I thought id build another board on the FKD principals.
I totally assed the design and it worked way better than i hoped.
So its going to be 20 cm shorter at 270 cm and narrower 6 cm at 78 cm.
No rear rocker for 130 cm and sharp square rails all the way.
A lighter layup.
Its still going to be a whopper but less whoppery and hopefully faster . I want to up the speed of the FKD , so ill call it ..... FKD up .

I wasnt going to post pics , but apparently i have to , its some kind of law . It will be condensed .

To save cost ( $200 ) , i glued together 50mm cool room sheets to make the blank . It seems harder than 13 kg foam but not as hard as 17. I didnt want to use glue because it leaves a hard layer that mucks with shaping , so i used expand foam in a can , thinking it will be a softer join to shape. DUMB MOVE ! Even with many bricks to hold things down it foamed the sheets apart , 1cm in places . It will be OK , just a lot more work and ill have to fill a few voids with expand foam . It wont be pretty . So as far as gluing a slab together ? , i probably should have used a PVA glue , or better still paid for a nice block of foam.

Will there be cut outs on the 2021 model ? I've always liked the idea on those boards that have the screw in plates so then you've got a convertible, would be a good way to see if they really make much difference or not

I think the F stands for factory now ...thinking of placing a order for a tandem .

Yeah about that.
I could , mark a line halfway along the board .
Dip it in the pool and push it down with the bathroom scales to the line . Take note of weight .
Flip board over and do the same to the line .
add two figures together minus twice the weight of board .
find out how much more dense salt water pool is
add that percentage to scale weight figure and it should be pretty close .
I most definitely forgot at least one factor ,
Its at least a three person job and beer.

just call it 160 litres

Ok, this is not my formula, it was presented on this forum by a poster whose name I shall not disclose.

for volume
take Length X width X thickness X .8 then again X .8 divided by 1000= liters.

this takes into account only the widest part and the thickest, where I guess the . 8 equation enters.

using this my Tabou Rocket 135liters.
250x72x 11.75x .8x .8 / 1000= 135.36

i use a math formula to determine toe in on installation, that's works peachy.

Cmon Maxi !! Weve been talking about this build for years..... Do the Math!!

Guys.....Download a copy of Shape3D lite. Block in your shape and you will know exacly what the volume is, its easy to use. Simple to adjust the board thicker, wider etc once you have it blocked in. For your build you can print out templates.

Have it ready in 2 weeks! You know why!

Two weeks? Thats plenty of time for an island living retiree... Dont worry about the Wife or neighbours or taking the dog for a walk.....

A month. Thats factory pace!

NEVER glue slabs of foam together with foam in a can . Spend the $ .
As you can see there are gaps that need to be filled .There are parts that i had to pick off because of gaps in the foam glue . I dont want any soft spots so i had to hack a bit . Otherwise it shaped ok .

First bogging with a lot of Qcell.
Ill have to be careful here , finish sanding with the hard bog and soft foam . Gently gently .
Did i mention , dont be cheap and glue foam together .

Issues aside it's powering along.

yep density difference is the enemy of good shaping. Have you got a spoke shave or very small plane? Set it very fine and run along the join when you get close. Abrasion will just make a lump at the higher density spot, no matter how careful you are.

I know I'm going to have to be delicate.
I don't have a mini plane , thinking of a mini sanding block or a fine flapper wheel .
The foam glue join is not too hard , but it is there .
I think I'll just go under In iffy areas . Glass the blank , then it will be easy to bog to get perfect before sandwich foam .
Then I can sleep at night and get on with the job , and it will be just a bad memory , reminding me never to do that again.
I estimate the great idea will cost me about 300 gm inc foam glue .

yes going under and bogging the glass is the 2nd best way out.

Any reason not to use pour foam in the bigger gaps next time? Lighter and cures faster. I haven't seen as many issues with having to sand it next to styro in my limited experience. I use masking tape and cling wrapped cardboard as dams/forms. Has much better consistency than can foam if you mix enough of it to get a good batch. My only bad batch was a small one for a small spot I wanted to fill.

Edit: Personally, I don't think the weight of the bog is a big deal. It is nice that the foam will set up quicker than the epoxy and much easier to shape.

I actually did on the big patch . But I used can foam and it wasn't perfect so went over with bog . I should have done what you said , ( I got pour foam ) . There were a lot of smaller areas so I just bogged them .

This works well! (presumably for conventially shaped boards)

I think .8 x .8 could be simply expressed as x .64

Boardcad lets you put photos in the outline, rocker and cross section frames. You drag the outline to match your photos and your area and volume are calculated as you go. It's easy to do, and free.

You just need to be a little careful taking your photos to align the camera properly. I used a tripod.

Shape3D Lite is nice but all the good stuff costs.
