Waveslave,

This issue has nothing to do with the relative merits of each sport, but rather the prevalence of mavrick and dangerous practicioners in each sport.

The big difference between the sports is that:
- The overwhelming majority of sailboarders, sufficiently control their craft and understand and abide by the rules of operating water craft, so that they do not put other water users or themselves at risk
- A disturbingly large % of kiters (which varies from location to location) either do not have sufficient control over their craft or do not know the rules or do not take sufficient care to abide by the rules when operating their craft and as a consequence put other water users and themselves at risk

maybe thats the difference between the two sports, one is enjoyed by doing, and the other needs to have others watching for them to enjoy it. ;)

You think ? ^^^

I think the big diff between the two sports is that kiters have the ability to access instant acceleration on demand,

by smashing a downstroke whip which produces a massive powerspike.

In compassion, all a poley can do in a lull is pump his rig in a fit,

which feels a bit like jerking on an air-oar in a little rowing boat.

*Try saying air-oar several times fast.

lol.

I dunno Maddlad, I quite enjoy watching kiters swim upwind to get back to their board

Just looks like 5 year olds hanging off mum n dads hills hoist holding a skateboard and flipping it round a few times while shouting "look at me mum ". ;)

Somehow I think jerking over little rowing boat may be familiar to you.

But I must say "smashing a downstroke whip which produces a massive powerspike" is genius, you should write the blurb in the advertising for kites!

OTOH it does sound very kiter, always going on about how it is sooo much more hardcore. All I see is a handful who can tear waves apart and the 99% who are bored senseless after two years mowing the lawn and doing slow high jumps with a bit of a twist.
