With a larger power wavesail, 5.8m or 5.4m I use a 26cm drake free ride fin. I'm 95kg. It has US box, but I know some people have swapped in a Tuttle box. With a more refined fin and cross over type sail (freerace) you could get even more performance if you are after speed.

BTW my comments no valid for the older Kode. The wood ones are tops!

Opposite problem for me. I have several US box fins. Having lost a couple of fins years ago when the screw broke, I don't get power box design.

And like Mark_australia says, the wood boards are better. My opinion from an aesthetic point of view, but I suspect he's talking about construction/performance. The current models of boards look like they've been painted by drunken toddlers

I just got my Fox repaired, the repairer told me its a fragile board, constructed like slalom boards with thin layer of glass to save weight, so he advised me not to use as bump and jump board. It's labeled freeride-freerace anyway, not fsw.

Totally agree about the new kode aesthetics but I don't look at the board when blasting along

I have had 3, 3S, a 2007, 97, a 2008 86. And a factory prototype Tri fin, 2011, around 96l.
I rode the larger 107 in about 2011. None of these were what I consider , and I'm the turtle not the rabbit , fast.
i think the more entertaining was the 76. At one time I had 7 Tabou boards, best of any was a 115 Rocket. A Pocket Wave in its element was grand .
the question , of fastest, in some respect is oxymoron, for a FSW.
its not designed for speed. Rather like which 4 door sedan suits best as a pickup truck.

can't comment on older or newer but the 2014 kode 94L was a really quick board . Once the personal settings are figured out and a pointy fin inserted the fun begins.
It has quite outboard straps , comfy pads , no nose rocker and a flat V . The 103 has really outboard straps.
pretty ordinary in waves but excellent at big ocean swell blasting , although from memory it was a rather harsh ride

I've had 33,5 knots out of mine .(105litre ).and it was not that flat , ...i know a guy got 38 knots on a 95 litre .
great boards in chop .and fast freeride boards .

No disrespect intended forceten but maybe you need to be an Aussie to understand the lingo. My interpretation of expression would be 'a baby changes direction very quickly'

Hi Forceten,l think Gazman nailed the term l used .The last thing you want for a board used primarily in waves is it to turn like a Tanker.

Or go off like a bucket of prawns in the sun.

While flat out like a lizard drinking.

Same for me Mark as would much prefer my JP FSW 85 in true bump n' jump conditions than my Tabou Rocket 95 Ltd freeride.

There is something about the Rocket however. It just works everywhere.
Even the 145 L works for me in heavy chop to 22 knots. (I am long and heavy, though)

As what may well be a dumb question how do people find freestyle boards as "fast FSWs"? I have an old freestyle board that I don't use enough but when I pair it with a freewave-ish fin bigger than a freestyle fin I find its slalom rocker and curved tail makes it quick (some of my best speeds on it which seems crazy) , early planing and can be chucked around. Thinking about it, I can't believe I don't use it more when it's windy. It's been eclipsed by my Dyno but perhaps I need to dust it off and give it a whirl again! Patrik and starboard seem to have taken something like this approach with the F-wave and ignite so is there something to explore here? I don't know people with freestyle boards so can't do much comparing, and I don't think they've been big sellers generally. But my limited experience with mine has been great. And it was cheap as chips from a close out bin...

Cool, too open ended for a clear answer :) I would guess that most all FSWs will max out at about 33-36 mph. Pretty damn fast!! Which one gets there easiest depends on conditions, rider preference, etc.
Choose Fanatic/JP if you want to feel like you're going fast, especially moderately powered. These can be a handful if you get overpowered or if the conditions get crazy, though, which can then be slower since you're out of control.

Choose RRD/Tabou for opposite end of the spectrum- control is optimized, don't always feel super fast, but in reality you're flying, and if the conditions are insane, you'll still be able to push it hard.

Choose Goya/Exocet for right in between the previous two categories.

And of course there are some that just aren't that fast, maxing out at around 30 give or take. Quatro Power comes to mind. Still fast enough for the average Joe, but top speed isn't priority number one- wave riding is!

I run a 109 Skate for light wind B&J and mushy onshore waves.

Personally I think it's great. I can accelerate quickly between short period swells to jump and cranks upwind on a surprisingly small fin.
The tail volume lets it catch waves with very little power while slogging in the straps and it does delightful flat water gybes. I have yet to find a flat enough spot to really see how fast it can go but the ride is softer than I expected.
I looked for this particular board for some time since from what I've read not all FS boards are as good as an all-rounder. Mine is the "heavier" and more flexible construction which may explain the smooth ride but compared to my wave boards if feels like a feather. It also has outboard front straps if desired.
The Ignite takes this concept a bit further with outboard straps front and rear plus two fins.

If I was spending new board money though I'd be looking hard at the MB Wildcat for my light wind weapon. Unfortunately that's a heavy price to pay for something I can't demo.

There's so meny contenders for the fastest FSW title some older shapes and meny current too , just had read about the starboard Ignite mabe that's a 2020 incarnation of a fast FSW

I owned a JP FSW 2010, 92 litre board ,and would say it has, and still is, one of the fastest, boards ,around.
Considering fin choice ,for different wind, and water conditions .
If they still made that shape today, I would buy a brand-new one tomorrow.
It has a very nice rail shape, length ,and width, with double concave to v ,which works in waves, b& jump, and flat water. Fast ,big jumps, turns, you name it.
My all time, all round board, no sheet.
Exorcet same vintage are fast boards as well.
You don't see many JP 2010 FSW boards ,about for sale, for this reason.
The windsurf companies will bring this shape back eventually, when the new shapes stop selling.
If you can find one buy it.
