What's the deal with these purple colors that JP are using in their board range, particularly the FSW? Wasn't a fan of the purple/pink in the '22, but this year it's just so ugly I wouldn't even consider buying it.

I'm normally not too fussy about colors and design so was wondering if it's just me or do some people actually like these colors?

I think they're trying to coordinate with Neil Pryde sail colors. Would look good with NP but pretty ghastly with Severne or S2

When I next buy a board color will certainly be an issue, dark colored boards get hot in Florida sun. Found that out with my Goya Bolt that had wide black bands on the deck spelling out goya, was so concerned that I decided to paint the black bands white, worked out good. So if a board met all my criteria except for the color, painting it would be an option.

Anti theft design? But it could equally turn people off buying them.

I said the same thing about the race sails when i was on NP sails. Its like someones menopausal mum designed the colours.

I kinda like it. It reminds me of that synth wave sunset art style in early 90s video games

I like it. Must be a bloke thing.
I hate blue or green. I prefer red or yellow that shows up on the water.
Yes I know the sail in my profile pic is Blue but it was the only one they had available..

I don't often find myself agreeing with Sandman (or sometimes understanding him) but I'm 100% with him here. Don't make a thing that could be prone to damage from heat and also liable to spend some time out of water in the direct sunlight anything but bog boring white.

I have to say , they look better in the flesh . Last year they had a freeride, kinda the same colours and it did look good . I don't really care what a board looks like , I have to take this approach, all my boards are ugly

As long as board works good, I don't care what colour it is. Although, I try to avoid red and orange sails, as a red sail looks like a Severne, and an orange sail looks like a Severne that's been flogged for a few seasons

I guess it makes people talk about them and put photos of them on forums, that might be the logic.

Maybe, although would be a sad motive for a design. Anyway, I generally like their boards so I would be more than happy to accept a board if they reach out to thank me for this promotion ;) Not that they or most windsurf brands would care about customer feedback anyway, let alone monitor this forum

It's on trend, meaning contemporary and will generally appeal to younger humans and slaves to fashion. As a designer, you know when you're on target when old folk complain. The irony is that it's mostly old folk that buy windsurfing equipment soooo... might be on trend but doesn't speak to the customers that stump up with the pesos.

BTW I'm old folk, fan of JP boards but despise the latest colour combos. They look like accidents created by sock designers.

I am not a fan of pink or purple however some tones stand out visibly if you are wanting to alert others to your presence. Remember that bright colours, including orange, pink and red, won't stop a jet ski from driving right over you.

I think that colours are a good thing, surfboards being mostly a boring shade of white. Beware though of guys using boards or sails that are all black. They are wannabe pirates so get out of their way!

My first sail had a lot of pink/purple/blue shading in it. I was a bit embarrassed but had no choice because I was a beginner. I think that the shop sold it to me because no one else would buy it. I much prefer the orange one I use now. I do have to admit that my board has shades of purple on it so there is no escaping it.

So can we conclude that almost nobody wants or likes purple boards and JP should just move away from that colour scheme? Think everyone happy, I'll let them know ;)

I know mixing purple and yellow makes grey. Grey and maroon can sometimes be a default colour when we can't see the actual colours due to the limit in what our eyes can see . For example you can imagine yellow fading to orange to red . Yellow to green to blue . You can paint those colours fading from one to another . You can't fade yellow to purple , you'll get different shades of grey , not a yellowy purple or a purply yellow . It's a colour you can't even imagine because we've never seen it . Most people have 3 colour receptors in there eyes . Colour blind people only have two . My sons for example can't tell the difference between red and green . Both lights on a traffic light look the same , handy . Some people can't tell the difference between blue and grey . I learnt all this when finding out about their colour blindness.

Personally I don't find the JP color scheme as ugly as my Severne Pyro, but I like the performance of my Pyro so I don't care.

Never bought ( or not bought) a board based on the colour scheme. I'm gonna put my hand up and vote they look pretty cool. Then again I reckon the height of board fashion was my fluoro yellow multicoloured polka dotted 80s custom board so not sure if I am the arbiter of colour scheme excellence..

I would pick the color of a board only if the board comes in different colors, both colors are available, and the price is the same. Otherwise, I don't care.
I would not mind to ride a bright pink board forever and I would not mind to get rid of a crappy board with the best colors/designs (well, maybe it can be a good wall display).
