What the hell is up with all the short tackers out there today?
The chick with the sail number starting with G needs to either learn the rules again or maybe just piss off? I know your number and I will not hesitate to name and shame if I see you do it again.
Hopefully someone spoke to you in the carpark as I was not the only one who noticed your selfish behaviour? You weren't the only one doing it either.
Just remember you are a visitor here and there is a thing called wave etiquette that us locals use and it works.

Yeah I think I know who you mean, she's atrocious if it is whom I suspect. Does the same at Corro. Jumping on a wave upwind of somebody who has been on it for 10-20 sec already and then wanting to claim it is crap.

huh? ... it actually sounds more like "male locals complaining about someone younger and female, whom that is better than them".

Some people prefer to have a public shaming where they can be somewhat anonymous, as opposed to actually behaving the same way in public where others may step in and give them a shaming right back.

The reality is that the WA coastline attracts visitors from all over the place - which makes sailing here just like most other places in the world where multiple riders are going to catch the same wave.... Instead of complaining, maybe we can share waves and share the stoke ?!

sharing waves might be fun in 2 ft beach closeouts, but when it is a point break with a designated takeoff area and 20 people out trying to catch mast high sets then a little law and order is necessary otherwise people get hurt.

Their is an etiquette down in margs and not dropping in is part of it.

If you want to share waves best to stick to your local.

Mathew you have got no idea! This chick was short tacking everyone that day and several times blatently dropped in on sizable waves which could easily have lead to carnage. I can guarentee u if she had been a guy someone would have dropped her. She is a good sailor , she also nows the rules and when one of my friends politely asked her to do what everyone else does which is line up basically told him he didnt know what he was talking about. So my advice mathew is dont talk crap about stuff you know nothing about.

Well, whatever. Maybe it is 10 sec for you. Maybe sometimes I take 21sec.
Point is, first on it wins it unless you picked it up 3km offshore which is crazy of course. BUT yes at Corro where it is onshore and you cut upwind on a wave and get one or two turns if you're lucky and there is 4 sections in 200m YES it can handle a few sailors on one wave.
BUT if you are on it first then somebody hops on, they can't expect to own it just cos they are upwind. Its just about being polite and ensure we all have fun.

For the record, I spoke to some people today, I was talking about a different sailor in that post above so I have apologised. Different person.

She speaks English well so she would understand you telling her where to go in very loud offensive Australian and she would probably have not done it again. or just acted like she wasn't there and just ride your wave, it seams to be what all the euro's are doing this year, so its not entirely her fault, she has been sailing at Corro's all summer where this year in particular the visitors from overseas have thrown all the rules out the window.

Pc, couple of points about your post. Firstly will everyone stop comparing corros and margies. On a sizable day at margies if 2 people come together on a wave there is a good chance that gear will be broken and even worse people will be hurt. It is straight out a one person wave. As far as shouting her down im sure that most people that has posted concerns about the events that took place feel the same way that i do and that is any form of violence against women including yelling and swearing is an absolute no no. As far as your dumb statement about because all the other euros are carrying on that way its not her fault we are in the middle of a euro backpacker led shoplifting, littering and really bad driving wave at the moment and because they are all doing it its not all right! This topic should wind down now because this girl was in the wrong. There are rules on all surf breaks concerning right of way. They are designed to ensure that everyone gets a go and for safety reasons. It can get very frustrating at times because with the increasing number of kites in the water at the point getting a good wave can sometimes be hard. Believe me i know all about it, i have been the heaviest sailor at the point for years and have been on the wrong end of being mowed down so many times but that does not give me or anyone the right to drop in on anyone and spoil their fun.

Agreed- people being jerks out there is not tolerable.
But isn't it more effective to have a word right there and then ?. People will soon learn and this issue will be eliminated in the future.
Also What has gender , country of origin , vessel of choice or spot specifics to with this .
General rules apply to all spots ( across the world!)!

Maybe if we focus on this we can reach a desired outcome : everyone adhering to wavesailing rules and displaying a form of good sportsmanship. And most of all don't be a turkey

As stated in original post: sail number had a G in it . G stands for Germany. Germany is a country in Europe.

Pretty pathetic that a bunch of old men are taking to an internet forum to bitch about a young girl getting better waves than them and sailing better than they can.. If your a 'local' then whats wrong with saying hello to new faces on the beach and just pointing how you think the spot should work? I think any advice about an unfarmiliar spot is always welcome.

So we have "Main Break" with "20 people" on it, all trying to catch mast high sets... and someone short-tack onto a mast-high wave. Hmm... sounds dubious.

And the whole "stick to your local" thing is indeed the surfing culture of dont surf in my spot or there be some panel work required of your vehicle... which is about the worst aspect of surfing, brought over to windsurfing.

And THAT is why we windsurf and not surf. Just let it go mate, life is too short to worry about a girl or anyone for that matter stealing your wave. Just enjoy the fact you can do it in the first place!!

This happened a while ago so I have gotten over it but looks like it's a thread with many views and opinions.
For starters Erdbeeren, thanks for the apology and no hard feelings.
For those that know me, I'm a pretty relaxed and chilled out bloke. I'm not one to voice my opinion in public especially with violence and yelling. I'd rather just shake my head in disbelief and get on with it.
But this particular day it was smallish, inconsistent and crowded. So for me I personally sail out the back and be the last person to turn around. Then as Im sailing in, others are also doing the same and lining up behind me.
This allows us to pick a swell and ride it in until it breaks. All good yeah?
But along comes the short tacker. There's a few waves in a set and you've just pushed everyone back. So I've had to slow down, let my wave go and now I'm stuck in between waves because the person behind me is on his wave. This is frustrating the first time because you've spent the time in sailing out the back, turn around and sail back in. You start to wonder why when a person does it the second time? And by the third time it gets pretty old. See the point?
Now if you are still following my rant you can now try and picture a big day at Margs. This is a pretty epic situation to be in as you are in limbo, come off the plain and have no where to go because someone has short tacked in front of you. Therefore the need for rules.
Anywho the only reason I had mentioned you in particular Erdbeeren is because you did it to me 3 times and you had sail numbers on. Like I said, you weren't the only one doing it. I had gone in and gone home by the time you came in.

Wow, reading all this makes me so grateful that there are only 2 of us windsurfers and 3 kiters on our lake, and we all get along with one another as we all have a blast on the water. The glory days of windsurfing!

Ok we have had a meeting and We the people of Margaret river are implementing a new policy. If you drop in on someone then you owe 1 carton of beer to be presented after your session. Each offence = 1 carton. If a local drops in on a visitor then the visitor is to pay 1 carton, consider it local tax. If you are a pro sailor then It is one carton from each sponsor per offence.
