Awesome video Keef. I won't be surprised if it goes viral out there in Youtube world. Great music, and that overhead mould separation scene, with applause, perfect timing. I'm inspired to get out in the shed to make a secret weapon for August.

Thanks Keef for the personal fin making instruction on the weekend took a lot out of that, will start making a new fin a soon as I get some unidirectional carbon lots of good tips like using old fiberglass grit for making a harder filler and leading edge anti wear strips of fiberglass rovings and stainless steel strip

thanks Ian, its good to see theres someone out there with enough attention span too notice that its a vid on how to make a fin and not how to edit a movie
you will be impressed with the fin phil layed up on the weekend 270gr without barrel nuts , looks like he's going to be a movie star, got some good footage laying up the mold for the final vid (go phil) Ian if you need any help give me a call, cya next westerly
phil thanks for personally delivering the barrel nuts , how did you know I was running short

what's it with the red thumb, must be the end of season blues
so far layed up 4 fins , the first was the 22cm almost full carbon and 478grams, still not to bad considering the size, decided to lay some divinicell in the core and much lighter,
now I have got them sorted, ill tune them up in the illawarra westerly's, and hopefully have them sorted for LG January or February next year

Really nice video Keef much clearer, made a fin myself this weekend couldn't wait for the unidirectional carbon turned out ok, much more difficult to work with twill, might try putting the stainless steel edge in the next one, getting better each time. What is the thickness of the stainless strip you use and do you preshape the stainless strip edge before placing it in the mould or grind the edge into it after it's all set? Westerlies starting this week hope to catch you at the lake.

phil the problem with twill all the way too the leading edge is the cross weave, it looks good when its first done but wears and serrates easy, if you can lay some roving's its better, the stainless is 1.5mm x about 30mm grind the leading edge and both sides, its shaped the a prefect fit, that way it wont move in the mould
hope too cya on thursday

Grinding stainless makes a lot off heat be very careful shaping it in the fin. Too much heat will stuff the epoxy bond

no angle grinders mike , most of the filing and grinding was done before it was put in the mould, hopefully we will be getting a good breeze tomorrow for a test run
