Is that not part of sailing ? The sailors can deal with these issues and if they can't they don't deserve to win.

If you are 1st at the mark and there is a massive lull you cant get going again. Then everyone else arrives in a gust and they plane through their gybes. Its a lottery.

Hence why you should be on a foil like Nico Goyard. A foiling set up as demonstrated on Day 1... will accelerate and exit out of the gybe marks with speed leading the race as the rest of the finned pack gets stuck behind. If Dennis Conner was a windsurfer foiler he would use one like Goyard. There is no excuse to lose as you suggest for these professional sailors.

The women finned slalom racers cant swap to foil through. They had a separate fin and foil class.
Antoine Albeau said they moved the mark in the end, I think that might have been day 4.

2nd PWA slalom event in Croatia, not a 5* event so not everyone is there. There are till some big names.

In more usual downwind slalom conditions I dont see too many foils.
Most people on 7.7 and 115l/71cm type of board.

I dont think nico g is there though is he? That would have made it more relevant comparison. i want to see what he does in "good" slalom conditions does he go back to the fin or stick to foil, and does it even matter he might be mid field on either..

From the admittedly small amount of info i've heard/seen, Nico's said he's staying "loyaltothefoil" no matter what conditions. Thats what could make it interesting. Nicos' performance was standout, no questioning that. But i reckon there will still be an upper limit of wind and sea state where the foils will be quicker down a slalom course.

It'll be interesting to watch when they eventually get to do it.

It will be interesting, the little info I have seen is for israel he registered just as much fin gear as everyone else, and it was only the holes and course angles that kept him on foil. Shame theres a limted calendar this year

Yeah foils and windwings have seen the biggest interest and growth for windsurfing in 20 years. Its what the sport needed, something new and exciting to encourage people into it and a new challenge for the ones that have been sailing for years and after a challenge.
The massive growth in Foils and wings is definitely saving windsurfing and will go down in the windsurfing history books.
