What windsurfing things have you been doing during your Corona time out

I was very surprised to see that quite a few went out on the lake at Narrabeen today, guess the 'stay at home unless absolutely necessary' message did not sink in for some.

Did you not hear that going out for exercise is OK?

Watching windsurfing videos, walking outdoors. Since my Gym is closed, I'm doing bicep curls with a dolly, and shoulder workouts with paint cans, and doing dips for triceps and pushups for chest. Still too cold to go windsurfing. Perhaps next week if it warms up.

I'm a bit confused about where windsurfing lies in these new rules. I haven't been since all this has been happening, mainly because I have guilt feelings of going out and having fun why the rest of the world is in this mess. I've been running & bike riding for health & fitness reasons, but feel guilty about windsurfing. Then there's the rules of not congregating in groups, now only in 2's. You intent to go for a sail on your own but everyone else has the same idea so you end up with a carpark full. Then there's other rules like don't travel long distances, stay in your local area etc etc. But I find windsurfing good for my mental health, to get away from it all, my happy place. So where do we stand?
Does anyone else feel like this?

cant see the difference between sailing and bike riding , just go to a place thats not crowded i guess would be sensible thing at these times

we live on the river so should be no problems , still people out fishing , kayaking and lots of bikes on the roads this morning , just be smart and enjoy , 1 hour should be enough of a fix

Pete, we kept our proper distance whilst rigging etc. Once on the water we had a blast just sailing. Great self isolating
If you looked at the amount of people doing the lagoon trail it was busier than summer!!!!

You sail so fast Kazza no one would keep up with you- no need to worry about getting too close to others.

Thanks guys, now I feel better about going for a sail. I live in the middle of some great sailing spots right on my doorstep so not travelling too far. Just need some wind now.

We naturally spread out while rigging and derigging, given the space taken up by sails and boards. On the water it's the same.

I sailed at my local, which is a favourite picnic spot, on Saturday. The car parks were half empty, there were no picnic groups, but there was lots of promenading, with people generally practicing social distancing.

There were a half a dozen out windsurfing. I suspect there would have been more if the wind had co-operated. Despite the lack of wind, it was good to get out.

I'm windsurfing as usual. It's nice having your own lake at times like this, even if it's tiny.

We've been on the acreage less than two years, however, and in that time we've had the worst-ever drought, been surrounded by the worst-ever fires, copped a red alert for toxic algae, been hit by a flood, and now corona. Let's face it, the next thing will be the platypus going Godzilla on us and the blue wrens turning into man eaters.

Mornington Peninsula Rescue posted a bit of a rant yesterday about irresponsible windsurfers, surfers and Kitesurfers not staying home. They reported that they had to do a helicopter rescue of a windsurfer off Aspendale and surfers off Flinders. We had a 25 knot northerly yesterday, so I don't know who would have bothered surfing Flinders and a windsurfer in trouble at Aspendale would have just beached a couple of kms down the beach. I couldn't find anything in other media. Could they be making this up to get us off the water. Anyone know the windsurfer who got a helicopter ride in exchange for dumping his gear?

In QLD we are worried some of you will fake a breakage and drift over the NSW Tweed Line. Punishment for misdemeanors is forced watching 14 days of stringsailing videos.

Not judging anyone...but yes the whole lake was rammed the paths the carparks the grass etc, yes busier than all summer. No I ducked out for a walk with the kids and dog expecting a few to be out and about and was gobsmacked - traffic no parking , walkers, runners, riders etc. some distancing properly some with no idea. At home in our area almost everyone is hunkered down well and not going out round the area, schools are deserted parks & playgrounds empty shops quiet etc. I just assumed with the beaches parks BBQ's etc shut by Scomo that the lake would be off limits with our patch being one of the highest hubs with about 70 cases on the beaches. Did the wind kick in?

2 people on a boat needs 8m2 of space, that's 2m X 4m. When you take into account the bow, that's a reasonably big fishing boat

Apparently media@lsv.com.au has video. It is unclear if this is actually a windsurfer but someone was winched down to assist the "windsurfer" in trouble. Has anyone seen the video ?

The wind did kick in Pete and was good fun.
We were blown away by the amount of people in groups walking, riding and congregating. Its just not sinking in!!!!!!!
We stayed well apart.
There are still a fair few people at the beach across the road. But very sensible distancing. Its the crowded ends that are the problem. Northern Beaches council has now closed all pools and parks.

Does anybody know this windsurfer? 300m is not very far to paddle/swim the board in with rig attached. 2 years ago I broke my ankle and had to paddle the board in 2.7km as the crow flies cross/upwind in 4m conditions. Took about 1 1/2 hrs. I've swum board and rig in more than 1km when the wind died several times. Basic rule of windsurfing is don't go out if you can't get back in

No, its not sinking in, is it.
Local police WILL be giving $1000 fines to kiters and windsurfer and surfers etc. They have said that essential exercise is not driving anywhere to do it, or activities that have risk, only covers walking/jogging etc. in your neighborhood or street/yard. Essential exercise only
They are giving fines to kiters/windsurfers/surfers/even swimmers along the northern and mid north coast,
not because of social distancing but for doing non essential activities (which as of today is illegal) that could see you need rescuing or medical attention. Which would see rescuers or medical staff that are needed else where having to focus on you instead. Police saying that these type of activities still being done is just being selfish and shameful to your community .
Wish it wasn't true, but it is and will be for awhile yet

Not surprised the law got tightened up today, but can you let us know where you heard that it's been forbidden to drive to somewhere to exercise? I can't find any mention of that, was it on a news program

leaving your home area and traveling around is what they want to stop. If you are driving to anywhere other than work, local shop for essentials, medical appointment, they will be giving fines to you.
He said they are now getting extremely tough on it, fines will be given, not warnings.

I wish not to tell you why I was with the police though

In particular, this Order directs that a person must not, without reasonable excuse, leave the person's place of residence. Examples of a reasonable excuse include leaving for reasons involving- (a) obtaining food or other goods and services, or (b) travelling for the purposes of work or education if the person cannot do it at home, or (c) exercise, or (d) medical or caring reasons.

There is no mention of "essential" in relation to exercise.
I think your local police officer is going beyond what the order mentions

Having read the whole order, the cop might think he has a right to prevent "gatherings" if several windsurfers or kitesurfers launch from the same beach, but that would have to be very contestable in court. A gathering is allowed at transport stations, and the launch site fills the same function.

How far do you need to travel thats essential for your exercise that you cant do at home like for work/education, when we are in lock down ?

In my case, about 30-35km to a beach, depending on wind direction. 90% of the time no one else is sailing.

Yeah that's definitely social distancing, agreed,
but what they are saying is that its a risky non essential activity (in their eyes)that may see you needing rescuing or medical assistance or searching for,that is needed else where and putting those people at risk as well.
I guess if not sure ring your local police station and ask if its ok to travel that distance and go windsurfing, cheaper for a phone call then a fine.

But when they are sending people home just for sitting on the beach by themselves when they are 100's of meters from the nearest person, I'd say they are getting serious about the message of stay home we are in lock down.

The UK is pretty much on full lockdown, essential food shopping, medical supplies or appointments and key workers. One daily outdoor activity providing in doesn't involve driving there. So windsurfing is off the menu in the UK!
so to take my mind off the economical impact on my business, I decided to refurbish my XL speedboard, a 2010 SB W58 speed special wood. So far, I've updated the foot pads, sanded and painted with two pack epoxy primer. I also filled and faired out the negative tail rocker early March. Managed to try it just before the lock down and it's defo faster, managed 40k peak, never done that in ten years of owning it.

This is latest I can find in Qld.
