Hello
The last time I used my GPS, I didn't get any reliable readings. I am going to follow Roo's set up instructions again and see if I can sort it out. But, one thing I have noticed is that I dont seem to have the large screen format option. Any ideas why or what I need to do to get it?
Cheers

To get the big letters you need the latest software, Tom Chalco's instructions are good for setting up the latest software.
Roo, sells his units with the latest software loaded so his instructions assume it's already in.

Hi guys,

I dont have the lates software and I can get large digits on my BGT Navi, Unless I have d/loaded accidentially the latest one, I will check and take a digital pic of my readout.

By "latest" I meant "not the version it comes with from the shops"

It's this version at the moment, GT-11/BGT-11 Firmware v1.61(B0608T).
download from here.
www.locosystech.com/en/page/support-download-datasheets.html

And here's Tom Chalco's link.
mtbest.net/setting-up-navi-GT-11.htm

Tells you how to do it.

MintoxGT - that is the size of font I am after. Mine obviously doesn't have the latest firmware installed.

Mintox, mate, If you have that size font you don't have the original firmware, certainly not the version that mine came with anyway!
Mine only had a split screen with current speed and max speed displayed together, so it was about half size and much finer. I didn't get the option of large font until I downloaded and installed, B0608.

I see yours is a bit older (B0403) I'm not sure what the differences are, but think the later versions are about being able to record binary data to the SD card. If you're doing that may be an idea to get B0608, it's possibly more reliable.

Hi Mickey

Your firmware is 1.5 (B0313)

Decrepit
when we last looked at Mickey's readings we got about 10 different files some just 2 min long from approx 30 min session. The traces were very angular. Do you think this will also be fixed with the new firmware?

Mintox, I see Tom Chalko is now on version 0910, so if you want the latest, download from his site.

Nat, sorry I missed you guys when you came to Mandurah, maybe next time.

I'm far from an expert on this stuff, I had multiple files once but they were unreadable, the SD card had been corrupted somehow, I had to reformat it.

Ah, a light's just gone on in my head, multiple files on the SD card can be caused by a set up problem. Under "memory card" there's a setting for file size, sounds like Mickey's might be set to about 2kb, that will give about 2min worth per file.
You have to change this setting to "whole card".

That should give one big file. The angular thing could be the gps loosing site of the satellites, This can happen when you fall in the water, or if it's under a wetsuit or something.
I've seen somebody wearing the gps inside a wetsuit, he'd tested it on land (dry) and it worked OK, but don't think it works reliably once the wetsuit is saturated with salt water.

So to answer your question, changing firmware without resetting the memory card probably wont fix the problem.

He meant "card size" and the reason I know he meant card size, cos that's how he got me to fix the same issue I had And dont let decrepit fool you, he is a clever vegemite with this stuff, no matter what he says.

Hi Decrep,

Thats why I put a pic up of the version, I really have not been paying attention to the various versions as I was happy mine was working fine, I think I will now, as I start to hit the water and the readings become important to me.

Thanks mate,

Has anyone ever had any problem updating their firmware?

Just tried to update mine to the version on Tom Chalko's site, but it keeps stopping at 36%, tells me its updated successfully, but the Navi then said "FIRMWARE ERROR".
Reloaded the 1.5 version and its back to normal.

Am I doing something wrong?

BTW, I've searched the Mt. Best site and buggered if I can find his email!

Grumps, you getting a dialog box opening when you hit the "execute tab to start uploading that request "please enter password"
what password is it looking for. If I can get that I can try uploading the data, and see how it goes.

I get to the execute tab from the NAVIFU.exe program box and right in middle of screen, a small NAVi dialog box opens asking for "please input password"
buggered if I know what its asking for?
emailed Locos asking them what it was?

Thanks Mathew, checked with a few others, nobody else has comeback saying they hit this "please enter password" yet.
Noticed Nebbian and Vando uploaded no problems.

You need to make sure you run the navifu program from the directory where you have the chiplist and NAVi files.

My Navifu.exe file is in the same directory as chiplist.txt and navi.bin.

When I tried to update to either the b0608T file from the locosys website or the 0910a file from Tom Chalko's site, the update would reach 36% and prompt that it was complete. After resetting the navi I would get Firmware error.

If I then updated using the 1.5 b0313 firmware, it would update and thankfully, all my settings were still there.

I tried downloading both the files a couple of times to ensure they hadn't corrupted during the download but it didnt help.

I guess I will try downloading them here at work just to make sure, but it scares the crapper out of me when I see FIRMWARE ERROR.

It's still beta firmware so likely to have bugs. Lost track of all the firmware upgrades over the last few months, best to use the formal release that is approved until they finalise what they are doing.

Of course, this is just a matter of opinion, but many have been using the beta firmware versions with absolutely no problems.
My recommendation is to use the latest version released and if you are really nervous, use a second GPS as a backup. Another GT-11 (running V1.5 if you like)is ideal but even your old Garmin is better than nothing.
Even when I have full confidence in my GPS I would never consider not having a backup for what might be a great session. Even if the GPS is perfect, the user (me) can still stuff up the settings or a bad crash could always cause damage.......

Hi

I just managed to download new firmware V1.62 (B0910a) to Mickey's GT-11. I changed all the setting as described by Tom and everything looks good, but I still don't get the big screen setting in Trip Meter?

Any suggestions?

thanks

Hey Grumps,

Maybe dig around in here and you might find some clues?

You might have to email the guy who had a similar problem.

Kato, Grumps MintoxGT and mathew, and Roo (hope I didn't miss anybody).
The NAVi wont take a zipped file
I just proved that
It will however, take an unzipped file I just proved that as well
And when reading Toms instructions, pay particular attention to point5 (http://mtbest.net/setting-up-navi-GT-11.htm) particular and close attention attention to the "DONT" bit in that line

Anyway loaded and set for more carnage

Thanks guys.
