That is Greg Glazier's board. At least you don't have to worry about nose damage.

Hahah epic rat board! No nose design is the most fun I've had on a windfoil. How did you like it? Credit to Tony Logosz of Slingshot who has been working on these designs for a while. Touchdowns aren't an issue and we don't touchdown that much anyway :p

It's fun small although lack of slogging ability probably means it's not ideal for the ocean.
I can grovel back with my Freestyle 87L if I come off the foil - just.

Yes, Tony and his team have been using no-nose boards for a while. Someday I will try one.

The extra volume in the nose with the built up ridges looks way easier to ride and should schlog better keeping the rig from sinking he nose. And those pads for extra protection for the rider and/or the mast

Did you install new front inserts there?
I reckon a dakine foam kick pad over the back bolts would make things comfy, although I think the stopper to keep you from stepping off the back

2009! That was peak Isonic as far as durability goes. Foil ready already. The lack of longitudinal inertia must make it tricky to hold altitude?

I chopped the board more than a year ago but only lately have been able to try it out.


A few random comments and answers to questions in the thread.

I cut out too much nose volume - it needs heaps of sail power to waterstart/get up on foil so once I'm flying I have to deal with greater than ideal sail area for the conditions - in the vid I'm using a 4.5m in 25 knot gusts.
The rough board bottom/exposed bolts no doubt adds to the drag.

Height control is not hard to maintain but the board is definitely more twitchy in the gybes - but super loose and crazy fun, worth trying if you have an old board lying around.

I don't think I'd get a new board built to a similar length even with more nose volume.
Lack of ability to slog back if the wind drops means I wouldn't feel confident using it often enough in the ocean to justify the cost - and I'm super happy with the W114 and Freestyle 87 that I have.
Also, in big seas a little nose to help bounce back up if I drop off foil down a wave and some swing-weight to steady things up are probably good things.

The bolts are temporarily drilled through the board and unsealed so will take on water - I'll epoxy them in. They're just galvanized so will rust at some point but will probably outlive the board. The bolt-heads work pretty well to stop my foot slipping.

A few dudes have asked about the GoPro mount - pretty straight forward. You notice the weight with a smaller sail and dealing with shorebreak is tricky

Thickness matters and I could not find any pictures showing a good side view.! Can measure the thickness at the "transom" (tail)? Also set the board on something flat and measure how far the tip of the nose is lifted above the flat of the bottom. Then make a rough measure of where along the length that the rocker goes flat. Then I will have enough info to make a quick model and calc volume.

Lift off takes some work, but when in flight it just wants to stay there...

Paulownia 6mm hollow core. Hardwood i believe, density just above Balsa. Laser cut ribs and stringers glued together to create a formed profile. 2 full length stringers foam filled for box and mast track. Foot strap locations also foam filled. Rails are glued and hand planed to allow the top and bottom skins to be fixed, again glue (poly), and shaped into rails.
Glass and epoxy to wrap the board.
'Tis a labor of love....
