Not sure if this has been discussed before so apologies in advance. The choices of software seems to be Realspeed and GPSAR - are there any others and what are the benefits one over the other?

Can we have a vote on who uses what and why?

I use only GPS Results becouse it is easy to use, have option for averaging two gt31 at same time, it is quick for view, edit, import google into it, so that is my opinion
GPSR have them all, quick and easy and cost is only 20€ for lifetime key for all new versions and updates
Don't like Action Reply becouse they works in java, so you need java runtime to start, graphics is very poor and options are more than complicated

For simplicity, I go with RealSpeed, once it is setup correctly -> out of the box, RS needs a bit of tweaking (eg min-sats, max-HDOP, trackpoint vs doppler). Compare this to GPSR, which doesn't need any tweaking.

However once setup, the RS interface it much more intuitive than GPSR, eg: GPSR not being able to scroll the complete dataset or the unusual mouse-zoom behaviour.

GSPAR Basic suffers from the inability to zoom in on a given run, but does a really nice track vs background overlay and multi-sailor replays are very nice.

GPSAR Pro is just impossible to use... whats with the elastic graphs?

I started with GPSAR Pro but the more I use it, the more frustrating it becomes. I agree with MAtt and wkcwarrior on both counts- the interface is lumpy and java can lead to all sorts of fun and games (i have had to to apply for several registry keys since my system admin set up on the mac wipes any data and the software resets after every 10 uses).
I've taken a look at Realspeed and seeing it used during SpeedFortnight, I think that's probably my preferred option. Last month, I was asking exactly the same question and Kato also mentioned Realspeed was Aussie designed if that plays any part in your buying decisions.

Old salty, you may need to test to see which package has the best deceleration graphs. I saw your 28kts to zero run on Tuesday and it was a joy to watch!

Aussie = Mal Wright = RealSpeed

Have only used GPSResults, but I am overly satisfied with the layout and functions of the program, also Manfred Fvchs(v is u, language filters are too strict) who made it is very helpful and have answered several of my email questions.

IMO check out them all, see which one is the most intuitive one for you and registrer it. Then wait for wind... :)

I have used both and find Realspeed far easier to use.

Realspeed for me. I chose it as there were setup guides on the GPS Challenge site plus its Aussie software. Mal Wright is good to deal with via email with quick responses.

try from control panel, add/remove programs, and find java runtime, then remove

For all our postings we use RealSpeed.
For occasional checking we use KA72
We have found both of these programs give very similar results.
For Google Earth overlay I use the remnants of the trial version of GPS Results.

Realspeed for me nice and simple

I'd use real speed all the time if I could get it to run in Linux, (I'm very close, just can't get the machine code to come up so it can be registered)
AS GPSARPro runs in Java, that works OK in Linux, but finding the data you want in the trackpoint table is a big hassle, unlike realspeed it doesn't get highlighted when a result is selected.
It is easier than realspeed to combine files thou.
