Always from the tail, which is the waterline working end of the board and STANDARD for all windsurf boards since 1982.
I didn't chime in sooner because I'm hated by lots of Aussies.
My Fanatic Fly is 9'6" so I won't mention it's mast mount distance.

Theres the Math again. I used from nose measurement bcoz Tardy did so.
Ducati then says his are both the same measurement from tail for two vastly different length board, just to make it even more confusing/ apparent.
Im an Aussie tradie n can actually measure in metric or imperial.
Also comfy with conversion from one to the other. Easy peasy.
Mark has since explained why its measured from the tail. Makes sense. He also says rocker will effect placement. All good.
You keeping up with all this ?? This is exactly why i posted this thread, To find the standard n some actual measurements for location on boards. The handle in a sup is actually placed where the the board balances. Which due to 3 fins n finboxes weight, would naturally be slightly closer to tail.
Dont worry your little ol brain about it.

To cover nose to tail, subtract the nose measure from the overall length. Easy peasy. How does Ducati's 1950cm working out ?

why do you continue to,place importance on the handle placement?

Are you using nose and or both nose and tail rocker to adjust the placement ?

Oh, this explains where your 30cm comes from. Only one board Tardys. Oh, if you installed your track at the 132cm mark, your 30cm is wrong. Since the mast track is centered at 132cm each way you have approx 12.5 cm, making the difference 15cm.

His placement being further forward than the half way , in mythical theory , which means what ?Also what defining aspect of his board makes it the go to point, esp since you dwell on half way ?

OI ! Forceten. The handle significance is coz id like to still use it to carry it. Im looking for a solution that works for this board.
As weve seen theres more than one positon. Board design dictates where it should go.

the JP is 175cm and the Bic is 195cm from the tail to the centre of the mastrack
Both have centreboards

Superimpose the JPs measure on your board, note the JP is 7.62cm longer. Ithe mast track is 5.5 cm further rearward than my B diagram. I don't think I would use the measure of a board with a centerboard.

Ducati, OH HELL !! I was doubting that 2 different length boards would have the same position. Then when i measured mine at your 195cm. I was going somethings afud here. Just doesnt look right. My '86 Cornish has track back further. Haha. 195 looks more like a raceboard with a cb. With your numbers n F10 goin blah blah blah.... im goin

Can someone who can read a tape measure n has some design knowledge help me??? Gotta be someone out there. Im no designer, never shaped a board. But to me its gotta be linked to tail rocker. Think i will just chuck it in where it LOOKS right.

Yes, surfing/windsurfing measurements are a mess. We were supposed to have converted to metric way back last century, but surfboards are still in feet and inches, (so is my height). But windsurfers, here at least, are all metric, probably because we started building them after the conversion to metric. Poor old sups are caught in the middle. With a mast track they're metric, without they're imperial.

And I was also surprised by mast track position being measured from the nose. The mast track has to relate to where you're standing on the board. You want the centre of effort to line up in between your feet. I've never ridden a board with that much rocker, but I suspect that when planing you could stand a fair way back, but maybe all that rocker would make the board twitchy if you got too far back.

So just to clear it all up.. Measured a 10'4" Windsup today. No tape measure in sight. So we did it olskool, 7.5 handspans from tail to centre of box. Haha.
So did the handwalk on my board. Well what do ya know?

really curious part is you neglect to reflect on the exactly where you were going to put it, now where you are going to.
A hand span will vary from 17.78-22.86cm.
using your favorite , Trump who has a span of 18.41cm the length from tail to center of the mast box is 138.1cm.
check my first A diagram for comparison.

F10, no mate. All fact n actual measureable numbers. My handspan is 24cm. So centre of track is 180cm (70") from tail.
Exactly where it looks like it should be.
