Tony; it's great to see the NoR up. Can you tell me whether those race times will allow us to do both classes, RB and D2?

And doesn't the NoR allow unrestricted pumping? Is that allowed in D2 nowadays?

The races will be at the same time for RB and for D2. You won't be able to do both.
Class rules will apply for D2. Not sure if these allow pumping or not. Perhaps Eric can clarify.

So 'same time'... Same course/shared marks? Starting with the raceboards or separately shortly before/after ?

Most likely format would be shared start finish lines. May have seperate windward mark. Starting seperately after RB.

confirmed :
No pumping
Separate start just before or after RB, same starting line
Ideally, to comply with Class racing rules and racing format:
- An additional mark
- A separate finish line
but will depend on number of participants (We can accommodate with race committee).

I think I'm in - Lechner A390 with the class 7.3 sail.

I still get tempted by the RB worlds but getting new gear to be fully competitive costs a fair bit, and the unrestricted pumping is problematic.

Urghh Unrestricted Pumping. That makes me want to run for the hills.



Regarding Brisbane: At this stage I'm unlikely to be able to make it. There's an outside chance I'll slide in at the last minute, but if you're counting numbers you'd better count me as out. Sorry.

Not sure to understand your concerns guys...Unrestricted pumping? Our Class rules of race call for NO PUMPING ...

Yep, I know the D2s don't pump. The point is that I can't do the Raceboard worlds seriously because they allow unrestricted pumping, which my shoulders won't take.

The D2 is a fantastic board, it will just seem odd to me to be sailing one at the same time and place as the RB worlds.

don't know what is going on, but NOW there are two(2) DIV IIs on local kijij/craigslist in Montreal

find them a bit expensive, but they are rare and in good shape

No pumping, nice boards, nice sensation of sailing and nice, cool sailors happy to meet and be together again

Those boards look like a lot of fun, requiring lesser wind than the new modern boards. Those boards look like a shrunkin Laser sailboat with foot straps. Kinda dig it!!

We used to nickname them "boats", because of the shape. But their all-round performance was faster than any singlehanded boat of the time (apart from bigger cats). Unlike other boards, they point well in all conditions and can square run quickly and get through the light stuff. When they are up and railing they are a fantastic sensation - I'll get mine on the water in a week or two.

I love running square in 15 knots. It's like skating on ice downhill in leather soled shoes. Quite challenging.

I have the full Formula kit but after I introduced the wife to windsurfing, she only goes when it's less than 8 knots. Also, she has the car while I have a motorbike so I could usually only windsurf when she came and the Formula board was totally unsuitable. End result we don't windsurf anymore.

I think it could be rekindled with a Div II board but they are pretty scarce. I'd need on of the longer waterline boards to suit my weight now so the Mistral M1's and Alpha's are out. Probably not too expensive either. Not too much to expect really

Anyway, I'll see what pops up in the next few months. Maybe it'll happen...

Good call Jethrow! Sounds like an awesome plan to make windsurfing an inclusive thing.

One will come up in time I'm sure, Keep an eye on this thread, I'll link to any that I see available.
I doubt the world's will have much if any effect at all on D2 availability.

This is not the point. D2 are "Classics"!

We do not expect more D2 being released on market place after the Oceanics (not a World) but at least we hope create a momentum, as small as it could be, making D2 lovers regrouping enthusiastically, exchanging and sailing together on a regular basis.

We're doing everything that is possible to bring them back to D2 fans so they can sail them again if an Event is offering the opportunity to do so.

Brisbane will be 1st meeting for D2 since ...when? How many decades? ......At least 2.5!

Let's be clear:
Future is in our hands, in no one else's hands... If we (D2 lovers) don't do it by ourselves, no one will do it for us.
There is no room for doubts but for action. Just do it!

Working on bringing this old db2 back to seaworthiness (Karibu this could be your ride in Brisbane if you don't get a better offer). The first issue is this delamination, but before that are these epoxy or polyester I am guessing these were built in polyester.

Second question is should I cut away the damaged material and replace or try to stick the original material back down. I think replace but seeking some advice before the grinder gets plugged in.

Nice one. It's ok to use polyester if you can tell that it is already polyester. Normally by the remnant styrene smell. (sand a little bit if no smell.) It's arguably better to use epoxy regardless and that is what I would suggest.

Don't try to stick that bit down. open it up and do it properly. If you can tell us a bit more about the construction it would be helpful. Most of these boards are hollow foam sandwich. The core could be a number of things, if you take a good photo of it when it's clearly visible I can possibly tell from the photo.

If you remove what is obviously delaminated/cracked/split/loose carefully with the grinder and post a detailed photo or two. I'm more than happy to make any further suggestions or talk you through the job if that is needed.

p.s. What design is the board?

Can you show where is the DB2 damaged?
As Mikey mentioned, open and remove all broken parts frankly and clean the area before starting repairs with epoxy and fibee glass.
