state. However, I not sure that anyone would care since we would be unlikely to win anyway.

I agree Cheryl. It is what I said earlier today. A women's national team would not be compulsory. But those who are keen (?3 so far) could join and perhaps some more.

Looks like BCG will be down to only 1 anyway, so I will need a new team!

A national team is easy, it's no trouble at all.

Just make a new team, set the state to "Other" and bob's yer uncle.

The virtual team idea (where you're a member of more than one team) is more problematic

hi fellow lady sailborders thinking of joining the challenge but unsure about how to go about the technology side of things, similar story as Sharon after a 10 year break. Regular Manly and Wynnum sailor and would be happy to add to the board crazy girls as there looks like an opening with Jo Sterling busy, or the Morton Bay Mob offered a look in. Sharon, if u would like another female during the week to keep motivated I`m usually not far away especially if it`s windy!

PS- team captain should be "Sheila" of course.

I've only just joined the Pinnas, nevertheless I like them and I'd like to stay with them. So not interested in the ladies team if it's a choice.

So the question to the ladies out there, to really determine if this idea is feasible, needs to be who is prepared to leave their current team to be a member of the Australian ladies team?

I'd only join a "virtual" women's team - sorry. I think there is a lot of value in physically sailing with your team.

Being a web developer myself, I understand the implications of making a virtual team - it's a big job requiring changes to the database structure. It's a big ask...

OK guess that could work, but it will be a bit hard for people in different states to get coordinated.

I'm still not interested in leaving my team. Should it be called an Australian Womens team if all the present rated top women sailors are not in the team?

That's not a bad idea Anne although wouldn't you need a different nickname as this may create some programming issues i.e. if you logged under the same name twice (even though in different teams)

Maybe just add a numeral to the end of your log in name to distinguish them both - e.g. so Sheila who sails for Team X just becomes Sheila1 for women's team Y

Lets just call it a borderless team. That way it doesn't sound like only the best are in it.

As for a name, I will have to think about it. I'm not sure about Sheilas. Sailfish is OK.

From a website perspective this is definitely not the right way to do things. I guarantee that after a couple of weeks people will just use one login instead of logging out, relogging in, and entering their data again.

Besides which, two 'people' will appear in the individual rankings with equal scores, it will create more headaches for me than making a virtual team.

I'm reluctant to do the virtual thing for a couple of reasons, one of which is technical -- the entire system is set up so that you can only be in one team. It would require lots of programming time for me to set this up...
The other reason is psychological. If we started allowing people to bat for more than one team, then I imagine that we would rapidly get the situation where fast sailors would be pressured into joining more and more teams so that their scores counted for other teams.

I really think that the best way to go forward is for a national team to be created, and anyone who wants to be in that team can leave their current team and join the national one. From experience, the camaraderie on the beach won't change -- no matter where I go sailing anyone who's in the GTC will come up and have a good yarn, especially those people from teams that I used to be part of.
