What about pouring hot water on the outside. That will heat up the outside part quickly causing expansion whilst the inside being a separate piece will not expand as quickly. If you're very fast with it it may work. You'd need friends on either end with a boom attached and they start twisting as soon as you start pouring as the inside bit will expand too... just a little slower than the outside.

Did you try applying and holding torque across the connection then tapping on the join with a rubber mallet?

You are more likely to get injured when you are rigging up compared to when you are sailing.

If it truly matters to you which way your rig lays when you thread your down haul you have bigger problems than threading your down haul.
