I thought about carbon for the hugh price increase it didnt seem worth it, and chances of breaking it while remembering how to sail are probably high.

If you are worried about breaking stuff you should get an easier sail to start with. Go NCX as they come in the big sizes and will allow you to sail much easier than a cam sail. They have huge wind range/stability from 7 battens and will be so much easier to fly after you drop it in the water which you will do often.
You have a great journey ahead so be sure of your equipment choice to assist you not hinder.
The shop might have a cheap second hand or old model sail that's smaller and better for the initial beginning. You don't want to put a hole in the M1 because fixing it wil be a bugger.

I sat NCX only because you are looking at Severne sails. I have NP.

Carbon booms don't break, its worth the expense

Would you get a two sail (at least) quiver before a carbon boom? 7.8 and 8.6?

Yes kinda what I was thinking. 7.8 or smaller depending on how long I can hang in o the 8.6 for.

Carbon booms don't break, its worth the expense

Tell that to the four that I have broken, but compared to the forty alloy ones that have fallen apart in my hands over the last many years carbon is the go. Give me second hand carbon over new alloy any day. If it hasn't broken in the first few months due to manufacture faults which is how 2 of mine went, it will last for years.

100kgish intermediate and have a 2015 151 Carve that I tend not to use much as it is not the early planning board I had hoped it would be for me.
I have recently acquired a 134 Futura from the same year and wish I had taken some very good advice initially and bought it instead of the Carve. I thought it would be too small, which it really is not.
I can manage to up-haul it and slog home if I have too. Quite quick to plane and fairly forgiving to sail. It is a bit harder on the knees when it gets really choppy. The Carves are a better option when powered up in those conditions, I think.
I also have 8.6 and 7.5 Overdrives which are a very good fit for this board.

90 kilo ocean sailor here with 2014 Starboard Futura, 80.5cm width and 2 sails.
9.2m sail for 13-15 kts.
7.5m sail for 16-18 kts.
Change to smaller board @19 kts.
This is my most used board with 7.5. Early to plane & quite faster than a freeride.

Not much, maybe some of the nuances of gybing and getting into outboard foot straps, but everything else should be OK. The new gear is easier to sail. Sail fitness will be your biggest challenge.

Yep, I fully expect my arms to be pulled of after years of cycling where upper body strength was a bad thing.

its not about what you have forgotten. the only important thing is that you learn to abuse the teabaggers. and make sure to let them know you were there first.
