video proof the board floats!

today on lake Illawarra, the wind was full power 4.2/4.7 but by the time the camera came out it had dropped alot and was really gusty. Im only plaining in bullet gusts.

im stoked with the board, it floats like a fat ladies corpse and i landed a few good moves after a winter break, sailing pretty rusty.. now im starting a waveboard!

Was that filmed from the jetty at Primbee?

Really great sailing, usually only see tricks like those performed from somewhere like the Carribean so its great to see it on the Lake.

Really interesting designed board. Looks like you had a clear idea of what you wanted and your board fits it well.

thanks for wtchin everyone, I think the board might be around 107 litres, because it floats so well, it is 2kg lighter than my production board which would also ad 2L of "virtual volume". But it does not sail like a big board because of the dimensions and the fact I cut so many corners with reinforcements that wouldnt be acceptable in a full price production board.

I might run with the idea of a stright deck shape to squeeze in extra volume.. Ive been thinking if it could be applied to a waveboard. I played around on aku shaper and I can get loads of extra volume out of the same rocker/outline and rails. I cannot think of any ways this would make the board any worse because its a totally neutral area while the boards planing?

Yes this was filmed at the end of the jetty in primbee. Its an awesome spot in a westerly there is super flat water for ages but u need a shorter fin, Its really shallow right in from of the jetty so I was only doing sliding moves, but the shallowness keeps the chop down which makes sliding the board safer.

The joker at the beginning was from an episode of batman the animated series, makes me laugh every time, I was gunna paint all the characters from this series on the board!... Mark Hamill the voice for this joker.

hi barn, agree with your flat deck theory you can get more volume. i think it works well. a lot of slalom boards that are short use the same outcome to keep the volume in the board.

same applies with the rail profile. you can loose or add 5lt just be tweaking the shape.

the computer models are excellent at showing the possibilities. the only area where i've seen it not go so well is when you put too much volume up front. it can cause the tail to dig in and make the board slow to plane. especially if you have a reduced tail width as there is less width to get the tail planing. it all depends on rocker/outline etc.

the best bet is to look at the volume distribution in the modelling software.

edit* the other outcome to an uneven volume distribution is that the board becomes very dissicult in marginal conditions. dredging is very difficult work and is made even more dificult with low rockers and short noses.

You make the freestyling all look so easy I feel like I should be able to just go out and do that next time I go sailing. Flicking and spinning and popping at will...

Then reality hits.

the song is "say goodbye" from a band called The Sun..

I ripped it after watching this cool flash animation of science probes exploring post human earth!

www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/544353

Freestyles not that hard, u just need loads of wind to practice, and because I grew up in canberra which has more 18knt days per year than anywhere in australia.. made it all pretty easy.

also the fresh water of canberra improves balance, and the dead carp make good reference points..

I have a couple of other vids on my vimeo page which show some of the places ive spent time sailing..

unfortunately this board is not the future, there is no mainstream appeal of dedicated freestyle boards 215 long built like an eggshell..

I have some clips from last summer which ill put together because everyone seemed to like this video! stay tuned!!
