I am finding that when I save the data logger files to the SD card, the SBP files contain rubbish, ie the date of all the track points is 30-12-1899 at 10:00. This was working for me a few months ago, other then updating firmware, I dont recall changing any settings. The SD card and tracks are fine. If I have a problem with the card, I want the data logger to contain valid data. I updated to the latest firmware but this made no difference. Anybody have any ideas Realspeed version is 1.917

Haggar, just checked mine for this month, working fine. (thank goodness) Only thing I can recommend is check you time and date setting. I recall something early in program that this had to be set right, otherwise it gets confused and puts up jargon like your getting.
Hopefully Decrepit will see this and give you an answer, as he is a bit of a guru on the GT11's.

Haggar thats pretty old firmware your running i would update.
I know there was a prob with dates a while back with a particular version.

Haggar, I recall now what caused the problem. If the unit was turned off and back on during a session, and you started sailing before it recognised what location and time it was at, the file would come up with dribble time and dates.
This was an issue when two people sharing a GPS. The fix was to turn the recording off then back on to enable a second user.

Vando, the version is the latest V1.2(B1218T), I think your confusing the Realspeed version.

Mineral, what I do is turn the GPS on wait until all the sats register, then just before I sail, I turn the unit off and back on again, and again make sure that all the sats register again. Do you think I'm not waiting long enough ?? Becuase the SD file is fine, I'm thinking the prob is data logger specific.

Ah ha, yes, that's whats causing it
The reason I know is I shared a GPS with one of my team mates and we did same thing
Just curious as to why you would turn it off and then back on?
If your chasing legit data only, set it to record only above 3-5 knots and that will sort issue I think.
Unless of course, I am missing something that some of the teams gaining by doing what you lads are?

I turn mine off and then on again if my last session wasn't at that sailing spot, otherwise you get a big jump in the trackpoints.


Before the NAVI figures out where it is, it will record points to the card at its last known location (which will be where you sailed last).

If you change the settings to only record "on-fix" then you won't have this problem, however as the GPS gurus have said, this introduces its own set of problems.

Nebs, I think you got it, I recall I changed 'on-fix' to 'on' at about the same time this happened, although this log switch setting is under memory card and not data logger ?? OK I'll change my habits and see how I go ....... If not i'll change the log switch setting from 'on' back to 'on-fix', ta all

This is a weird one haggar, no idea why it's data logger specific.
Please keep us up to date with your progress on this.
Hope "on fix" works for you. I know sailquick prefers "on" but I don't seem to have problems using "on fix"

OK, today I tried what Mineral suggested, just truned GPS on, waited to all sats discovered and waited a bit longer. After I sailed, saved to card under data logger menu, opened the SBP file in real speed and garbage again. Next I'll try on-fix. Looking at the results in Realspeed, the problem seems to be the time, in the Data Logger file all the time column entries is 0 seconds, in th SD file all the time column entries are 1 second.

Haggar, the 0 second may be a clue, go thru your menu, to "data logger" and check "interval" my GT11 is set to 1sec

Set to 1 second under data logger and 1 second under track points menus

Out of curiosity, why are you using the SBP files at all? We use them when the device fails to write a SBN file successfully (happens every now and then) but usually only for a backup.

Yeah Dylan, checked that a couple of times. The SBP file is the file extension when you save the data logger to the SD card. I've also used the Navlink software to download the data via the cable and the results are the same.

Just open Haggars sbp file and it seem to be a realspeed problem.
Its works fine with the latest realspeed.

My GPS is set to record to SD card as I sail....The only time I have used "Data Logger" is once when I forgot to put the card back in.

Glad you sorted that Vando, I was about to suggest reinstalling firmware.

The SBP format went through a few changes since 1.917 so that version of RealSpeed could not know of the changes. Best to update to the latest version.

I personally prefer the SBP format because it is small, very fast to load and easily emailed.

Dylan, the SBP format is very similar to SBN, so you could provide support for this on your site quite easily I think.

It is somewhat similar. The storage mechanism is similar (binary file, fixed length record) but the location of all the relevant information is different.

Yes, it's on my list to add support, and also to add GPX support. Haven't had much time for it this last week, I've been building my shed again at home.
