that's right i will go back to normal U joint.
actually i have realised that the screws on the tendon are in steel while the upper part connected to the extension is in aluminum.
no wonder the aluminum corroded around the screw area, making the screw hole bigger and eventually letting the head of the screw pass through. Incredible that this design was approved by the brand.
North Sails rebranded Duotone in 2018, there were probably extensions being sold from stock for a while, So your extension isnt new. Yes, the holes got bigger because the screw is harder than the extension. With any kit it needs inspecting for wear. Like boom arm clamps with carbon booms. Chinook used to have metal pins, which ovalized the holes. So they switched to softer plastic which didnt wear the expensive carbon boom away, but the pins wear and fail after approx 300 hours use. So you have to inspect them from time to time. I'm ok with that.
The 'Duotone tendon safety' rope isnt any good here, as its inside the tendon attached to the bolts. Thats dumb as well.
Tendons give a direct feel to the UJ, required by slalom/flat water sailors for a better direct feel. For wave/B&J the softer squidgy Boge type is better, as its less harsh in feel.
So what did NS/Duotone do? Used spring 'suspension' for a tendon joint. It makes no sense to me at all.
In the past they have come up with 'revolutionary' designs in boom clamps which broke masts when slightly over tightened. Thats what you get with 'technical designers' who know f-all about the sport.
