To be fair, Navdra was sure he used a real shop (just online) and he asked the right questions before purchase. Then they told him the warranty claim was denied so of course his first thought is to ask advice about hitting up the manufacturer.

He did not know the seller was dodgy until Severne told him they had not had a warranty inquiry. Any one of us would have gone thru the same thought process I reckon. Not like he is wilfully bagging Severne.

I'd rather see the whole thread gone and a new one about how to identify fakes, if in fact it is.

Mark, exactly. Of course that I regret how it all went on now, but I tried to conduct fair and go trough regular procedure - contact vendor, pursue warranty claim. The moment I realized I was probably scammed, I made a post and explained it. Please, allow some more time for investigation to end. I still don't know if it was fake boom, stolen boom or one that was damaged and repacked in the first place. Trust me, I'm the one that has lost the most. In money (I hope this will be rectified), time (spent pursuing warranty that I believed was valid), nerves (thinking that manufacturer really rejected my claim). And it lasts for three months for me.
In direct contact Severne proved to be reputable manufacturer and if I get my refund back I'll give him my trust by getting the same boom again (I really enjoyed it before it broke). This time, I'll double check where do I buy it from.

I broke my severne Carbon mast extension on the third outing. Paul at Zu Boardsports replaced it no question. Before I even opened my mouth.

I have had the enigma boom for two years and love it!

I see that he has no more offerings, so you should be fine.
We don't have lot of local shops with large stock, so often have to turn to online source for equipment. I bought lots of equipment online (neoprene suits, harnesses, sails, harness lines...). Never had a problem till now.

sounds more like one of many ebay sellers who very cheaply buy up random items from stores that can't sell the item, such as unsold old stock, then sells them on - like a modern day "the colonel" from the GC. Most likely the boom originated in a genuine severne reselling windsurfing shop, but has been passed on through a few online sellers as un-sellable stock, getting cheaper each time. if a random goods seller gets enough stock that falls under a certain genre, they'll create a new ebay account called something like "joe blogs waterports" which sounds like a legit store, but if they don't, you see stuff like windsurfing gear pop up under an unusual store name like "bras r us". if the goods are in good condition, a buyer can definitely get a serious bargain here, but almost none of it will have a legit manufacturers warranty handled by this seller.

navdra - just open a dispute and try for a refund through ebay / paypal. If the seller advertised with a warranty, and if severne have stated that normally your boom would be covered by warranty under these circumstances, and you can show ebay/paypal all this, they'll most likely force the seller to contact their seller (be it ebay or a shop), and if no progress is made a after a couple of weeks, ebay/paypal will most likely refund your money.

I have not read all the posts ..........but got a quick story

Had a classic in the red dirt ...........no maintenance or care of my boom for at least 1 year / the nut undid and bolt dropped out holding the the grasp bit that goes around the mast and was lost in the dirt , ,,,,, SNOW MAN and the van full of parts was on hand ,never had a better save and customer service and fix in my entire life .............on ya

Ps Found that bolt 2 days after you left / could not believe it ............................


The SERVERN carbon booms are good , super stiff and light / like anything in carbon , if you get catapulted in the harness OR bang them up they can break unexpectedly ............ you have to be a bit realistic with what you did to break it , but its always the minor stack that seem to do the most damage

If ya just sailing along that's a different story

All stuff breaks down with salt and sun , but its always been the clips on all booms that seem to crack and break down over time on them all .............

Really? The guy bought what he thought was a genuine boom, got treated badly through what he thought was a genuine retailer, and dared to question what he thought was the real company. I can't blame him. I would do the same in the same scenario.

I think some of you guys think the rest of the world is like Australia and can't conceive of buying something from a nearby country. Its like buying something from Qld if the guys in WA can't get stock.

Of course the issue is with the original supplier, but I think its great credit towards Severne that they are doing a lot to keep the goodwill of their brand. This alone makes people want to buy their products. The OP even says he will buy another if he gets a refund from Paypal. In my mind, he has done everything right.

The guy was quite capable of finding some obscure Ebay seller and yet couldn't contact Severne directly to sort his stuff out. The Severne website has a list of dealers, and contacts. Bringing complaints to a forum is always messy the red thumb button wouldn't be disabled if there weren't plenty of haters out there...

They didn't even have a chance to respond or rectify the situation if they chose to before their brand was portrayed in a negative light. I get the guys frustration after thinking he was buying a premium product but he went about dealing with it the wrong way. I have had a couple of minor things like boom clamps cracking and Severne has always replaced them through my local shop no questions asked. To me that's what is important. Every brand will have the odd fault or failure it's the after sales backup and an awesome product that keeps me coming back.

Tough crowd here. He went back to the retailer who told him that Severne had denied the claim. So he he came here looking for help and advice.

The title of this thread is inflammatory with regards to the manufacturer's reputation. It does not give an accurate indication of the entire story yet continues to appear at the top of the list giving a bad impression. It was careless of the OP to title it this way and it will continue to undeservedly malign the manufacturer for ever more.

People should really be more careful.

OK but if you had the clips crack, and the shop told you - "no warranty, we asked and Severne says no" ......... what would you do?

But yes, I have always had ripper service from Severne, but also Neil Pryde and Goya. We all come here and say how great our board is or how we like our new fin..... but how many have come here and said "hey I have a great service warranty story to tell...." Not many.

On a positive note I would like to buy a good second hand 180-230 Enigma if anyone has one Everyone who I sail with rave about them so I want one I know they're rare as hens teeth but you never know.

It isn't their fault regardless,the guy catapulted and snapped his boom,it happens,all booms are not catapult proof.
I do feel for him if he has bought a fake however none of this has been proven and Severne have been unaware of all this until he started bad mouthing them on this forum.

Well Naccers, it was the truth, literally, and for him a bad experience and frustrating. We are lucky we live in a country where we can purchase easily and resolve issues with reputable dealers, however buying anything on line can be a risk.

Why are people wanting to get rid of the thread? If you read through it you see that there has been a bad experience buying from a non-dealer, and also that Severne is helping out trying to improve the experience with their brand.

For my mind its a good way of advertising that brand.

If everyone tried to get rid of anything slightly negative, it would seem dodgy, but by leaving this in the open it shows that Severne are good to deal with. I would much rather be able to read this and understand what happened than thinking the worst.

I think a lot of people feel a bit more strongly about this because its a local brand, but it shows Severne in a good light, so why worry?

Heck, I weigh over 100kgs, and I expect a boom to survive a catapult, and I have had heaps. I might break a rib if I hit the boom in the process, but I really expect it not to break.

I have broken alloy booms, but these, every time, have been through metal fatigue and not in a catapult... just sailing along. 100kgs is not good for alloy booms.

I haven't yet broken a carbon boom since switching to Chinook and an Enigma, and I figure if I ever break my Enigma I have more problems to worry about than why it broke. If I can't break one, then I don't think an 80kg guy can break one early on. A genuine/not defective boom that is.

Agreed, lets delete all the bad press and keep the good stories. We are a one big happy family

This thread is like a soap opera. Same characters, more or less, some come and go. You can tune in once or twice a year and still manage to follow what's going on. Sort of comforting if a little predictable.
