There was a JP SLW on the buy & sell this week. Sold in 2 days!!!! they are HOT property.

We have a SB US down here in Busso and its certainly fun to sail. Needs a big sail too though.

Yep, agree with Dave, keen to get one but rare as rocking horse **** secondhand, especially without dings, and a bank breaker price for a new one.

cluffy, jeff irvin and myself have one and like em

they used to make 2 models and are now down to one
cluffy liked the 90 cm wide "smaller" model since he is lighter and it is racier
jeff and i as heavyweights opted for the larger 92 cm wide model

I have a jp slw and it is way better than sliced bread. Team it up with a big sail like a reflex 9.7. There was recently an rrd lightwind on gumtree. i have only sailed the jp slw, mine is a 2015. I bought mine secondhand but would stump up for a new one if i had to. I would like to try a lighter sail on it oneday, but the reflex is so good its hard to imagine anything being better. Its more to do with the rig than the board, but the big gear is super tiring if you drop it in the water. Fortunately it gybes well. I havent tried it in big chop or with a 7.8, maybe this season.

What is the biggest sail you have
What is your weight
Experience level?
How light wind do you want to go sailing

Why I ask is that lightweights do well on big slalom boards in light winds also plus the older model GOs work well also.

Great video and blog...looks like most of us are iin the same vintage. I'll need some luck, but beleive things will improve as people generally trade in after Christnas. Fingers crossed

I'm around 75kg now...might be differnt after Christmas lunch!!
Just sold about sold all me gear and have been sailing since the 80s. Had all types of sails and boards but now looking at something different to keep the pace during the day rather than wait for the seabreezes. Still like going fast....very fast. Cheers

Hi Jeff, around 75kg and have just about sold all my gear ready to search for a JPSLW. EXperienced for over 30 years and have had many boards. Looking at light winds bewteen 8-14 knots.Ive had slalom boards befroe but the SLW seems like its the right thing for me now. Cheers Toe

Thanks Piv. I was thinking more around the 9m mark for a sail...makbe more the camless type...ot sure if that affects the performance overall?

The most successful lightwind sailor on my lake is 75kg

He gets up and going while U.S. Heavyweights are still on longboards

What does he ride.... 137 isonic 85 wide??
Uses Ezzy legacy 7.5 and now upgraded to Ezzy 8.5 lion

My 100kg mate also gets away on a big JP MAGIC ride with 8m sails

At 75kg you have a lot of light wind choices

I have the Silver 154l. Plenty of volume for my 100kegs, so the heavy weights should not dismiss it as an option.
Not as quick to plane as a formula board, but way less intense to sail.

At your weight a big iSonic could be an option too, if you can't find a SLW, Ultra Sonic or similar.

No way I will be selling mine anytime soon,

Hi toe. At 75kg you have a lot more options. Any of the 85 wide slalom boards should get you going. Yes I think 9.7 would be big for you. Probably 8.5 to 9 would be right. Sounds like you appreciate good gear so go with a three or four cam sail. That way get more wind range and that is really important on the river. For the ocean I would go for skinny luff pocket 1 or two cam or no cam like ncx. Good luck. Mine is NOT for sale!

Thanks Piv, appreciate the feedback....most of the guys I've seen use 8.5 to 9.2 so your on the money there.

I want it

Had my first thrash in ages last weekend on my 158l, 2003 Starboard Freeformula.

I just love how much air is captured under the board, and how it gently, softly 'pfwooshs' out as you ride over chop. Never banging or crashing into chop, just floating along serenely on a cushion of air and water.

Jealous yet? Have I fuelled the 'light wind but not formula' frenzy a little more?

(no, it is most definitely not for sale!)

Why not just buy a formula, always plenty about and far better pricing and performance.

But 100 cm is a pretty random width to stop at. Has anyone spliced a few more centimetres into an old formula board to see how 120 wide goes?

Bit it pricey at $1790.
