I saw one of these about 30yrs ago and it was classed as an old board. (From around 1980 app)
While trying to explain it to someone, I did a Google search and came up with pretty much nothing.
Does anyone have a picture showing the lateral deck hump?

There used to be one hanging on the wall at Sailboards Australia on Sydneys northern beaches but also cant find any pics of it.

I couldn't find any other photos from that era but that shape definitely had the slim thing going on well before Starboard produced the Atom. The front would flex a lot in the chop and that this yellow one lasted about 3 months before delaminating ( or maybe it was the Trifin that delaminated I cant remember. I can remember doing 55 knots on the day this photo was taken!)

Makes me recall by Bombora Tri-fin and the 6m triangle it came with. Summer, winter, 15kn or 30kn, whatever- the 6m

We have it sooooo good now.

Was the first board I owned, two fin boxes, one in the centre just behind the mast bases and one at the big round tail. Two holes for the plug in, expanding rope universal, now that was a bit of kit. Spin out was a constant companion, football fins were developed and that helped. And the strange hump at the back which didn't seem to do much.
Trifin came next and was a much better board, for its day that is.

Then when u had enough money u would buy the 4.2 storm sail that fit on the same mast and was horrible and preferred the 6 even in a storm.
Thats why one can still buy near new 4.2 storm sails for free.

The Bombora Tri-fin was GROUNDBREAKING!!! As was the New Toy.
But I can't believe but there is no picture of the 'ugliest windsurfer ever', the Dromedary!

Bet you'd have a fun time with the boom tied to the mast at the clew end like that! Been a long time since it set foot in the sea no doubt! I've got one the same, couldn't get $15 for it. Time to bring out the marital circular saw I think. Anyone got any creative ideas for such a relic?

Make a bench seat for next to the swimming pool.
Ive seen this done with old glass Malibu type surfboards and it looked very cool.

It was THE BOARD when released. First mass produced wave board.
Changed the sport.

I'll give you $15 for it. Worth the money just for the trip down memory lane....I wonder if it will feel anything like I remember it? Will be interesting with a new rig. Are you in Sydney?

Was given a trifin for xmas when I was 14 to learn on - took a week of uphaul / falloff / uphaul / falloff ....... before I moved anywhere. 30 odd years later I am glad for that experience - still sailing and still loving it.

It's not rooted , the front poles are for fishing and the back ones are for the ores .
Could be flag pole holders.

Extracts from the Neva Griggs book "One with the Wind" published early in 1982. Photos date back to as early as 1980, possibly earlier.

Australian Sailing had many adverts and articles on early windsurfing including Bombora from the 1979 onwards and there are additional details there. I don't have copies of the issues anymore.

Specs of the Bombora "dromedary" shown here in the table with other boards of the time. I don't believe it was marketed as the "Dromedary" unless I am mistaken, but was called the Windsurfer Bombora. It was 3.0 m long not 3.5 m.

The blow moulded poly Hifly 666 was 200 litres, designed for wavesailing and cost $1300 while you could buy a custom Bombora proto for $700. I guess that was when all the European brands were still made in Europe though Cobra had their own Production model out pretty early on.

Yes. I recall the 666 was obsolete pretty quickly, at least in Australia. I remember the risque, controversial Hifly advert for the brand from Freesail early 1982-83. Not sure if the advert translated into sales. Maybe someone could post the advert if they have it.
