Put a warning sticker on the turbine blades obviously. You would need one on each blade .

When I go white water rafting out West I have to read and sign a release form which tells me of the potential dangers, and wear a wetsuit, life jacket, and helmet, because it is a legal responsibility for the business owner!

If I was renting foiling equipment I would not allow anyone to use it without full protection for their body, including a wetsuit or something similar and a helmet. It is common knowledge by anyone in the business that the trailing edges of foils can cut through skin, but not obvious to someone trying it for the first time, especially because they often can NOT see the foil in the water.

Around here, Tampa Bay and Gulf-coast areas, there are several different fleash eating bacteria present in the waters that can infect people through open wounds, including fresh tattoos, and results in the loss of limbs every year through amputation since antibiotics are usually not effective, and deaths too of course.

So Britt put me at risk for the loss of a limb, so yeah, I will lay that on him.

God I miss Darwin. Some people are so stupid they need a warning label on everything. Enough with the nanny state already!

In my wife's cars user manual, it specifically says not to drink the washer fluid. Lucky I read it, cos sometimes I get thirsty.

Oh, so then you do not have health insurance, car accident insurance, or homeowners insurance segler?

If you get covid and go to the hospital you just pay out of pocket, if you get in a car accident you pay out of pocket to repair your car, pay for medical bills, and pay for the other victims if you were at fault, and if your home burns down you just rebuild it with you own funds and hard work! Amazing, I got insurance to cover all those potential issues!

Pretty certain there is implied consent when someone rents you a foil, kind of like when waiter gives you a steak knife. Just by looking at either its fairly obvious what not to do with it

Super grateful that Brit even rents out windfoil gear.

As usual Sandyballs is clueless. Just because you have insurance doesn't mean you try get into a car accident. Manage the risk by not driving like Florida Man, and have insurance for when bad stuff happens despite managing the risk.

Give me a break, if a business owner cares about their customers, and wants to prevent them from getting injured so they come back, they should warn them of potential hazards, that is for a responsible and professional business owner at least, IMO.

And again, try selling this simplistic view to all the rafting companies, save money do not offer wetsuits, or helmets! They would respond that wetsuits, lifejackets, and helmets are required by State Laws, but who needs to pay attention to those right

And just to be clear, while I mentioned a business owner in my original post, for me this is about any business, though some of you seem to be making it about a business, not sure why?

If you want to be treated like a child where someone else takes responsibility for your safety be prepared to surrender your freedom.

You are just so immature!, everyone including you were busy looking at your busted mast! If you were hurt, no one knew it. Alert, be careful aero can hurt himself breaking a mast! And now you are just lying! I never insulted you, I asked you if you had taped the mast joint, and never said anything about the shop owner because you never said where you got the mast!

You are aero from now on, no engineer would act so unprofessional.

And again, I think all business should care about their customers, especially when it cones to potentially hazardous sports and equipment. Why are some of you so focused on one business?, is this a reoccurring problem for that business and you all are going overboard to cover it up?

But the funny thing about aero breaking the mast on that day, was that I always thought he was pumping the sail so hard to get on plane because I was approaching him on a foil, not sure why he was so desperate to get up alongside me (maybe wanted to race me?), but he broke a mast trying!

LeeD is a heck of a sailor and I definitely got a few good tips.

Farking hell you guys really have over reacted to a simple suggestion that a fellow who rents out hazardous stuff should warn the renter. In fact he's crazy not to. He could find himself facing a civil suit if someone injures themself.

I think the issue is that Britt doesn't seem like the kind of dude who would put his customers at risk. And I doubt he doesn't have his legal arse covered by some kind of disclaimer on a wall somewhere or in writing.

When I gifted foiling lessons for someone he specifically covered it (safety) as part of a lesson. And she was able to get flying on a real crummy wind day after that lesson.

Having insurance is one way I actually manage my own risk. Come on, Sandman, don't be a finger pointer. Take care of risk yourself. I didn't sue SABfoil when I cut my shin last summer.

I have watched Britt instruct students. He talks safety all the time. So does his team. If you ever get a WIPA certification to instruct (as I have), you will be including a lot of safety in your instruction instructions.

Well, after reading more posts, it is likely Britt warned Sandman beforehand, right?

Hi Everyone,

In all fairness, there seems to be some questions or speculation on our windsurfing lesson business. Of course, we do have liability insurance which we have never had to use. We haven't had any injuries beyond a few mild cuts and bruises whether that is foiling windsurfing, wing or windsurfing in 20 years of teaching and in fairness those incidents are rare. I like to think that is because we cover how to be safe, teach in safe locations and often sail beside or in the case of beginning lessons, sit on the board with the students. We have wetsuits for chilly conditions but we don't suggest wetsuits when it is hot out, as wearing a wetsuit in FL hot conditions will cause other problems like heatstroke or heat exhaustion. Hmm shin guards with gorilla tape, that is a new one for me.

We have modern windsurfing gear, either current year or last year gear. We use foils that are easy and don't have sharp trailing edges or wing tips.

Honestly, i don't remember the day that Sandman came to demo or rent or take a lesson for foiling. But i am pretty sure it was pre covid. Apparently I failed in keeping him feeling safe even though he ended the demo safely. I would say that over my years of teaching windsurfing, (31 years), the last 20 fulltime for my own business, I have really tried hard to keep the lessons safe and fun so they think windsurfing is as fun as I do. I also train instructors as well to teach windsurfing. Safety and professionalism is something that I certainly make a point in conveying to new windsurfing instructors.

It is a crazy world that I and my wife are blessed to have great customers who support us in sharing our love of windsurfing and foiling.

Hmm you know I reviewed the video. I was trying out my 725 front and was not used to it. Think it was just after I tried one of my first jibes on it and was just trying to fly again. You weren't even foiling you were uphauling. But go ahead and keep making things up. Should I post the pics or is that enough for you to stop insulting me and badmouthing others here?
